1 KUTELA KATEMBO Dieudonne, Global Ministries Missionary-East Angola. Tel: (00244) Advance# March 30, 2016 Dear beloved brothers and sisters in Christ. Receive Easter greetings from Quessua Mission Agriculture project. First of all I would like to thank God for his grace and love towards my family and I, it has been now six months that we are in Quesua Mission and God is with us. To you all I say thank you for your prayers, encouragements and support to my Agriculture Ministry. It s our hope that as we have commemorated the Holy week we see many blessings which come from the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. So far the work has been going well despite some challenges here and there but with God s love and help we always find a way to face challenges. Jesus responded to a man in the book of: Luc 9:61-62 No one who puts his hands to the plow and looks back, is fit for service in the kingdom of God. We are reminded to hold on to the plow and never look back. Which means we need to be focused, determined on the work, disciplined and not look back despite challenges in order to be successful. Quessua United Methodist Mission has about 3800 hectares of land and it has potential of having several agricultural projects such as live stock (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs etc...) poultry, orchard, agro forestry and many others. Land problem is not an issue in Quessua UMC Mission. Having all the means available, these projects should be executed with time so that Quessua Mission becomes a food basket for the community also the best agricultural training center from where the community, students and peasant farmers should learn from. Land preparation for field crop and vegetable garden

2 We had started with dry beans field, about half a hectare but the rains were not on our side, imagine the rains just stopped for about a month and half and all the beans planted got dried completely. Vegetable garden preparation Dry Beans field We did not look back but moved on with vegetable garden, preparing the land for cabbages, onions, tomatoes, Suisse chard and carrots. Our garden looks nice and all is going well. Cabbage field with students

3 Training students on compost making Training farmers Training session with farmers from Casusina and Mufungo villages, which surround Quessua Mission on the culture and importance of vegetables to improve their diet in order to keep themselves healthier. Most of farmers in Quessua do the culture of cassava and neglect vegetables and mostly depend on buying in the city and that is very expensive. So it is no use to tell people to consume more vegetables if they do not know how to grow them Watering of our cabbages

4 It is my pleasure to inform you that the community is willing to learn as well as students but after learning most of peasant farmers are requesting seeds to start with in order to practice what they have learnt from Quessua farm. Students have been participating in different farm activities such as weeding, watering and sowing vegetables seeds. It is really encouraging when the community is participating and willing to learn about farming with new agricultural techniques. Students watering vegetables One of the biggest challenges we have right now is to have water available near the garden since we are approaching the dry season. We have been privileged by the rains but it is getting to an end. Acquiring irrigation facilities such as water pump, water tank and hoses will easier the work and we will be able to expand the garden for more vegetable production by having different types of vegetables in the garden. Garden weeding and onions transplanting Tomatoes harvesting with students

5 Cabbages harvesting with students MORINGA Project Moringa seedlings are being prepared to be planted at the farm as means of educating the community on the usage and importance of Moringa. Some seedlings will be distributed to the community and farmers in different villages surrounding Quessua mission after being trained on the usage starting from the flowers, leaves, seeds, barks and the roots of Moringa trees. Some will get cuttings, after Moringa has grown big in our farm. We are planning to be drying leaves and then turn them into powder and start distributing to mothers with babies, to be used as Moringa tea or mixed with other food Moringa seedlings Rabbit project With vegetable garden we are planning to start soon rearing rabbits, to train farmers on the usage of rabbit manure/dropping and urine which contains more nutrients and are useful source of organic fertilizer for growing vegetables. Rabbits contain a lot of protein and can reproduce 6 times a year 1 to 12 litter. Much beneficial for a family as cheaper and affordable source of protein
