1 SEMINAR AND ENDOWMENT A seminar cum workshop on Mango cultivation, rejuvenation and Beekpeeing a. Seminars A seminar cum workshop on Mango cultivation, rejuvenation and Beekpeeing was organised in the Mango orchard of Borappa, Padarahalli village Ramanagaram district on with the collaboration of IAT Bangalore, Department of Horticulture, GoK and Zilla Panchayat, Ramanagaram district. Shri.K.Raju, M.L.A, Ramanagaram taluk inaugurated the programme. He requested the Scientists to conduct research on Mango cultivation, and transfer of technology to the farmers especially on the production of quality fruits as well as exporting them to foreign countries to get higher prices. Dr.Murali Mohan, SMS(PP), KVK, in Magadi Taluk explained about Mango cultivation and Mango diseases and their effective management for getting higher yields. Sl.No. Seminar & Workshop By Dr.D.Rajagopal, Vice 1. President, IAT Bangalore and Senior Entomologist from UAS, Bangalore Message Explained about various pests of Mango, their integrated management through cultural, mechanical and chemical control methods. He also explained about Beekeeping by demonstrating Bee keeping tools such as Beehive, hiving cage, honey extractor and appealed to the farmers to culture the honey bee colonies for cross pollination in Mango orchards. 2. Dr.B.Krishna, Deputy Director of Horticulture, Ramanagaram district Sri.Channabasavaiah, M.C. member, IAT explained about Organic Farming and requested the farmers to practice Organic Farming for the production of quality products. Explained the objectives of organizing the programmes as well as different subsidies in the Horticulture Department and requested the farmers to make use of the facilities. Further he also demonstrated loosening of soil around Mango trees as well as banding with Pesticide application to the basal portion of the trunk to prevent the migration of pests, as well as lurking in the cracks and crevices of the stem for better production in Mango. An exhibition on Bee keeping tools, Agricultural implements and plant protection equipments of different companies was also organised for the benefit of farmers. An interaction session between scientists and farmers was also held in the Mango orchard

Shri.Chandru, President, Agriculture and Industries sub committee, ZP, Ramanagaram, Sri.Govinda Reddy, M.C.member, IAT participated in the programme. Dr.B.Krishna, DDH welcomed the farmers, Dr.Rudresh, Sr.ADH proposed the vote of thanks as well as compeered the programme. About 150 farmers participated in the programme. A Seminar cum Workshop on Adopting Modern Technology in Potato cultivation was organisedon at Rural Self Employment Training Institute, Canara Bank, Chadalapura gate, Chikkaballapur with the collaboration of IAT Bangalore, Department of Horticulture, GoK and Zilla Panchayat, Chikkaballapura. Sl.No. Seminar & workshop By Message 1. Dr.S.Venkataramu, Joint Director of Agriculture, Chikkaballapur district 2. Dr.Amara Nanjundeswara, Asst. Professor of Horticulture, College of Horticulture, Kolar Appealed to the farmers to adopt the modern technologies for increasing yields in Potato. Dr.Indiresh, Professor of Horticulture, PG College of Horticulture, UHS, GKVK explained the latest technology in Potato cultivation as well as getting the quality seeds from North India for planting during the winter season. Dr.D.Rajagopal, Vice President, IAT Bangalore and Senior Entomologist explained about different Insects pests of Potato and their management, and Post Harvest Technology to be followed in Potato storage. He also briefed about IAT activities and objectives of conducting such seminars for the benefit of farmers. Explained about various diseases caused by fungi, bacteria and virus. Further he also explained about management of diseases by using effective fungicides. 3. Shri. M.Devarajappa, Deputy Director of Horticulture, Chikkaballapura Explained about various subsidies of Horticulture department and requested the farmers to make use of these facilities. An exhibition with charts depicting the Potato cultivation technology was also arranged. M.Bhaskar Chakravarthy, Chief Manager, Canara Bank and S.Sundaresha, Manager, District Lead Bank, Chikkaballapur participated and graced occasion as Chief guests. Shri.Sreenivas, ADH, Bagepalli taluk proposed vote of thanks as well as compeered the entire programme. About 150 farmers participated in both inaugural and also technical sessions of the programme.

Sri.Raghu kumar, ZP member, Bevoor of Channapatna taluk He stressed on various issues related to Mango cultivation in a scientific way as well as producing quality fruits which gives higher prices to farmers. 2. Dr.B.G.Hanumantharaya, Subject Matter Specialist in Horticulture, KVK, Ramanagaram Explained about ango cultivation as well as rejuvenation for getting higher yields and better quality fruits Dr.D.Rajagopal, Vice President, IAT Bangalore and Senior Entomologist Sri.Channabasavaiah, M.C. member, IAT Bangalore Explained about the Integrated Plant Protection methods for the control of pests and diseases to get better quality fruits. Further he also explained about Beekeeping methods and appealed to farmers to practice Beekeeping which gives additional income to farmers by selling honey and yields will be increased by cross pollination in mango orchard. Explained about Organic Farming and requested the farmers to practice Organic Farming which yields better quality fruits. 5. Sri.Gunavantha, Senior ADH, Channapatna Demonstrated the pesticide banding to the base of the trunk as well as excavation of soil around the base which helps in control of pests as well as conserve moisture and nutrients in mango orchards. Sri.Siddarju, Chairman, M.B.Halli, Gramapanchayat presided over the programme. An interaction session of farmers with scientists was also held. Smt.Jayamma, President, Taluk Panchayat, Channapatna, Smt.Savitha Channegowda, Vice President, Taluk Panchayat, Sri.Nagaraju, Project Director, ATMA and Sri.H.V.Janardana, Deputy Project Director, ATMA, Ramanagaram, District participated as Chief guests in the programme.

Seminar on Mango Cultivation A day long seminar on Mango cultivation was organised on in the Seminar hall of College of Horticulture, Kolar in collaboration with IAT Bangalore, University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot and Department of Horticulture, GoK. Dr.R.D.Rawal, Principal Scientist(Rtd.), IIHR, Hesaraghatta, Bangalore He explained various projects that are implemented by department of Horticulture in Kolar district and appreciated the efforts of Kolar farmers in cultivating different fruits crops as well as vegetables in the district. He appealed to the farmers to make use of the subsidies provided by Horticulture department, National Horticulture Board and National Horticulture Mission of Government of India. Delivered lecture on Pests of Mango and Integrated Pest Management and appealed to the farmers to follow the measures in order to get higher yields as well as better quality fruits. He appreciated the efforts and hard working nature of Kolar farmers in cultivating different fruits, vegetables, sericulture as well as adopting dairying in a bigway in the district. Further he also explained about the activities of IAT with different programmes being implemented in transfer of technology through its regional chapters in 10 districts for the benefit of farmers and appealed to technocrats to start Regional Chapter at Kolar. Delivered a lecture on different diseases of Mango, their integrated control measures and explained about various precautionary measures to be taken by timely spraying with effective concentration of chemicals at various stages of Mango for protecting crop for getting higher yields as well as quality fruits. 4. Dr.V.Nachegowda, Dean, College of Horticulture, Kolar Presided over the programme. He appreciated the good response with more number of farmers actively participating from different taluks and appealed to the farmers to adopt latest technologies for getting higher yields as well as quality fruits. He also stressed to use more number of hybrid varieties and adopt package practices to get higher production in Horticultural crops.
5 P.Hanumantha Reddy, progressive farmer and member, Extension Advisory Council, UHS, Bagalkot and Sri.C.H.Gowda, M.C member, IAT Bangalore participated in the programme as chief guests. Sri.Kadire Gowda, Deputy Director of Horticulture, Kolar welcomed the farmers and Dr.B.Anjaneya Reddy, Asst. Professor, Plant Pathology, College of Horticulture proposed the vote of thanks. Dr.Shivanna, Associate Professor of Soil Science, College of Horticulture, Kolar compeered the entire programme. About 120 farmers participated in the day long technical session of the programme. Workshop on Minor Millets A one day workshop on Minor Millets for drought situations was organized on 9 th December 2012 at Dr.H.Narasimhaiah Conference Hall, National College premises, Gauribidanur in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, GoK, IAT, Bangalore and Minor millets Farmers group of Gauribidanur under ATMA project of Chikkaballapur district under the Chairmanship of Sri.N.H.Shivashankara Reddy, Hon ble MLA, Gauribidanur. Shri.N.H.Shivashankara Reddy, MLA inaugurated the day long workshop and addressed the farmers to change their minds to switch over to the Organic Farming from the chemical farming. He advised the farmers to grow minor millets such as ragi, bajra, pearl millet, foxtail millet etc. and these are suitable to grow under traditional farming systems. Shri.K.Narayanaswamy, Joint Director (Retd.), Education Department,GoK who welcomed the gathering Explained the objectives of conducting the Farmers workshop to discuss on various issues on the negligence of growing minor millets, scarcity of the food grains, food security during the drought etc. Dr.D.Rajagopal, Vice President, IAT Bangalore introduced the scientists for the technical session and also stressed on different local varieties of minor millets for easy cultivation and simple control measures against pests and diseases. He also advised all the farmers to practice the technology in their fields to reap the benefits of the workshop. Dr.Jayarame Gowda and Shri.E.G.Ashok, Senior Scientists, AICRP on minor millets from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore delivered the lectures on various methods of cultivation with current use varieties, their duration, soil fertility status etc. An interaction session of farmers with scientists was also organized and many doubts of the farmers were cleared by scientists. An exhibition on all minor millets was also organized for the benefit of farmers. Two Kannada bulletins viz ; (1)Minor millets (2) Farmers suicides written by K.Narayana swamy were released during the inaugural session. Sri.C.R.Narasimhamurthy, President, ZP, Chikkaballapura, Sri.N.Niranjan, President, TP, Gowribidanur,Shri.Jayaram Gupta, ATMA Coordinator, Chikkaballapura district and many
6 other local leaders were also participated in the programme. Kumari. Anuroopa, Asst. Director of Agriculture, Gauribidanur Taluk proposed the vote of thanks. About 300 farmers participated in a day long workshop.
