Danish Cattle Research Centre

Welcome to Danish Cattle Research Centre (KFC) The Centre is established by Danish Cattle farmers organisations in 2000 The Centre is managed in close co-operation with The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of Aarhus (DJF) Danish Cattle The board of the Centre is identical with the board of Danish Cattle

Visions and Goals To carry out experiments of benefit for the development of the Danish cattle industry To ensure active interaction between research and the Danish cattle industry To ensure efficient transfer of new research results to the Danish cattle industry To develop an attractive visiting centre for cattle producers and consumers To ensure contact with the international cattle research

Research: Who Decides and Who Pays? DJF is responsible for the experiments Experiments are jointly decided between the cattle industry and DJF Experimental costs are covered by: Cattle Industry Industry and public funds in common Public funds Other sources

Modern Un-insulated Units - like the commercial cattle farms Cow barn - 2,900 m 2 Calf barn m 2 Young stock barn - 1,260m 2

Research projects (I) Modern feeding strategies based on individual cows Genetic strategies for robust cows ( ) Nutritional opportunities for optimum rumen function and reduced incidence of liver abscesses among slaughter calves ( ) Prevention of physiological imbalances in dairy cows ( ) Coping strategies of high yielding dairy cows in loose housing systems ( ) Biological indicators as management tools (BIOSENS, , ) Early identification of production diseases in dairy cows ( )

Research projects (II) Transponder managed feeding of group housed calves ( ) Protein levels for heifers ( ) Production of young beef cattle based on diets with roughage ( ) Automatic registration of behaviour for monitoring health and reproduction in dairy cows ( )

Research projects (III) Colestrum management quality and storage methods (2006) Foot bath solutions for dairy cows (2006) Free access of concentrate and corn silage for young bulls feed intake and growth ( ) Effect of concentrate management (taste, amount, etc.) on cow behaviour in AMS (2006) Improved genetic evaluation and key figures regarding reproduction

Research projects from 2007 (I) Dairy cows Nutritional strategies focused on milk fat compostion and healthy cows. Effects on milk production, health and milk quality Welfare in dairy cows in relation to yield, behaviour, nutritional strategies and stage of lactation Reduction of lameness in Danish dairy herds Risk management by use og high tech in dairy barns Cheese clotting in milk from high yielding dairy cows
