4 INTRODUCTION The Company s principal business activity is in the cultivation & processing of Backhousia citriodora (Lemon Myrtle), an Australian native tree, the world s richest known source of citral, in a sustainable manner. Currently, Qzen has orchards in Sekinchan, Kluang, Kuala Linggi & a commercial quarantine nursery in Hulu Langat. Qzen possesses internationally experienced staff with considerable knowledge in the plantation management, horticulture, agronomy, plant breeding, & micropropagation. Through our own R&D facilities we have developed new and improved plant material as well as improved crop husbandry practices.

5 BACKGROUND Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia citriodora) An Australian native rainforest tree Commercially grown largely in Queensland & the North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. The aroma & taste of Lemon myrtle is similar to a blend of lemon, lemongrass & lime. Lemon myrtle contains one of the most important essential oil constituents called citral. The World s richest known natural source of citral (90%-98%). Application is in food flavouring, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical & body care products. 5

8 PRODUCTION DATA (ESSENTIAL OIL) The leaves of Lemon Myrtle trees are harvested & distilled to recover the essential oil. Lemon myrtle essential oil are widely traded to make various products such as perfume, shampoos, handwash, toothpastes, & cleaning chemical. 39 CONCLUSION AND WAY FORWARD Lemon Myrtle is emerging as a new crop & would allow the Malaysian agricultural industry to diversify. Will provide employment & income generation to the agricultural, pharmaceutical and food sectors. Lemon Myrtle has the potential to significantly contribute towards the growth of the Malaysian and ASEAN BioEconomy
