5 Soil life in the top soil (until 30 cm depth) Soil life converts organic matter in premium fertilizer. Activity of soil life can of course vary depending on different soil characteristics. The bulk of soil organism differs in the below mentioned range. Bacteria, fungi, algae g/m² Insects, slugs g/m² Eathworm g/m²» total g/m²» = kg/ha» / 600 kg (= 1 GVE*)» = 4,5 41 GVE*/ha These GVE* needs food by crop residues and catch crops Soil is living, therefore it needs air and food! *GVE = Großvieheinheit = lifestock unit
