1 27 th Session of the Asia and Pacific Plant Protection Commission i Progress Report of the IPM Standing Committee Makati City, Philippines, August 2011

2 Crop production intensification strategies of national food security agenda have resulted in higher incidences of plant pests and diseases in among APPPC member countries. High cropping intensities, indiscriminate g pp g, pesticide usage, fertilizer overuse have caused severe BPH outbreaks in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and China.

3 Pest and disease problems have been exacerbated by the entry of invasive plant pests and diseases resulting from food & plant trade as well as by emerging pests and diseases resulting from climate change. Corn Planthopper; Coconut Hispine Beetle; pp ; p ; Golden Apple Snails; Rodents; Cassava Pink Mealybug; Phytoplasma Diseases in Sugarcane

4 On-going IPM Programs and Activities in Asia and Pacific Development of ecological-based, environmentalfriendly technologies and mechanisms for the prevention and control of plant pests and diseases; Quality farmer education to ensure the adoption of preventive and control technologies & mechanisms.
