1 8 Farmers Markets Price Reports Plymouth Farmers Market Orlando Rodriguez and Ariana Torres This publication provides the results of a project conducted by the Horticulture Business Extension Program at Purdue University. The article illustrates the lowest and highest prices of specialty crops sold in the Plymouth Farmers Market in 8. Specialty crops include vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, floriculture, and nursery crops. Thus, this report includes a range of produce sold in wide variety of units such as pint, pound, quart, bunch, bulb, crate, peck, etc. Due to little information on the prices and sales of local markets in Indiana, growers selling at farmers markets usually have to rely on records from previous years or walk down the market aisles to define prices, assess potential profitability, and determine market feasibility. This report provides farmers, buyers, and communities with the prices of a wide diversity of fruits and vegetables that highlight the economy and gastronomy of Indiana. Our project can help farmers by providing pricing benchmarks and variations across markets and time. The complete report of weekly prices can be found at Data collection We are collaborating with farmers market managers and county extension educators to collect and publish weekly prices of fruits and vegetables sold through Indiana farmers markets. The project received funding from Purdue AgSEED. Benefits of this report Determine the market window of produce at available prices Assess the economic feasibility of season extension technologies and new crops Estimate potential farm profitability by using enterprise budgets Understand competition by looking at price variations Consider costs and benefits of different crops Compare prices of produce across markets, units, and seasons
