In all the plots we have done with DEKALB over the last few years, BL has been the highest yielder. Every year I add in new hybrids to try to beat it but every year it comes out the winner. It really stood out because of its Clubroot and multi-genic Blackleg resistance, it was easy to combine, and it was definitely one of the very best in our trials for standability. Its early maturity was another advantage; typically we were always going for yield so we had to push a bit longer, the advantage with CR is that you don t have to give that up, you get both an earlier maturity and a great yield. 12 OUTSMART WEEDS IN 3 STEPs Managing resistance isn t about using less glyphosate; it s about using herbicides effectively. Here s how: Mixtures work best. Tank mixes have been shown to be more effective than alternating single-mode applications (AKA rotating herbicides) when it comes to managing herbicide resistance Tank mix at least once per growing season. Add another effective mode of action to the tank with glyphosate. Group 1 and 2 herbicides are considered high risk, as many weed species are resistant to these herbicides. Using them can put more pressure on glyphosate to control tough weeds such as kochia, wild oats and cleavers.
