5 Summary U.S. Value of Production and Sales Down Percent The combined value of production from broilers, eggs, turkeys, and the value of sales from chickens in 005, was $8. billion, down percent from the $8.9 billion in 00. Of the combined total, 7 percent was from broilers, percent from eggs, percent from turkeys, and less than percent from chickens. U.S. Value of Broiler Production Up Percent The value of broilers produced during 005 was $0.9 billion, up percent from 00. The total number of broilers produced in 005 was 8.87 billion, up percent from 00. The total amount of live weight broilers produced in 005 was 7.9 billion pounds, up 5 percent from 00. The 005 average price per pound on a live weight equivalent basis was.6 cents per pound, compared with.6 cents in 00. U.S. Value of Egg Production Down Percent Value of all egg production in 005 was $.0 billion, down percent from the $5.0 billion in 00. Egg production totaled 90.0 billion eggs, up percent from the 89. billion eggs produced in 00. In 005, all eggs averaged 5.9 cents per dozen, compared with 7. cents in 00. U.S. Value of Turkey Production Up 6 Percent The value of turkeys produced during 005 was $. billion, up 6 percent from the $.05 billion the previous year. Turkey production in 005 totaled 7. billion pounds, down percent from the 7.8 billion pounds produced in 00. The average price received by producers during 005 was.9 cents per pound, compared with.0 cents in 00. U.S. Value of Sales from Chickens Up Percent The value of sales from chickens (excluding broilers) in 005 was $6.6 million, up percent from the $57.6 million a year ago. Prices averaged 6.5 cents per pound, compared with 5.8 cents in 00. The number of chickens sold in 005 totaled 9 million, up percent from the total sold during the previous year. This report contains annual estimates for Puerto Rico chickens and eggs.
