1 Maharashtra Groundnut By the end of first week of September rice crop condition is improving in all the districts of Konkan and in Kolhapur, western Talukas of Pune and Satara districts and many other crops is moderately satisfactory in Kolhapur, Sangli, Nanded, Parbhani and Western parts of Pune and Satara due to heavy rain. The crop situation in other districts of the State is satisfactory. So far Konkan, Vidarbha and Marathwada received normal rainfall and Madhya Maharashtra received excess rainfall during monsoon season. Sugarcane and Kharif cotton are at active vegetative stage. Groundnut and soybean are at flowering / pod formation stage. Kharif rice is at tillering / flag leaf initiation stage. Jowar and bajra are at vegetative / flag leaf initiation / flowering stage. The crop is at flowering / pegging / pod formation stage. Crop is in moderately satisfactory condition in Kolhapur, Sangli, Nanded, Hingoli, Parbhani and Western parts of Pune and Satara due to heavy rain and is in satisfactory condition in other districts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. Mild incidence of sucking insects in Nashik and Latur division is reported. Spray 5% Neem extract or 10 ml or 50% water soluble Carbaril 40 gm in 10 litre of water if the incidence occurs in Vidarbha. Postpone the same in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada as there is chance of moderate to rather heavy rain at many places in these regions.

2 Kharif Rice The crop is at active tillering / flag leaf initiation stage. Crop is improving in Raigad, Ratnagiri, Thane, Kolhapur, Sangli districts & Western talukas of Pune & Satara districts and is in satisfactory condition in other districts of Madhya Maharashtra and in Vidarbha. There is chance of attack of Stem borer, Leaf folder, Leaf roller, White Backed Plant Hopper, Blast, Bacterial leaf blight and Brown spot during this month. Mild incidence of leaf roller in Thane and Raigad districts and Blast in Nagpur and Kolhapur division are reported. A second dose of 40 kg Nitrogen / ha may be applied in Vidarbha. Postpone the same in Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada as there is chance of moderate to rather heavy rain at many places in these regions. For the control of Leaf roller use 10G 10 kg or 5G 15 kg / ha in Vidarbha. For the control of Blast use 10g Carbendazim in 10 liter water in Vidarbha. Postpone the application of plant protection measures in Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada as there is chance of moderate to rather heavy rain at many places in these regions. Maintain water level of 3-5 cm in the field. Sugarcane (Pre-seasonal) Irrigated Cotton The crop is at active vegetative stage and crop is in moderately satisfactory condition in South Madhya Maharashtra due to damage on the banks of Panchaganaga & Krishna river due to flood caused by very heavy rain and is in satisfactory condition in other districts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. 40 % crop is damaged in the state. There is chance of attack of White fly, Leaf miner, Stem fly and Girdle beetle during this month. Mild incidence of White Woolly Aphids in Nasik and Kolhapur division and Army worm in the fields on the bank of Bhima river is reported. Monitor crops regularly and if White Woolly Aphid is noticed, release 2500 eggs or larvae of Crysoparla carnea or 1000 eggs or larvae of Conobatra aphidivhora / ha on leaves early in the morning to control the insect in Vidarbha. Postpone the same in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada as there is chance of moderate to rather heavy rain at many places in these regions. For the control of Army worm dusting of 2 % Methyl Parathion or 1.5 % Quinolphos or 10 % Malathion 25 to 40 kg / ha may be done in Vidarbha. Postpone the same in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada as there is chance of moderate to rather heavy rain at many places in these regions. The crop is at active vegetative/ flowering / boll formation stage in Vidarbha and is in satisfactory condition. There is chance of attack of Thrips, Aphids, White fly, Spotted boll worm, American boll worm and White fly during this month. Mild incidence of Jassids and Aphids are reported in Jalgaon district. Monitor crops regularly for the insects. For control of Aphids and Jassids, spray 5% Neem extract or 500 ml Methyl Dimeton or Diamethoate / ha in 500 litre water.

3 Bajra Kharif Jowar Soybean The crop is at flag leaf initiation / flowering stage and crop is in moderately satisfactory condition in Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Nanded, Hingoli, Parbhani and Western parts of Pune due to heavy rain and is in satisfactory condition in other districts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. Apply 65 kg / ha in vidarbha. Postpone the same in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada as there is chance of moderate to rather heavy rain at many places in these regions. The crop is at vegetative/ flag leaf initiation stage and crop is in moderately satisfactory condition in Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Nanded, Parbhani and Western parts of Pune due to heavy rain and is in satisfactory condition in other districts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. Mild incidence of Stem borer is reported in Aurangabad division. For the control of Stem borer spray Endosulphon 1075 ml in 750 liter of water in Vidarbha. Same dose may be repeated after 10 days. Postpone the same in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada as there is chance of moderate to rather heavy rain at many places in these regions. Hoeing to keep the field weed free and application of recommended dose of Nitrogen may be done in Vidarbha. Postpone the same in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada as there is chance of moderate to rather heavy rain at many places in these regions. The crop is at flowering / pod formation stage and crop is in moderately satisfactory condition in Kolhapur, Sangli, Nanded, Hingoli, Parbhani and western parts of Pune and Satara due to heavy rain and is in satisfactory condition in other districts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. Mild incidence of Leaf eating cater pillar and rust in Kolhapur, sucking insects and Semi looper in Latur and Leaf eating cater pillar, Hairy cater pillar and Semi looper in Nagpur division is reported. For the control of insects spray 1 liter Quinolphos or 700 ml Monocrotophos / ha in 500 liter water in Vidarbha. Postpone the same in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada as there is chance of moderate to rather heavy rain at many places in these regions.

4 Kharif Cotton The crop is active vegetative stage and crop is in moderately satisfactory condition in Nanded, Parbhani, Amraoti and Yeotmal due to heavy rain and is in satisfactory condition in other districts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. Mild incidence of Aphids and Jassids in Nagpur and Aurangabad division and Sucking insects in Amraoti division are reported. For the control of Aphids & Jassids spray 5% Neem extract or 500 ml Methyl Dimeton or Diamethoate / ha in 500 litre water in Vidarbha. Postpone the same in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada as there is chance of moderate to rather heavy rain at many places in these regions. Second dose of 40 kg Nitrogen may be applied in Vidarbha. Perform intercultural operation in Vidarbha to keep the field weed free. Madhya Pradesh By the end of first week of September 2005, crops are in satisfactory condition. East MP received normal rainfall and west MP received deficient rainfall during the monsoon season. Sugarcane is at elongation stage. Groundnut is at pod maturity/early harvesting stage. Soybean flowering/pod formation and cotton is at flowering/ early boll formation stage. Paddy is at vegetative stage. Maize is in grain formation, urad is in pod formation and tur is in flowering/pod formation stage.

5 Sugarcane The crop is at elongation stage and in satisfactory condition. Monitor the crop for the pests and diseases. Crop may be affected by pyrilla. Take appropriate plant protection measures for control of the pest on non-rainy days in south west MP and apply the same in rest of the parts of the state as and when the pest is noticed above ETL. Take up earthing up in sugarcane field on a non-rainy days in south west MP. Apply fertilizer on crop on non-rainy days in south west MP. Apply irrigation to bring the soil to field capacity level particularly to the districts outside south west MP where rain is expected in isolated places.. Use maximum Bio manures. Groundnut The crop is at pod maturity/ early harvesting stage and in satisfactory condition. Monitor the pests and diseases incidences on the crop. Avoid plant protection measures and irrigation as the crop is at pod maturity to early harvesting stage. Soybean The crop is at flowering/ pod formation stage and in satisfactory condition. There may be chance of incidences of blue beetle, girdle beetle and tobacco caterpillar on the crop. To protect crop from Blue beetle, apply Quinalphos 20kg per ha or spray Quinalphos 25EC, Endosulphon 1.5lit per hectare on non-rainy days in south west MP on non-rainy days in south west MP and apply the same in rest of the parts of the state as and when the pest is noticed above ETL. For Girdle beetle, spray Trijophos 40EC or Monocrotophos 800ml in 750ml of water per hectare on non-rainy days in south west MP and apply the same in rest of the parts of the state as and when the pest is noticed above ETL. To control Tobbaco catterpiller, spray Quinalphos or Cloropicriphos or Endosulphon 1250ml per hectare. Or spread of powder of Endosulphon or Quinolphos, or Methylparatheon as per recommendation on non-rainy days in south west MP and apply the same in rest of the parts of the state as and when the pest is noticed above ETL. If soyabean leaves are affected by some diseases then spray Bilaytocks 50dissolve 3gm in 1litre of water. Apply irrigation to bring the soil to field capacity level particularly to the districts outside south west MP where rain is expected in isolated places. Use maximum Bio manures.

6 Kharif Crops Cotton Rice Kharif urad is in pod formation, tur is in flowering/pod formation and maize is in grain formation and in satisfactory condition. Keep regular watch on pests and diseases. There may be chance of incidences of stem borer on the crops. Take appropriate plant protection measures for control of the pest. Apply irrigation to bring the soil to field capacity level particularly to the districts outside south west MP where rain is expected in isolated places. Use maximum Bio manures. The crop is at flowering/early boll formation stage and in satisfactory condition. There may be chance of incidences of bollworm borer on the crop. Take appropriate plant protection measures for control of the pest on non-rainy days in south west MP and apply the same in rest of the parts of the state as and when the pest is noticed above ETL.. Apply irrigation to bring the soil to field capacity level particularly to the districts outside south west MP where rain is expected in isolated places.. Use maximum Bio manures There may be chance of incidences of green and white mahu on the crop. To control white and green Mahu in paddy spray Methyldemeton or 2ml in one litre of water pest on non-rainy days in south west MP and apply the same in rest of the parts of the state as and when the pest is noticed above ETL... Apply irrigation to bring 5-7 cm water level. Use maximum Bio manures. Orissa By the end of first week of September 2005, the crop situation in the State is satisfactory. So far, the State received normal rainfall during monsoon season. Sugarcane is at active vegetative stage; while vegetables are at fruiting / harvesting stage. Kharif rice, pulses and cotton are at vegetative stage. There was no significant rainfall in most of the districts during last week and there are chances of rainfall at many places for the next two days in the state. There is also a probability of 50-70% wet spells and chances of mm assured rainfall in the next week. Under these circumstances, postpone irrigation to the standing crop.

7 Vegetables Cotton Kharif rice The crops are at fruiting / harvesting stage and in satisfactory condition. To control Melay bug spray the crop with 2 ml Malathion per litre of water if the crop is fruiting stage 2ml Methyl demiton or Metacid per litre of water if the crop is at other stage after spells of rain. To control Leaf Folder and Fruit Borer in Okra, spray the crop with Cartap 1 gm in 1 litre of water after spells of rain. Continue harvesting the vegetables. Raise nursery bed for brinjal and tomato after spells of rain. In case of chilly, select resistant varieties like Utkal Rasmi, Utkal Abha. There is chance of attack of Stem borer during this month. At 60 days stage, complete intercultural operations and apply 12 Kg. of N/acre and spray the crop with 2 ml. in 4-5 litres of water. To control Helicoverpa, spray N.P.V. 200 L.E. per acre or 400 ml. Endusulfan per acre after spells of rain. To control Angular leaf spot, spray 3 gm Copper Oxy chloride ad 1 gm Plactomycin per 200 litres of water per acre after spells of rain. There is chance of attack of Stem borer, White backed plant hopper, Case worm, Gall midge, Leaf folder, Brown Plant Hopper, Green Leaf Hopper, Hispa, Whorl maggot, Gundhi bug, Grass hopper, Blast, Brown spot, Bacterial Leaf Blight during this month. To control blast & bacterial leaf blight in nursery bed, spray 2 gm Copper Oxychloride & 1 gm Plantomycin in 1 litre of water after spells of rain. To control stem borer, case worm, leaf folder and swarming caterpillar spray the crop with 2 ml. in 1 litre of water after spells of rain.

8 Jute The crop is at harvesting stage and in satisfactory condition. At the time of harvesting grade the plants as per thickness, within 2-3 days defoliate and make bundles of cm diameter and prepare for retting. Sugarcane Pulses It is at active vegetative stage and in satisfactory condition. There is chance of attack of top shoot borer, red rot, early stem borer during this month. To control red rot, spray the crop with 1.5 gm in 1 litre of water after spells of rain. To control the inter node borer and Pyrilla release Trichogramma 20,000 per acre and release Epiricania Melanoleucas after spells of rain. Wrapping may be done for 5 7 months old crop. To control the Melay bug in pulses, spray 400 ml. or 50 ml. in 200 litres of water per acre after spells of rain. To control Flea Beetle in Mung, Biri and Arhar, spray 2ml. in 1 ltr of water after spells of rain Undertake intercultural operation to keep the field weed free after spells of rain. Punjab By the end of first week of September 2005, the crops are in satisfactory condition. So far the state has received deficient rainfall during the monsoon season. Sugarcane, rice, groundnut and pulses are at vegetative stage. Cotton is at flowering/ boll formation stage. Maize is at grain development stage. As dry spells continue during last four weeks in most of the districts in the state and as light to moderate rain/thundershowers is likely to occur at a few places, irrigate the field to bring the soil to its field capacity.

9 Cotton The crop is at flowering/ boll formation stage and in satisfactory condition. There is chance of attack of Helicoverpa, Spotted boll worm, Pink bollworm, during this month. Hoe the crop to destroy the weeds. For hand hoeing use of wheel hoe is recommended. The attack of jassid and whitefly below E.T.L. and CLCV attacked on cotton adjoining to orchard been noticed. Prevailing weather condition may be favourable for incidence of jassid, white fly, bollworm and other leaf eating caterpillars. Farmers are advised to take adequate plant protection measures. Necessary plant protection measures may be taken at regular interval. Sugarcane There is chance of attack of Pyrilla, Top borer on the crop. Earthing of the crop should be done. Prop up the crop by the trash twist method to save it from lodging. As subdued monsoon conditions are prevailing and likely to continue and prevailing weather condition may favour incidence of pest and diseases, farmers are advised to take adequate plant protection measures to check attack of pest / disease. Rice There is chance of attack of Leaf Blight, Brown spot, False Stem borer, Green Leaf Hopper, Leaf folder, Grass hopper, White Backed Plant Hopper, Rice skipper, Bacterial smut. Intercultural operation for both the early and timely transplanted crops may be carried out with paddy-weedier to keep the field weed free. Where paddy weedier cant be run, hand weeding may be done. As subdued monsoon conditions are prevailing and likely to continue and prevailing weather condition may favour incidence of pest and diseases, farmers are advised to take adequate plant protection measures to check attack of pest / disease. To control root weevil apply 10kg Sevin 4G per acre. Do not allow the weeds to grow in the field.

10 Groundnut Pulses (Arhar) Give one or two hoeing to control weeds. Weeds can also be controlled by spraying of Basal 2 litre dissolved in 200 liters of water per acre. Sequent ional spray of two growth regulators namely Indole acetic acid and Ethrel be given to increase yield. IAA be half gm per acre dissolved in small quantity of alcohol mixed in 100 liter water followed by spray of Ethrel 6ml in water 100 liter water 7-10 days after first spray. As subdued monsoon conditions are prevailing and likely to continue and prevailing weather condition may favour incidence of pest and diseases, farmers are advised to take adequate plant protection measures to check attack of pest / disease. Give one or two hoeing to control weeds. Rajasthan By the end of first week of September 2005, crops are in satisfactory condition in the State. So far the State received deficient rainfall during monsoon season. Cotton is at boll formation stage and groundnut is at pod formation stage. Kharif pulses are at flowering stage.

11 Kharif pulses (Moong, Urad, Moth) Soybean The crops are at flowering/pod formation stage and reported to be affected due to shortage of rainfall in different parts of the State. Sowing completed in Lac hectares. There was no significant rainfall in all the districts of the state during last week and there are chances of rainfall at many/few places in the State for the next two days. There is also 70-80% probability of dry spells in East Rajasthan and 80-90% in West Rajasthan for the next week. Under these circumstances, apply required irrigation to the standing crops to bring the soil moisture to its field capacity. Postpone irrigation in Udaipur, Ajmer and Kota divisions. The crop is at flowering/pod formation stage and in satisfactory condition. Sowing completed in 6.99 Lac hectares. Cotton The crop is at boll formation stage and in satisfactory condition. Sowing was completed in 4.54 lakh ha. To control Heliothis, spray NPV 250LE or 1 litre/ha after spells of rain in Udaipur, Ajmer and Kota divisions and continue spraying in Jodhpur, Bikaner and Jaipur divisions. There was no significant rainfall in all the districts of the state during last week and there are chances of rainfall at many/few places in the State for the next two days. There is also 70-80% probability of dry spells in East Rajasthan and 80-90% in West Rajasthan for the next week. Under these circumstances, apply required irrigation to the standing crop to bring the soil moisture to its field capacity. Postpone irrigation in Udaipur, Ajmer and Kota divisions.

12 Bajra Bajra is at flowering/early grain formation stage and reported to be affected due to shortage of rainfall in different parts of the State. Sowing was completed in lakh ha. To control termite in bajra, spray Methyl 2% to control the pest after spells of rain in Udaipur, Ajmer and Kota divisions and continue spraying in Jodhpur, Bikaner and Jaipur divisions. There was no significant rainfall in all the districts of the state during last week and there are chances of rainfall at many/few places in the State for the next two days. There is also 70-80% probability of dry spells in East Rajasthan and 80-90% in West Rajasthan for the next week. Under these circumstances, apply required irrigation to the standing crop to bring the soil moisture to its field capacity. Postpone irrigation in Udaipur, Ajmer and Kota divisions. There was no significant rainfall in all the districts of the state during last week and there are chances of rainfall at many/few places in the State for the next two days. There is also 70-80% probability of dry spells in East Rajasthan and 80-90% in West Rajasthan for the next week.
