Options which create additional reports incur an extra charge, while options which determine how data is reported back to the producer have no extra charge. The DHI Technician can make option changes on test day on the options screen of their data input program. In order to add a special option a Y or the appropriate code should be entered for that option. To delete an option a N or 0 (zero) should be entered. Herds should only need entries for options if a change is desired with the exception of 513 (Cows by Sire), 514 (Cows by Service Sire), 570 (Heifer ID Check List), and 575 (Cow ID Check List) which are not usually wanted each test. Code these options with a Y each time they are wanted. The following paragraphs briefly describe each option and how it is requested. An example form of each optional report is available: in PCDART - click on Test Day Tasks, Report Options, report tab, and then double click the report PDF to see and print an example. from your DHI Technician - an example can be printed if using PCDART for input on test day. from the DRMS web site ( - click on the DHIA Records link; optional reports are available as a PDF to view or print.

Herd Options Herd Options most of these options determine how data will be reported on the various reports, and there is no charge for these options. Cost will be noted for options that incur a charge. Opt. # HERD OPTIONS 15 Days to Stand Dry Days Before 1st Breeding (VWP) Store & Print 365-Day Records Y 41 Extra Copy Monthly Report Y 42 Extra Copy Herd Summary Y 44 Extra Copy Cow Pages N 46 Extra Copy Barnsheets N 47 Extra Copy Special List N 48 Expected Monthly Cull Rate % 2 59 Sire Identity 2 1=AI Name, 2=AI Code 60 Cow Identity 1 1=Index, 2=Barn Name 62 Preg Checks Will Be Reported Format of SCC Data 1 1=Score, 2=Actual, N=None 65 Feed Data Will Be Reported Y 71 Feed LBS Conc. on Reports Y 74 Merit $ Option 3 1=Fluid Merit, 2=Cheese Merit, 3=Net Merit 78 Duplex Print D S=Simplex, D=Duplex 79 Projected Lactation Production 0 0=ME 305, 1=Actual PocketDairy Y 90 Supress Printed Reports N 630 Print Pretest Invoice Y 15 Days to Stand Dry - is the desired number of days cows are to stand dry. 60 days is the standard value used in computing date to turn dry ; however, a shorter or longer dry period may be used. 17 Days Before 1st Breeding (VWP) - is the desired number of days cows are to remain open before the first breeding (Voluntary Waiting Period). The standard value for the number of days open before breeding is 60 days; however, a value other than 60 may be selected. 33 Store and Print 365-Day Records - this option causes cows milking more than 365 days to have their 365 day milk, fat and protein production printed on the Monthly Report the month they milk beyond 365 days. The record is also printed on the cow page. 365 day lactation records on all registered cows except Jerseys are forwarded to the Breed Association the month they are completed. Jersey Cattle Club has not requested 365 day lactation records. Cost is 2 per cow per test Extra Copies - these options are used to request additional copies of several herd reports. When requesting extra copies, the name and address to which the copies will be mailed must be furnished. These copies may be useful to a consultant, veterinarian or researcher. Costs are: 41 Monthly Report: $2.00 per extra copy 42 Herd Summary: $1.25 per extra copy 44 Cow Pages: 2 per cow per set of extra copies 46 Barn Sheets: two additional copies are available at no extra charge and are mailed to the farm only 47 Special List: $2.00 (all four breeding package listings per extra copy) 48 Expected Monthly Cull Rate % enables the producer to designate a monthly percentage of cows to be culled. This is used to calculate the projected number of cows to be milking on the herd summary. If no cull rate is entered (blank), the monthly cull rate is calculated by dividing the annual % cows left herd by 12. If zero is entered (0.0) for cull rate, the projected number of milking cows assumes no cows will be culled.

6 Herd Options 59 Sire Identity determines how sires are identified on the monthly report, cow page, calf page special management lists, annual heifer inventory and heifer calf management listing. Use code 1 to identify sires by A.I. code name. Use code 2 to identify sires by A.I. code number. The complete standard A.I. code number or registration number should be reported for service sires with breeding dates and sire identification for new cows entering the herd. The system will use this A.I. code number or registration number to look up the A.I. code name or A.I. code number and print this on all forms which include the sire or service sire identification. 60 Cow Identity determines how cows will be identified on some management lists. Code 1 = identified by index number Code 2 = identified by barn name Cows are identified by both index number and barn name on most DHI forms. 62 Preg Checks Will Be Reported - If a herd is on routine pregnancy diagnosis and reporting pregnancy checks, the number of days after breeding that the producer wants a pregnancy diagnosis should be entered. If a herd is not planning to report pregnancy checks, a N should be entered here. To help determine if a N should be entered here, consider the following: List of Cows to Pregnancy Check for DHI- 205 reoprt: If a Y is entered, this list will include all cows not yet diagnosed pregnant. If N is entered this list will only include all cows bred in the last 60 days. Preg Rates on the DHI-202 Herd Summary: If N is entered for option 62, preg rates will not be listed on the DHI-202 Herd Summary. 64 Format of SCC Data designates how somatic cell count results are printed on most reports. Use code 1 to print the linear score. Use code 2 to print actual cell count. Code N should be used if the herd is not receiving SCC results. 65 Feed Data Will Be Reported specifies whether any feed information is reported for the herd, strings or groups of cows or for individual cows. If this option is not chosen, all items pertaining to feed information will be blank on reports. This includes pounds of concentrates fed, pounds of concentrates indicated, income over feed cost for each cow on certain Monthly Reports and all information pertaining to feed on the Herd Summary. If feed information is dropped one test and then resumed, the yearly feed totals and individual cow feed data will be missing for the next 12 months. Cost for reporting feed information is 50 per test. 71 Feed LBS Conc. on Reports denotes whether recommended pounds of concentrate will be printed on the DHI-200 monthly report as a feeding guide for each cow. It is necessary to report TDN (Total Digestible Nutrients) values for each type of feed reported on test day. The herd must also receive the DHI Merit $ Option designates the method used to display Merit $ on many reports. Codes are: 1=FM$ (milk and fat), 2=CM$ -(cheese yield) or 3=NM$ (milk, fat and protein). 78 Duplex Print designates if applicable reports will be printed duplex (both sides) or simplex (one side) 79 Projected Lactation Production determines if the 305-day projected production lactation of cows printed on the monthly report will have a 305-day standardized 2X, Mature Equivalent projection or an actual production projection. Use code 0 for ME or code 1 for actual.

Herd Options PocketDairy determines if the herd is using the PocketDairy software for handheld devices. 90 Suppress Printed Reports - a producer can elect not to receive any printed reports by having a Y (Yes) entered here. If no printed reports are received, the producer can sign up for web reports at so PDF (Portable Document Format) files of the herd s reports can be accessed. 630 Print Pretest Invoice allows the producer to have an estimated statement of billing sent with his reports even if the DHI Service Affiliate is not routinely having these forms mailed to members. Cost is $1 per test. Monthly Reports Two Herd Summary reports (DHI-202 and 219), and eight different monthly reports listing individual cow test day information (DHI-200, 210, 211, 220, 225, 300, 312 and 365) are available to the producer. There are seven options for the order of cows on the monthly reports as shown above. In addition, the 312 and 365 reports can be printed simplex (one side only) or duplex (both sides) Opt. # MONTHLY REPORTS 202 Standard Herd Summary Y 219 Basic Herd Summary Y 1=Index 365 Condensed DHI Report Y Report Order=5 Simplex / Duplex Print D 2=Barn Name Tst Dys w/ Feed Recommendation Y Report Order=1 3=Index w/string Test Days w/3 Breeding Events Y Report Order=1 4=Barn Name w/string 211 Monthly Production Report Y Report Order=1 5=Birth Date Test Days w/ HM Dev. If one monthly report is received, the charge is 3 per cow per test. Each additional monthly report costs only 1 per cow per test. 202 Standard Herd Summary provides a comprehensive herd analysis and management report including production, reproduction, genetics, udder health and feed cost information. If a herd is enrolled in the permanent string option, a herd summary is printed for each string. Cost is $1.25 per test.

8 Monthly Lactation Reports and Herd Summaries

DHI-202, Basic Herd Summary provides a basic summary of test day production, rolling herd average, lactation and reproduction parameters. It is best suited for herds that want a simplified herd summary or want to supplement the DHI-202. Cost is 1 per cow.

10 Monthly Lactation Reports and Herd Summaries 365 Condensed DHI Report - contains a condensed version of the DHI-202 Herd Summary as it lists herd performance in areas of production, genetics, reproduction, SCC and inventory. In addition, it also lists individual cow test day data such as current and previous milk, lab data, reproductive status, and summaries by lactation, stage of lactation, and strings. The report was designed for those who want herd summary information and individual cow data on the same report. This option costs $2 per test plus 1 per cow.

DHI Page 2 - Condensed DHI Report (DHI-365)

12 Monthly Lactation Reports and Herd Summaries 200 Monthly Report - 2 Test Days with Feed Recommendation - producers reporting feed information should receive this report if they want daily income over feed cost (IOFC) and concentrate data (lbs. fed and lbs. indicated) for each cow. The herd must be enrolled on option 71 (Lbs. Conc. Indicated )for pounds indicated to be calculated and printed (see page 6). Cost is 3 per cow for the first lactation report; 1 per cow per additional lactation report.

DHI-200, Monthly Report - 10 Test Days with 3 Breeding Events provides test day SCC and milk weights for up to nine previous test days as well as the current test day. Two previous breeding dates as well as the current breeding date are also provided. In addition, the 210 lists lactation number, ERPA, and Interval Days. Cost is 3 per cow for the first lactation report; 1 per cow per additional lactation report.

14 Monthly Lactation Reports and Herd Summaries 211 Monthly Production Report - this report does not use shading and lists 13 cows per page. Usually two lines of information are printed for each cow followed by a blank line. Three lines are printed for a cow completing a 305 or 365 day record. Cost is 3 per cow for the first lactation report; 1 per cow per additional lactation report.

DHI-211, Monthly Report - 7 Test Days with Herdmate Deviation provides test day SCC and milk weights for up to six previous test days as well as the current test day. Lactation-to-Date information includes ERPA $ Deviation from Herdmates. Averages for cows in milk and the herd are listed after individual cow data. A list of cows that reached their 305-day lactation or completed their lactation is listed separately. Cost is 3 per cow for the first lactation report; 1 per cow per additional lactation report.

16 Monthly Lactation Reports and Herd Summaries 225 Monthly Report - 1 Test Day and 305 Complete Lactation This Test lists test day SCC and milk weight for current test day. A list of cows that reached their 305-day lactation or completed their lactation are listed separately. Cost is 3 per cow for the first lactation report; 1 per cow per additional lactation report.

DHI-225, Monthly Report - 1 Test Day with SNF (Solids Not Fat) and MUN provides test day SCC and milk weights for the current test day. Individual SNF is listed in addition to percent and pounds of fat and protein. Individual MUN for the current test day is also listed. The second page provides definitions of codes and terms used on the reports as well as a SCC conversion chart. Cost is 3 per cow for the first lactation report; 1 per cow per additional lactation report.

18 Monthly Lactation Reports and Herd Summaries 312 Lactation Report is a concise summary of each cow s performance on test day as well as lactation-todate with additional management notes that are helpful in making decisions regarding each animal currently in the herd. Cows with a Remarks code, have their ID and pertinent data highlighted for quick verification. An additional line is printed at the end of the report for animals that have reached 305 and 365* days in milk, completed a record or left the herd during the current test period. *Cows reaching 365 days in milk will appear only if the herd is enrolled on option 33 (Store and Print 365 Day Records). The report includes a remarks code and highlighted data; Standardized ME (takes the 305-2X-ME record and standardizes it to 3.5 % fat and 3% protein); Production Index (the percentage ranking of 305 ME production for cows in each lactation group; divides a cow's ME by the average ME for the herd; 100 would be average). Cost is 3 per cow for the first lactation report; 1 per cow per additional lactation report.

DHI-312, Barn Report - Large Print is designed for posting on the barn wall so the print size is much larger than most reports. Several key items on each cow are listed for handy reference at the barn. Cost is 1 per cow.

20 Special Lists Opt. # SPECIAL LISTS 205 Special List Breeding Package Y Cows to Breed Order 2 1=Index, 2=Date Cows to Preg Check Order 2 1=Index, 2=Date Cows to Calve Order 2 1=Index, 2=Date Cows to Turn Dry Order 2 1=Index, 2=Date Form Size 3 1=Pocket, 2=Full , 3=Pocket&Full, 4=Pocket Pocket Action List N 507 Dry Cow List Y 508 Cows by Test Day Milk N 509 Milking Cows: Cow ID Order N 510 Culling Guide Y 513 Cows by Sire Y 514 Cows by Service Sire Y 515 Annual Cow Inventory Y Fiscal Year End (MMDD) = Pocket List All Cows w/prod N 519 Pocket List All Cows w/repro Y Special Lists 205 Special List Breeding Package (Cows to Breed, Preg. Check, Calve, Turn Dry) are four separate listings, and each list may be printed in either cow index/barn name or date order. Option 60 (Cow Identity) determines if the cow index or barn name is printed. The ID column will print the appropriate title (BARN NAME or INDEX NO.). All references to number of days are relative to the most recent test day. Option 15 (Days to Stand Dry) and Option 17 (Voluntary Waiting Period - VWP) should be set to reflect herd goals. If a goal is not selected, both will default to 60 days. List rules are also affected by Option 62 (Preg Checks will be Reported). These lists can be requested as pocket size (which has less data), full size or both. The pocket size is a checkbook size which is intended to be folded, stapled and inserted into a plastic binder (provided the first test this report is requested). NOTE: Heifers will appear on the To Breed, Preg Check, and Calve lists only if the herd is enrolled on Option 214 (Heifer Management). Age to breed heifers is set under this option and defaults to 14 months. Cost is 2 per cow per test for the first special list selected (includes 205, 517, ) and 1 per cow per test for each additional special list. Cows to Breed includes cows with a reproductive code of open. Cows that are not coded pregnant (or estimated pregnant) or cull without a previous breeding will also appear if their VWP date is prior to or within the next 30 days. The cow s VWP date is always listed as the date to breed. Heifers to Breed includes heifers with a reproductive code of open. Heifers that are not coded pregnant (or estimated pregnant) or cull without a previous breeding will also appear if their VWP date is prior to or within the next 60 days. The heifer s VWP date is always listed as the date to breed.

DHI Cows / Heifers to Preg Check: is dependent on the herd s pregnancy reporting (Option 62). If pregnancies are reported, cows (and heifers) appear on the report when the bred date plus days to check pregnant is within the next 30 days. Default days to check pregnant is 35 days. If pregnancies are not reported, cows (and heifers) appear on the report when bred less than 61 days. Cows (or heifers) coded cull will not be listed. Cows / Heifers to Calve: includes cows (or heifers) with existing due dates that reach their prep date in the next 60 days. For pregnancy reporting herds, the cow must also have a reproductive code of pregnant (or estimated pregnant). The prep date is the due date minus 21 days and is useful for herds with transition cow programs. Both due date and prep date are listed. NOTE: If Option 62 is on and herds do not consistently report pregnancies, all cows with due dates may not appear on the list. Cows to Dry: includes cows that are not currently coded dry that have a due date when the dry date falls within the next 30 days. For pregnancy reporting herds, the cow must also have a reproductive code of pregnant (or estimated pregnant). The DHI-205 also includes three additional lists to help identify cows needing attention: High SCC Cows: prints for sampled herds and includes cows with at least 4% contribution to the tank SCC and a raw SCC count of at least 200,000. Low Cows: includes cull cows or cows that are not dry or pregnant with 1) a production index less than 100 2) over 45 days in milk, and 3) test day milk less than herd average test day milk (milking cows). Fat / Protein Inversion: includes cows with test day protein % greater than fat %

22 Special Lists 517 Pocket Report Action List (Cows to Breed, Preg. Check, Calve, Turn Dry) is requested by inputting a four (4) for the form size under the 205 option. The 517 prints four reports on a letter-size paper that is perforated to tear into pocket-sized reports. Heifers are included if the herd is enrolled on Option 214 (Heifer Management).

DHI-205: Pocket Size, DHI Full Size 23 Full Size Lists Full Size Action Lists is requested by inputting a two (2) for the form size under the 205 option. These full size lists plus the DHI-205 pocket report can be requested by entering a three (3) for the form size. Full size lists include Cows to Breed, Preg. Check, Calve, and Turn Dry in a full size version which offers more data for each cow. Rules that determine which cows appear on the lists are the same as those documented on the previous pages for the DHI-205 lists. As with the 205 or 517, heifers appear on these lists only if the herd is enrolled on Option 214 (Heifer Management). Cost for the full size lists is the same as the pocket size lists: 2 per cow per test for first special list selected and 1 per cow per test for each additional special list. The full size lists are best suited for herds that want to supplement their pocket size action lists; herds that want full size rather than pocket size action lists; producers who like to make notes on the list. 501 To Breed (Cows Open) prints open cows, including cows bred but confirmed open (N in REPRO code). The number of days reported for Herd Option 17 (Days Before 1st Breeding or VWP (Voluntary Waiting Period) is used to calculate the date in the column 60TH DAY. Cows are listed in four categories: open over 130 days, open 101 to 130 days, open VWP to 100 days and open less than VWP days. Space is available to record service sire and date. 502 Cows To Preg Check (Not Diagnosed Pregnant) lists either all cows bred in the last 60 days if routine pregnancy checks are not done, or all cows bred but not diagnosed pregnant. Option 62 determines which list is received (see page 6). Cows are categorized as Open >100 days or < 100 days. If the herd receives the DHI-214 option and inputs breeding dates for heifers, this information will be listed as well. The available space may be used to record heat dates, new breeding dates or pregnancy verification.

24 Special Lists 504 Cows Due to Calve lists cows due to calve in the next 60 days. If the herd is receiving the DHI-214 Heifer Management List and inputting reproductive information for heifers, heifers due to calve in the next 60 days will also be listed (designated with H ). 505 Cows To Turn Dry - lists cows that should be dried off during the next 60 days. The Date To Dry is computed based on the number reported as Days to Stand Dry (option 15). Somatic Cell Count data is listed for each cow for herds receiving SCC results. 507 Dry Cow List - this option lists all the dry cows in the herd in index or barn name order and indicates which cows have been dry more than 70 days. This listing only comes in a pocket size. Cost for options 205 (pocket), (full), 517 (pocket), and 507 (pocket), is 2 per cow for the first option selected, and 1 per cow per test for each additional option.

Special Lists: DHI-504, 505, 507, Pocket Report / Action List provides a checkbook size list of all cows in the herd with fresh date, bred date, reproduction code, Times Bred (Xs), % Relative Value (%RV) and fat corrected milk (FCM) for each cow. The list can be in cow number or barn name order. After the listing of all cows, the following lists are provided and can be ordered by Cow ID (name or number) or by date: Cows to Calve, Cows to Breed, Cows to Preg Check, and Cows to Dry Off. Cost is 3 per cow.

26 Special Lists 508 Cows By Test Day Milk lists all milking cows in the herd in descending order by test day milk production. Total ration requirements for % crude protein and % TDN are listed for each individual cow based on NRC recommendations. When estimating for low producing cows, milk production is adjusted to herd average for first lactation cows and herd average plus 20% for older cows. This report is useful when dividing the herd into feeding groups and when identifying low producing cows. A Production Profile is also provided that indicates the number of cows, percent of herd estimated dry matter, % crude protein and % TDN by production levels. 509 Milking Cows: Cow ID Order lists all milking cows in index number or barn name order. Like the DHI-508, the total ration requirements for % crude protein and % TDN are listed for each cow. This report is intended as a reference sheet for use in the milking barn. 510 Culling Guide lists potentially low profit cows. Projected Relative Profit (PRP) predicts each cow s income over feed cost for the remainder of the current 305 day lactation, a nonproductive dry period and the following 305 day lactation. Projected milk production for the following lactation is based upon the current 305 day lactation. The length of time to the beginning of the next lactation is based upon due date. Cows are included in this listing when their current test day production is below a value that is 60% of the herd average. Cows are ranked by Projected Relative Profit with low profit cows listed first. This list identifies either cows which are low producing or cows that do not promptly re-breed (which would lengthen the current lactation and possibly lengthen the nonproductive dry period). HENRY SMITH HENRY SMITH HENRY SMITH

DHI-508, 509, 510, 513, Cows By Sire Groups lists daughters with their production information for each sire used in the herd. Cows are ranked by their most recent ERPA for milk within each sire group. Daughter production averages and USDA Sire Summary information offer an opportunity to compare daughter groups. A herd summary compares the weighted average Predicted Transmitting Ability (PTA) values of proven sires of first lactation cows with 2nd and later lactation cows. The summary also indicates the percentage of the herd sired by bulls with PTA s. This option must have a Y entered each time it is needed. 514 Cows By Service Sire categorizes cows according to their most recent service sire. Cows are printed in index order within each sire group. The service sire s most recent USDA Sire Summary information is printed with each group. A summary of the herd s service sires PTA Milk and PTA Fat offers a method to track the improvement in service sire genetic merit. This option must have a Y entered each time it is needed. Cost for the DHI- 508, 509, 510, 513 and 514 reports is 2 per cow for the first option, and 1 per cow for each additional option.

28 Special Lists 515 Annual Cow Inventory lists three groups of cows as of the end of the designated fiscal year. The first group lists all cows which have entered the herd. The second group is a complete list of all cows that are currently in the herd. The third group contains cows which have left the herd during the last fiscal year. The list includes each cow s identity, date of birth, date entered herd, date last fresh, most recent status and date, and the date and reason for leaving if no longer in the herd. The inventory can be useful when preparing tax returns. The fiscal year end date (month and day) must be entered when the technician requests this report. Cost is $5.00, billed the month the list is printed.

DHI-515, 518, Pocket List All Cows with Production prints a pocket sized list of all cows with production information which includes: Cow Index and Barn Name Concentrates Fed if on option 71, Reproduction Code Current test day milk Pounds of milk for the current lactation % Fat Somatic Cell Count Actual or Linear Score A plastic binder is provided the first month the report is requested. Cost is 1 per cow. 519 Pocket List All Cows with Reproduction lists all cows in the herd in a pocket (checkbook size) report. A plastic binder to insert the report after it is stapled and folded is provided the first test this report is requested. Option 60 (Cow Identity) determines if the cow index or cow barn name is printed. Reproduction information includes: DIM (days in milk) Milk (current test day milk) Cur SCC (current SCC as linear score) % RV (cow s ME value divided by the herd average ME value and expressed as a percent) Date Bred Mgmt Date (upcoming date to Calve, Breed, Dry or Preg Check). This option is best suited for any herd wanting a list with current performance in pocket and/or herds getting the DHI-205 (Pocket Action List) that also want a list of all cows. Cost is 1 per cow.

The ERPA List ranks cows according to the superiority or inferiority of a cow s producing ability compared to herdmates. All lactation records for a cow are used in calculations and the accuracy of ERPA increases with more records. Spring calculations and/or fall calculations can be received on the first test after April or November. Cost is 3 per cow per run, billed the month that the list is printed.

32 Management Lists 207 Herd Average History includes year-end information for all years the herd has been enrolled in DHI testing. The report is mailed in November. Cost is $3.00 per year. 208 Wall Chart is printed on 11"x17" cardstock and is intended to be placed on the wall for easy recording of individual cow reproduction information. The cow's barn name, index number, and registration or RFID is provided along with birth date, calving date and sire ID. To enroll on this option using PCDART, the technician must go to Test Day / Handling Instructions and enter a message. Cost is $5 per test.

DHI-207, 208, 209, Annual Heifer List lists all identified heifers born into the herd during the last 24 months. Two listings are organized by date of birth, and by sire group. It is printed once a year. The month in which this option is printed is different depending on your DHI Service Affiliate. Call your DHIA office or DRMS to find out when your list would be printed. Cost is ½ per cow. 214 Heifer Management provides a listing of all heifers with identity information, age, estimated transmitting ability, and breeding information, and a calf management summary. Heifers with reported breeding dates will appear on the special management lists Cows Open and Cows to Calve (DHI-205, 517, 502, 504). When requesting the 214, the age to breed heifers can be entered (default is 14 months). Heifers can be listed in date of birth order or by calf name.

34 Management Lists 215 Heifer Management Worksheet is also available for herds that get barnsheets (DHI-201 or 401) so test day information can be written down. 216 Calf Management Summary is also produced with the DHI-214. It summarizes calves by age, genetic evaluation, reproductive efficiency and calves that have left the herd. Cost for reports is 3 per cow.

DHI-215, 216, 217, Herd Progress provides a monthly comparison of key herd performance data for up to two years. It also provides yearly averages similar to the DHI-207. Cost for this report is $2 per test. 230 Peak & Persistency groups cows by month calved and lists lactation number, fresh date, last 11 test weights of current lactation, current persistency, days in milk, due data and pregnancy confirmation. Each group has separate averages for first lactation and for all other cows. Cost is 1 per cow.

36 Management Lists 231 Persistency Analysis groups calvings by test period, then averages the lactation data in a manner that allows for more immediate identification of persistency problems. The report is most useful to herds that test on a monthly basis. Cost is $3 per test. Although first lactation cows peak lower than older cows, we expect them to be more persistent. These differences make it imperative to analyze persistency differently for 1st lactation cows compared to later lactation cows. Cows that calved during the current test period are summarized in the rightmost column. They have had only one test day and will have no persistency measure. The report does show how many cows calved ( # Fresh row) and the number remaining ( Current row) as of the current test day. The first column represents cows that calved in the oldest calving period summarized - as many as 12 test periods ago. The second column represents cows that calved in the next oldest period, and so on. For cows that calved in the same test period, the report displays their average milk for each test day and the persistency for that test day (if the difference from the predicted standard curve is at least 5+ percent). Reading down a column illustrates production and persistency for cows that calved in the same period. Each milk or persistency change may represent different cow numbers depending on when cows left. Reading across a row illustrates production and persistency values across similar stages of lactation over time. Bold numbers at the bottom of each column allow comparisons of performance on the current test day.

DHI-231, Survival Analysis - This four-page optional report provides a comprehensive analysis of herd turnover patterns. You can easily determine when and how turnover occurs to help improve culling decisions and prevent involuntary culling. Note that cows sold for dairy purposes are excluded from counts of left cows for this report, but are denoted under reasons left (page 4). Cost is 3 per cow with a maximum charge of $20. Survival Chart (page 1): Cows are separated by lactation (1st and 2+) and are grouped by month of calving. At the top of each column, percent of cows leaving by 30 DIM (days in milk) and 60 DIM are listed for each cohort. Cows remaining in the herd are listed within cohort by DIM. Rolling Left by 30 or 60 Day % (at lower right) are calculated using all cows in the last 365 days. Use this chart to identify season and crowding issues that affect culling behavior. Note that cohorts are grouped by calving month rather than test interval for this report. Survival Curve (page 2): The Kaplan-Meier method is used to generate a survival curve for cows survived divided by the total calved in the last 12 months. Four curves represent lactation 1 (yellow), lactation 2 (green), lactation 3+ (blue), and all cows (black). The curves more accurately represent the fraction of cows remaining in the herd by DIM. Losses incurred prior to the final observed outcome (360 DIM) are accounted for by censoring data. Only surviving cows are still being observed and are at risk to leave. Surviving cows are censored if left for dairy or by DIM (i.e., if DIM = 30, the cow is excluded from the total population and survived cows in calculations when DIM > 30). Population totals for cows calved are found in the survival chart.

38 Management Lists Bar Graph (page 3): All cows leaving the herd in the last 12 months are displayed as a percentage of the total cows in the herd by DIM and lactation group (cow numbers can be found the Reasons Left chart). Population in this graph is based on the rolling yearly average number of cows in the herd. Bars exceeding 2% in any range indicate excessive turnover; however, turnover is expected to increase for cows in late lactation. Reasons Left (page 4): This final chart displays cows left in the last 12 months by primary reason. Again, data are displayed by DIM and lactation group to accurately express when herd turnover occurred. In addition, total cows dry prior to leaving are listed for each reason. Test day and rolling average numbers of cows are also listed on this page. Rolling 30 and 60 day % left are calculated for the entire herd.

DHI-232, DHI USDA Cow PTA provides a list of all cows in the herd with their most recent USDA PTA (Predicted Transmitting Ability) for milk, fat, protein and dollars ($). This report is printed after the USDA sire run in February, May, August and November. It is mailed to the farm separately as soon as the information is available from USDA. Cost is $5.00 per run.

40 Management Lists 350 Reproduction Management Report provides a quick and effective focus on reproductive data for each cow AND a comprehensive herd reproductive summary, all in one report. Manage individual cows throughout the month with the cow list. Assess reproductive performance with the summary (printed after the cow list). Cost is 1 per cow.

DHI-350, 355, Heat Interval provides an analysis of estrus patterns that will reveal problems in the actual reproductive cycles of individuals cows or problems in the ability to detect and record heats and breedings at the farm. This report is best suited for smaller herds (less than 250 cows) and herds seeking to resolve reproductive problems. Cost is $2 per test. 360 Reproduction Report addresses the reproductive status of each cow. It includes each animal s sire and most recent service sire information. Last year s calving pattern and reproductive cycles by month are summarized. In addition, the report draws attention to cows in the herd with the highest number of days open. Cost is 1 per cow.

42 Management Lists 403 Transition Cow Management Report helps identify opportunities for improving management of the transition period - from dry date to 40 days after calving. Successful management of this period enables cows to begin lactations ready to meet or exceed their genetic capabilities. The report provides analysis of seven management monitors for the transition period: dry periods, first milk weigh, fat to protein ratio, udder health, reproduction, turnover and distressed cows. In addition to a graph, a list of distressed cows is also provided highlighting the reason why the cow is considered distressed. There is also an overview graph showing the yearly average for each monitor. Goals for each monitor are set at the success level achieved by the top 10% of herds similar in size to this herd. This goal is shown by the purple bar on each graph. Although goals differ for each management area, a tall bar on the graph is better than a short bar. The DHI-403 is best suited for herds that want to closely examine the transition period to be sure cows and heifers are reaching their full potential in the milking herd. Cost is 3 per cow with a maximum charge of $20. Page 1 - explanation of report parameters and overview graph showing the yearly average for each management monitor. The number of cows calved over the past year is also listed.

DHI Pages 2 and 3 showing graphs for Dry Periods, First Milk, Fat Protein Ratio and Udder Health

44 Management Lists Pages 4 and 5 with graphs for Reproduction, Turnover and Distressed Cows. Page 6 lists individual distressed cows and highlights the reason the cow is considered distressed.

DHI-403, 404, Test Day Group Summary provides an overview of the current test s production and reproduction data for each group. Data listed for each group includes: test day data for milk, fat, protein and SCC; number fresh, entered, left since last test (with reason left) and dry; average days in milk; and number and percent bred as well as number and percent pregnant. The report is best suited for herds than manage cows in groups. Cost is $3 per test. 530 Herd Management Comparison provides an opportunity to compare your herd averages with industry recognized goals, with breed averages, and with your herd averages one year ago. Comparisons are useful when setting goals and monitoring progress of management parameters. Breed averages are the state averages for Holstein and Jersey herds when there are a minimum of 10 herds of the breed that are processed by DRMS. When there is not a minimum of 10 herds in the state for Holstein or Jersey herds and for all breeds other than Holstein and Jersey, the DRMS average for the region will be printed. Permanent strings with official string averages will be treated as a herd of their respective breed and receive a DHI-530. The report is printed in January and July. If a herd enrolled on the option does not process in either of these months, the report will print on the first occurring test after the target month. Cost is $3 per herd per printing.

46 Management Lists 535 Herd Event Calendar organizes critical management tasks for 6 weeks in an easy-to-use calendar format. The calendar uses each cow s status code, days in milk, bred or heat dates, and your herd parameters for waiting period, dry period, routine pregnancy diagnosis, and number of days before pregnancy check. It provides records, a calendar and a specific to do list. Events listed include: To Dry - cow is ready to turn dry based on her expected calving date and the length of your specified dry period; Lead Feed -dry cow is 14 days from her expected calving date; ration can be changed to prepare for return to milking herd; To Calve - cow s expected calving date based on last breeding date; Can Breed - cow has reached the end of the voluntary waiting period after calving for your herd; Preg Check - cow is eligible to check for pregnancy if your herd option is specified as being on routine pregnancy check ( Routine Preg Check = Y ), If your herd is not on this option ( Routine Preg Check = N ), the cow has been bred 45 days; 21 Day Heat - it has been 21 days since this cow s last breeding; may show heat; 42 Day Heat - it has been 42 days since this cow s last breeding; may show heat. Cost is 1 per cow.

DHI-535, 550, Body Condition Score lists each cow in the herd with all body condition scores for the current lactation plus the score at dry-off for the previous lactation. 551 Body Condition Score Summary is printed with the 550 report. It provides a summary by lactation grouping which helps with the analysis of condition scores. Cost for both reports is 2 per cow.
