2 INTRODUCTION : The Birsa Agriculture University (BAU), a premier organization in the state of Jharkhand, to look after high standard of education and training on different aspects of Agricultural Sciences. The Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry is one of its disciplines with high level of faculty expertise. In fact the soil testing service in India began in with the objective to full fill the need of the farmers. A soil testing laboratory with all the essential facilities for soil and water analysis was established in the department to cater the need of farming community of the state and our students. At present, this laboratory is well known among research and extension agencies, and farmers for its advanced facilities, high quality of soil/plant /irrigation water analysis and an efficient advisory service. So many short course training programmes in soil testing have been organized successfully in the department for Gov. official/ngo as well as farmers of the state. Based on the need of soil testing trained person for meeting the requirement of Hon ble Prime Minister Soil Health Card Mission, human resource development on soil, plant, water analysis and instrumental methods and their applications, the Department of Soil Science & Agril Chemistry is initiating SHORT COURSE of ONE WEEK duration training programme on Soil testing with desired emphasis on practical exercises and theoretical background of the subject suiting a wide range of applications. OBJECTIVES : The major objective of improving awareness and skills of the participants in modern techniques of analysis of soil, water and plant for research and extension activities in agriculture and allied fields, Use of instruments and their general upkeep/maintenance, Interpretation of analytical data and formulation of reports/recommendations. To cover soil characteristics, testing techniques and methods of interpretation of data, so as to make it more useful. ABOUT THE COURSE : The training course is meant for all those working (or likely to work) in soil testing/analytical laboratories taking up soil, plant and water analysis. The course will cover some theory lectures

3 on topics most relevant to the subject along with a proportionate number of practical exercises with greater emphasis on analytical techniques adopting a learning-by-doing type of approach. DURATION : The duration of this training course is ONE weeks i.e. 12 th Dec to 17 th December, th Dec to 31 st December Every Second and Forth week of the month till March ELIGIBILITY & SELECTION CRITERIA : Candidates sponsored by Govt./Semi-Govt. organizations, fertilizer industry, cooperatives, NGOs, ICAR institutes & Innovative farmers etc. will be given preference. Private entrepreneurs with minimum 10+2 pass can also apply. The applications/nominations will be scrutinized and formal admission letters will be issued to the selected candidates by . FEE : A consolidated fee of Rs. 5,000/- (Rupees Five thousand only) is to be paid by the candidate through Demand Draft in favour of COMPTROLLER, Birsa Agricultural University, Kanke, Ranchi, drawn on any bank in Ranchi. The fee covers course fee and expenses on local transport, training &registration material, stationery etc. Charges of boarding and lodging will be born by participant/sponsoring authority. The fee has to be sent by the candidate only on receipt of Admission Letter, and not with the application. HOW TO APPLY? : The application as per the given format, complete in all respects and duly signed by the sponsoring authority, should be sent to The Course Director, Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Birsa Agricultural University, Kanke, Ranchi ,Jharkhand via Registered Mail/Courier/ , so as to reach him latest by one week before the start of the course.
