2 President Obama s Celebration of the Land-Grant University System July 2, 2012 Generations of Americans have led richer, more productive lives as beneficiaries of the land-grant university system. As we commemorate this historic anniversary, let us reaffirm our support for these institutions of higher learning that help America fulfill its great promise as a Nation.
3 Secretary Vilsack s Comprehensive Agenda for USDA Mission: Provide leadership on food, agriculture, natural resources, rural development, nutrition, & related issues based on sound public policy, the best available science, & efficient management.
4 USDA Strategic Goals Assist rural communities to create prosperity so they are selfsustaining, repopulating, & economically thriving. 2. Ensure our National Forests and private working lands are conserved, restored, & made more resilient to climate change, while enhancing our water resources. 3. Help America promote agriculture production & biotechnology exports as America works to increase food security. 4. Ensure that all of America s children have access to safe, nutritious, balanced meals.
