PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS (PPP) Legislation EU DIRECTIVE 2009/128/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 21 October 2009 establishing a framework for Community action to achieve the sustainable use of pesticides REGULATION (EC) No 1107/2009 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 21 October 2009 concerning the placing of plant protection products on the market COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) No 547/2011 of 8 June 2011 implementing Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards labelling requirements for plant protection products PESTICIDS EU- MRLs Regulation (EC) No 396/ opa.eu/food /plant/pestici des/eupesticidesdatabase/pu blic/?event= homepage&l anguage=en

PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS (PPP) GG standard requirements PPP Storage The plant protection product store must comply with basic rules to ensure safe storage and use. 1. With facilities for measuring and mixing, e.g. scale and table 2. PPPs must be in their original containers 3. Store must be well lit, (natural and/or artificial light), well ventilated, seperated from other products( not for use GG crops) 4. Shelving must be made of non-absorbent materials CB It must be able to retain liquids, e.g. bunding at the door The plant protection product storage facilities have retaining tanks or products are bunded according to 110% of the volume of the largest container of stored liquid, to ensure that there cannot be any leakage, seepage or contamination to the exterior of the facility. 4

PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS (PPP) GG standard requirements PPP Storage The plant protection product store must comply with basic rules to ensure safe storage and use. 6. There must be elements in place to deal with spillage, e.g. bucket with sand, with scoop The plant protection product storage facilities and all designated fixed filling/mixing areas are equipped with a container CB 7.7 of absorbent inert material such as sand, floor brush and dustpan and plastic bags that must be in a fixed location to be used exclusively in case of spillage of plant protection products 7. PPPs must be stored according to regulations (e.g. South Africa legislation dictates that red labeled products must be kept separate from other crop protection products) 5

PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS (PPP) GG standard requirements PPP storage 1. The keys and access to the plant protection product storage facility limited to workers with formal training in the handling of plant protection products. 2. All the plant protection products that are liquid formulations are stored on shelving that is never above those products that are powder or granular formulations. 3. An up-to-date plant protection product stock inventory or calculation of stock with incoming PPPs and records of use available. 4. All plant protection product/chemical storage facilities and all filling/mixing areas present on the farm have eye washing amenities, a source of clean water at a distance no farther than 10 meters, and a first aid kit containing the relevant aid material (e.g. a pesticide first aid kit might need aid material for corrosive chemicals or alkaline liquid in case of swallowing, and might not need bandages and splints), all of which are clearly and permanently marked via signage. 6

PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS (PPP) GG standard requirements Storage 7

PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS (PPP) GG standard requirements Plant protection product application CB 7.4 Compliance with pre- harvest intervals CB 7.5 Disposal of surplus application mix CB 7.8 Plant protection product handling 1. The producers give all workers who come into contact with plant protection products the option of being voluntarily submitted to health checks annually; CB mixing plant protection products procedures must be followed as stated on the label; safe transportation of crop protection products must be ensured; 3. re-entry times on the site where applications have taken place must be observed. CB 8 Plant protection product equipment is stored in such a way as to prevent product contamination, and it is calibrated and maintained regularly 8

PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS (PPP) GG standard requirements Plant protection product application Important to know: PPP registration scheme in country, Correct sampling procedures, - accredited laboratory screening method with all active ingredient used in crop (usually 200 ~600, and should be included all used substances) Using of active substance - for countries where harvested product is intended to be traded, 9

PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS (PPP) GG standard requirements Plant protection product application Important to know: The laboratory used for residue testing is accredited by a competent national authority to ISO or equivalent standard. Record keeping of PPP use (date, crop, area and field name, PPP trade name and active substance, dosage, used amount, operator, method and equipment, approvement of use, weather conditions, PHI, Reason Take in account for record keeping the quality and handling of Plant Propogation Material 10

PLANT PROPAGATION MATERIAL BEST PRACTICES FOR NURSERIES (PPM) Implementation for PPM Certification includes compliance with modules All Farm Base (AF), Crops Base (CB) and Plant Propagation Material (PPM) Standard covers Site and Soil Management, Substrates, Propagation, Propagation Facilities, Workers Health, Safety and Welfare as well as Trading Terms and Conditions

PLANT PROPAGATION MATERIAL BEST PRACTICES FOR NURSERIES (PPM) BENEFITS FOR PRODUCERS ADVANTAGES FOR SEED COMPANIES Easier compliance Responsible Sourcing Improved traceability Improved management system at farm level Improved traceability at farm level International recognition

PLANT PROPAGATION MATERIAL BEST PRACTICES FOR NURSERIES (PPM) 1 PPM Quality declaration, Plant pasport, Compliance with variety registration laws 2 Open fields Sowing Planting Fertigation Irigation PPP use Monitoring Quality check Quality declaration 3 Greenhouse Substrate use and destruction, Sowing Planting Fertigation Irigation PPP use Monitoring Quality check Quality declaration

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM) GG standard requirements Prevention Strategy based on ecosystems, which focuses on the long-term prevention of pests or the damage caused by them through a combination of techniques, such as biological control, habitat manipulation, change in cultural practices and use of resistant varieties. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) involves the careful consideration of all available pest control techniques and the subsequent integration of appropriate measures that discourage the development of pest populations keeps plant protection products and other interventions to levels that are economically justified and reduce or minimize risks to human health and the environment.. 14

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM) GG standard requirements Prevention. An IPM Toolbox (Annex CB 2) has been developed to provide alternative actions for the application of IPM techniques in the commercial production of agricultural and horticultural crops. Given the natural variation on pest development for the different crops and areas, any IPM system shall be implemented in the context of local physical (climatic, topographical etc.), biological (pest complex, natural enemy complex, etc.), and economical conditions. 15

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM) GG standard requirements Observation and monitoring 1. Determine when and to what extent pests and their natural enemies are present, and using this information to plan what pest management techniques are required. 2. Trapping (pests), scouting, monitoring weather conditions to prevent diseases, etc. Example: Observation of pests and beneficial insects; use of indicator plants; alert systems, e.g. prediction models, weather forecasts. 16

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM) GG standard requirements Intervention Treating hot spots, borders, building up beneficial populations/habitats, spray, etc. Examples of intervention: bait points; pheromone traps; biological control; application of crop protection products; anti-resistance management plan. In situations where a pest attack will adversely affect the economic value of a crop, it may be necessary to intervene using specific pest control methods, including plant protection products (PPP). The correct use, handling and storage of plant protection products are essential. 1. CB 6.4 Intervention 2. CB 6.5 Evidence that anti-resistance recommendations are followed 3. CB 7.1 Choice of plant protection products from a current list of appropriate and authorized products for the target crop and pest 4. CB 7.2 Advice on quantity and type of plant protection products by a qualified person 17

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM) GLOBALG.A.P. standard requirements Therefore.. 1. Add value to your products 2. Access to new local and global customers 3. Reduce your exposure to food safety and product safety reputational risks. 4. Improve the efficiency of your farm processes and management. 5. Trainings and new experience about quality management system in Agriculture 6. Increasing of knowledge used in farming with high level consultants 7. Access to new markets and diversification of exports directions 8. Higher reputation between exporters 9. Increasing benefits in competitiveness 18

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM) GG standard requirements Our main values environment -land/soil, water, air, food, living place, society /people. we must protect it and know how to do it! Our basic values knowledge Our farming added value sustainability. 19
