Status: Under Implementation since Dec 2015 Direct Beneficiaries reached Just became effective (Target: 160,000 ha by Jan 2021) Additional lands benefiting from SLM management practices Just became effective (Target: 3,000 ha by Jan 2021)

15 NIGER The Third Community Action Program Support Project US$ M total GEF: US$ 4.52 M IDA: US$ 40 M PDO - To strengthen the Recipient s local development planning and implementation capacities, including the capacity to respond promptly and effectively to an eligible crisis or emergency, and to improve the access of the targeted population to socio-economic services GEO - To promote sustainable land and natural resources management and productive investments at the commune level in selected areas of Niger Status (US$ M disbursed) Under implementation since September 2013 Beneficiaries reached (Jan 2016): Achieved: 986,350 (Target: 3,000,000 by Dec 2017) Additional lands benefiting from SLM management practices Achieved: 17,269 ha (Target: 60,000 ha by Dec 2017)

21 - United Nations Sahel Initiative The WB-UN Sahel Initiative renews focus on boosting the region s economic growth, shared prosperity and reducing poverty by transforming livelihoods and landscapes in Sahel. SAWAP is a strategic part. President Jim Yong Kim with African Union Commission Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and President of Niger Issoufou Mahamadou in Niamey, Niger, during their Sahel trip in 2013.
