2 Professional Experience July till date Jan June 2012 Senior Scientist -Plant Physiology, NIAM, Baramati, Pune, INDIA Working on Plant Abiotic Stress Physiology- Heat and drought tolerance in Wheat, Sweet Sorghum and Chickpea Plant Bio-regulators minimizing crop yield losses under drought and heat stress. Visiting Scientist (Crop Physiology) Research Program Grain Legumes, ICRISAT, India. Involved in the following projects Improving tropical legume productivity for marginal environment in Asia and Africa - Generation of definitive phenotypic database for use in crop improvement program-molecular breeding. Field evaluation of reference sets, RIL population of groundnut for drought tolerance Lysimstric assessment of water uptake, TE and yield components and their association in SAT-crops under drought conditions. Evaluation intensity and influence of water deficit on groundnut yield and yield components. Test the role of functional & structural root traits and ABA content in cultivars and breeding lines of groundnut known to differ for drought tolerance, including aspects of canopy temperature. Effect of different VPD conditions on plants transpiration under progressive soil drying. Assessment of chickpea lines in a natural saline profile. Assessment of groundnut N 2 fixation under drought. Actively associated in writing project proposals, reports and research articles Supervision of students and technicians and perform other related jobs from time to time Jan 2005-Dec 2007 Research Associate ICAR Network Project on Climate Change (NPCC) - Impact, Adaptations and vulnerability of Indian agriculture to climate change- Effect of elevated CO 2 on crop growth. Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), Hyderabad, India Involved in the following projects Established (along with the peer group) fully automated open-top chambers to understand the response of dryland crops to elevated CO 2 interaction with moisture stress. 2
3 Evaluated growth and physiological response of sorghum and blackgram to elevated CO 2. Assed the effect of elevated atmospheric CO 2 concentration on growth and yield of blackgram and castor bean. Measured the physiological (measured parameters- net photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, transpiration, WUE, RWC and water potential) and biochemical (total sugars, starch content. proline, SuSP enzyme, C&N ratios) parameters in response to elevated CO 2 and moisture stress of blackgram. Studied the interactive effects of elevated CO 2 and salinity stress on antioxidative enzymes (SOD, CAT and APx) in peanut. Publications 1.
