PATIL KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, HULKOTI GADAG DISTRICT, KARNATAKA STATE Monthly e-news Letter Month: February, 2019 Volume: 2 Issue: 2 INAGURATION OF KISAN SAMMAN NIDHI PROGRAMME ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hulkoti has live facilitated the live telecast of launching of Kisan Samman Nidhi by Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on The programme was inaugurated at KVK by Shri Shivakumar Udasi, Honourable Member of Parliament, Haveri. He spoke on Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi, a Government of India programme in giving livelihood support to the small and marginal farm families. Further, he said that this is one of the historic programme benefiting 12 crores of farmers. Under this programme, vulnerable land holding farm families having cultivable land upto 2 hectares will be provided direct income support at the rate of Rs.6000/- per year to ensure their investment and other farm needs. This income support will be transferred directly into the individual bank account of beneficiary farmers in 3 equal instalments of Rs.2000 each. He said that, on an average in Gadag district 1.65 lakh farmers will be benefited and first instalment has been transferred today to 7042 farmers of Gadag district. For the remaining farmers, the first instalment will be paid before 31 st March, On this occasion, Smt. Annapurna Ashok Shantageri, President, Gram Panchayat, Hulkoti, Shri C.B.Balaraddi, Joint Director, KSDA, Gadag, ATMA Officials and other Line Department Officials, Dr.L.G.Hiregoudar, Senior Scientist & Head of ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hulkoti were present. More than 300 farmers & farm women & Extension Functionaries participated in the programme. CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL PRODUCTION AND PRODUCTIVITY WEEK (12-18 th, February, 2019) The National Production & Productivity week was inaugurated at ICAR-K.H. Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hulkoti on The programme was inaugurated by Shri Sureshgouda Patil, Specialist in Organic and Natural Farming. He spoke on importance of Protection and Conservation of soil and water in command area. Further, he said that the use of Organic inputs and vermicompost will help farmers to reduce the cost of cultivation. More than 75 farmers participated in the programme.

2 On , in collaboration with ATMA Project, KSDA Bailhongala training was organised on Rabi crops to increase the production & productivity. In addition, training on Organic farming, cultivation and importance of Millets and its value addition, Scientific Dairy Farming and exposure visit to demonstration units, Cashew & Mango orchards were organised. More than 55 farmers, farm women and 3 Extension Functionaries participated in the programme. Participatory Rural appraisal and group discussion with farmers was organised on at Kalakeri village of Naragund block. The main objective is to study the farming situation, production & productivity of importance crops and the constraints faced by farmers. More than 50 farmers participated in the programme. Under National Food Security Mission-Pulses the demonstrations on Bengalgram have been taken up in 125 farmers fields at Radder Naganur village of Naragund block. Under this programme, the field day was organised on at Shri Basanagouda Karibasanagoudar s field. The various technologies that are demonstrated in increasing the production of Bengalgram was briefed by Shri V.D.Vaikunthe, SMS(Agronomy), ICAR-KVK, Hulkoti. The various Plant Protection measures like use of Pheromone traps, mixing of Sorghum seeds while sowing Bengalgram, spreading puffed rice in fields to attract the birds etc., were briefed by Shri S.K.Mudlapur, SMS (Plant Protection). About 45 farmers and extension functionaries participated in the programme. KVK organised training programme to Extension Functionaries on Land Resource Inventory under Sujala Watershed-III on in collaboration with KSDA. The programme was inaugurated by Dr.P.L.Patil, Professor & Head, Department of Soil Science, UAS, Dharwad and he released LRI Cards of Gadag district. Shri C.B.Balaraddi, Joint Director of Agriculture and Shri Sahadev Yaragappa, Deputy Director of Agriculture briefed about the importance of LRI Cards. Shri N.H.Bhandi, SMS(Soil Science) was also present on this occasion. About 43 Extension Functionaries participated in the programme.

3 On , 23 High School Students and 3 Staffs of Government High School, Belhoda, Gadag Taluk visited KVK. The information on Organic Farming, Organic Inputs production and exposure visit for vermicompost unit were provided. On , Shri S.H.Adapur, SMS (Ag.Extension) had an interaction session with Degree Students of K.H.Patil First Grade Degree College, Hulkoti on Strategies for enhancing the productivity of crops and income of farming community. Students were briefed about the importance of Celebration of Productivity Week. More than 70 Students participated in the programme. FIELD DAY ON SOIL RECLAMATION ICAR-K.H. Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised Field Day on Soil Reclamation in problematic soil on at Bevinakatti village of Gajendragad block. The demonstration was implemented in five farmers fields with various technologies like sowing of Sunhemp 20 Kgs/acre & mixing it with soil during flowering stage, mixing of 10 Qtls of Gypsum to soil, 5 Kgs of Rhizobim and 5 Kgs of Compost Culture. The participating farmers expressed that, due to reclamation of soil with organic inputs and culture, the soil has become soft and salinity is reduced. Hence, they requested other farmers to adopt the technologies. More than 45 farmers participated in the field day. FIELD DAY ON SAFFLOWER CROP ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hulkoti in collaboration with ICAR-Indian Institute of Oilseed Research, Hyderabad conducted field day on at Asuti village of Ron taluk. The field day was organized in Shri Shivappa Mamatageri s field. Shri Srinivas N., President, Janahita NGO, Naragund taluk spoke on the importance of Post Harvest Technologies, Value addition and marketing in Safflower crop. Shri V.D.Vaikunthe, SMS (Agronomy) briefed about Safflower cultivation practices and Shri S.K.Mudlapur, SMS (Plant Protection) spoke about the Plant Protection measures followed in FLDs.

4 The farmers who under took demonstrations mainly Shri Basavanteppa Mamatageri and Shri Sanganagouda K. Patil shared their experiences in Safflower cultivation. More than 60 farmers participated in the field day. FIELD DAY ON SUMMER GROUNDNUT CROP For the year , Cluster FLDs under National Mission on Oilseeds and Oil Palm, the Field Day on Summer Groundnut crop was conducted on at Rajur village of Gajendragad taluk. The field day was organized in Shri Mantesh Sharanappa Gulaguli s field. The farmer leader Shri Basappa Baramappa Billin briefed about the importance of adoption of new technologies for higher returns in Groundnut crop. Shri V.D.Vaikunthe, SMS (Agronomy) briefed about the improved production technologies in Groundnut crop. The pest and diseases and their management was dealt by Shri S.K.Mudlapur, SMS (Plant Protection) of KVK, Hulkoti. More than 65 farmers and farm women attended the field day PRA AND GROUP DISCUSSION The conductance of PRA and Group discussion with farmers were organised on 1 st, 4 th & 5 th of February, 2019 at Singatarayanakeri (Mundaragi taluk), Shirol (Gadag taluk) & Chikkasavanur (Shirahatti taluk) villages. The information on village resources, crops grown, problems with respect to production and productivity, constraints, problems of women farmers, various enterprises were collected and the data was utilized for preparation of KVK s Action Plan for the year AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS OF FARMERS The Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development Board, Cochin felicitated the Cashew Growers of Hulkoti village of Gadag district who have been promoted by ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hulkoti namely Shri Siddappa Karikatti and Shri Subhash Adappagoudar on the eve of National Conference on Cashewnut. The Conference was organised at Vijayawada during rd February, 2019.

Hiregoudar, I/C SMS (Horticulture) attended training on Drought Proofing Action Plan for Gadag District at UAS, Dharwad 19 th to 20 th February, 2019: Programme Coordinator, All SMS, Programme Assistants of KVK attended Pre-Action Plan Meeting for the year at UAS, Dharwad. 22 nd to 23 rd February, 2019: Shri S.H.Adapur, SMS(Ag.Extension) attended National Conference on Cashew at Vijayawada organized by Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development Board, Cochin.
