Clubs or individuals may wish to organize a 4-H promotional campaign. Some ideas include: a library or store window display about 4-H; a 4-H poster contest; a radio interview; school programs to tell about 4-H and how students can join; articles for the newspaper; ask a friend to a 4-H meeting or event...or anything else that positively promotes 4-H! Celebration ideas include: talk to a school class abut 4-H; put up a poster or display telling about 4-H and how to join; wear 4-H t-shirts, or emblems one day to school! 4-H Club of the Month 2018 Challenge: Code Your World This year, Nebraska 4-H will celebrate NYSD with a statewide virtual event on Tuesday, October 16. Local youth programs are welcome to register as a participant in Nebraska 4-H's NYSD event. Other local events will be happening throughout the month. This year's challenge, sponsored by 4-H and Google, is Code Your World which invites kids to get involved in computer science through hands-on doing. Code Your World is a four-part computer science (CS) challenge that teaches youth to apply CS to the world around them through hands-on activities. Congratulation!! The Nebraska 4-H Foundation and Nebraska 4- H Ambassadors have joined together to start a program which recognizes 4-H clubs throughout the state of Nebraska. Any 4-H club may nominate themselves to be the Club of the Month. Nominations are due the second Friday of the month before the club can be chosen Club of the Month. The club who is chosen to be Club of the Month will receive a $50 cash card from the Nebraska 4-H Foundation and their story will be showcased on the Nebraska 4-H Foundation s Facebook, Twitter, and website along with the State 4-H website and Facebook and in their local newspaper. At the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island that ran from August 25 to September 4 there were a number of Dixon County 4-Hers who had exhibits there and also showed livestock at the fair. NEBRASKA 4-H FED STEER CHALLENGE This is a new project for 4-H members 14 years of age and older (as of 12/31/2018). The goal is for youth to increase their knowledge of the beef industry through a more realistic production and carcass-based project. Participants will participate in monthly educational programs, keep detailed records, and select and purchase a calf from pre-selected commercial feeder calves in January. Calves will be exhibited in a special class at the Nebraska State Fair. Online applications for the project are due October 15. More information and application form is available at STATE 4-H CAMP TRAIL RIDE Support the Nebraska State 4-H Camp in Halsey, while you enjoy a guided trail ride October 5-7 in Nebraska National Forest near Halsey. Enjoy the beautiful scenery while riding trails, delicious meals, family activities, and great entertainment. All proceeds will support the Nebraska State 4-H Camp. Registration fee is $65 and due September 28. Registration fee is $75 if postmarked after that date. For more information, visit the website at Companion Animals The 4-H Online Cat Club meets the second Thursday of every month. The next meeting is October 11, 6:00 p.m. Any 4-H member may join the meetings from home to watch and participate in the session. Due October 17 Nebraska 4-H Opportunity for Farm Credit Services of America Grants Here is an excellent grant opportunity from one of our partners! The application process is quick and simple. The current deadline for the $2,000 grants is September 30, Through our Working Here Fund, nonprofit organizations in Nebraska can apply online for community involvement grants. We award grants for options of up to $2,000 each for projects and organizations that make a positive, long-term impact in the areas of: Agriculture Education Young and Beginning Producers Hunger and Nutrition
