In that time over 150,000 pounds of Ag plastic have been collected through the spring and fall collections. Last summer 14 Green County farms participated in a pilot program that included receiving a free dumpster and onfarm pick up of their used ag plastic film. The success of the first pilot led to an expanded pilot of placing 8 cubic yard dumpsters on an additional 74 farms in Green, Lafayette, Dane and Stephenson Counties in the fall of The expanded pilot program also proved to be successful with over 250,000 pounds of plastic being collected and recycled from the 88 pilot farms since last summer. The success of the program has resulted in more options for disposing of used plastic from bale wraps, silo bags and bunker covers for Green County and area farmers. The Ag plastic recycling program has grown to the point that the Green County Landfill is currently baling Ag plastic every Wednesday and the annual spring and fall county collections have been eliminated. Now area farmers can bring in their used Ag plastic films to the Green County Landfill every Wednesday from 7 AM - 3 PM. This program is also open to farmers from surrounding counties who wish to dispose of their used Ag plastic free of charge. See the back of this page for more details. Green County area farmers also now have the option of signing up for a free dumpster and on farm pick-up of Ag plastics directly with Revolution Plastics. Previously farms needed to have 100 cows or more to get on the waiting list for a free dumpster. However, Revolution Plastics has now agreed to allow neighboring farmers to pool their herds together and they will deliver a dumpster to one of the farms to be shared by both. For example, if two neighboring farms with 60 cows each agree to share a dumpster they can pool their cow numbers together to meet the 100 cow minimum as long as they are will to share a dumpster. Revolution Plastics is planning to purchase 100 more dumpsters and distribute them to more farms this spring. Farms closer to Green County and with more than 100 cows will be given first preference for receiving the next batch of dumpsters. To get on the waiting list you can either call Revolution Plastics directly at: or fill out a short application at their website at: For more information about the Green County Ag Plastic Collection Program contact Mark Mayer, Green County UW-Extension Agriculture Agent at or mark.mayer@ces.uwex.edu
