References Documents - Developing Spatial Data Infrastructures: The SDI Cookbook Doug Nebert, NASA Geospatial Interoperability Return on Investment Study - April Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Geospatial Portal Reference Architecture September Software - GeoServer A Transactional Web Feature Server and Web Map Server. The application allows the publishing and updating of interactive spatial data on the Internet or intranet. - MapServer A very powerful and fast Web Map Server. Can be used for several types of interactive map services (WMS, WCS and WFS). - udig User-friendly Desktop Internet GIS (udig) is an open source spatial data viewer/editor, with special emphasis on the OpenGIS standards for Internet GIS, the Web Map Server and Web Feature Server standards. udig will provide a common Java platform for building spatial applications with open source components. - gvsig An open source, platform independent GIS desktop application with emphasis on OpenGIS standards. The application is developed as part of the Spanish national SDI. - PostgreSQL-PostGIS A free extension on the popular free and open source PostgreSQL Database Management System providing spatial extensions. PostGIS is always used in combination with PostgreSQL and can be used as a GeoDatabase back end for applications as the abovementioned GeoServer, MapServer, udig and gvsig.
