1 Conference programme Results-based Agri-environment Schemes: payments for biodiversity achievements in agriculture Brussels, September 2014 #rbaps

2 Background This conference forms part of the study, Biodiversity protection through results-based remuneration of ecological achievement, commissioned by the European Commission, DG Environment in the context of a Pilot Project initiated by the European Parliament. The aim of the study is to consider the pros and cons of existing schemes that are focussed on achieving results, and to provide practical advice on how to develop such schemes in the future to improve outcomes for farmland biodiversity. It is being carried out by the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP), with experts from the Institute for Agro-ecology and Biodiversity (IFAB), Applications des Sciences de l'action (AScA), the Istituto Nazionale di Economia Agraria (INEA), the University of Helsinki, the European Forum on Nature Conservation and Pastoralism (EFNCP), the Association Européenne pour l'information sur le Développement Local (AEIDL), and individual experts, Jaroslav Pražan, Natacha Yellachich and Tim Hudson. This conference aims to share understanding and knowledge of results-based payment schemes across EU Member States and EFTA countries. Participants are invited to discuss the value of resultsbased payment schemes for the delivery of biodiversity and wider environmental and agronomic benefits, and to contribute towards the identification of key issues for successful scheme design and implementation. The organisers would like to thank the Committee of the Regions for making available the venue for this conference.
