Irrigation Australia is a registered training organisation (RTO) under the name Irrigation Training Australia, providing the industry with nationally accredited training and qualifications. BLEDNED LEARNING PROGRAM Irrigation Australia s tailored training program delivers a blended learning experience from which, at the successful completion, candidates are awarded the Nationally Accredited Qualification Certificate III in Irrigation WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR This course is designed for anyone with a minimum of three-months experience working in the irrigation industry who is looking at enriching their knowledge and expertise with the latest innovations and most advanced irrigation techniques. CAREER PATHWAY: Progress towards Certified Irrigation Professional Progress towards Certificate IV or Diploma in Irrigation COMPETENCIES This training program requires the students to undertake further homework, projects and assessments outside of the face to face training school to satisfy the requirements of each competency. 5 CENTRE PIVOT LATERAL MOVE WORKSHOP OVERVIEW A two-day workshop designed to provide students with the latest techniques and innovations of centre pivot and lateral move irrigation systems. CPLM technology is growing very fast and is providing growers with much greater control over their irrigation management as well as much more efficient ways to use water, reduce labor and control soil moisture. WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR This course is designed for anyone looking at installing, maintaining and or using a centre pivot or lateral move system. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Identify the key components of centre pivot and lateral move (CPLM) system Identify the financial issues associated with the purchase and operation of a CPLM List the factors necessary for planning to install a centre pivot or lateral mo ve Compare sprinkler and wheel options to improve operation of a CPLM system Identify key measures and indicators of CPLM system performance Identify sprinkler package issues Learn how to use CPLM systems effectively & efficiently Understand the basic maintenance requirements of your CPLM systems. 5

6 METER VALIDATION AND INSTALLATION WORKSHOP OVERVIEW Designed to provide students with all the knowledge of the Australian standards and procedures needed to safely and successfully install water meters in rural environments. The course prepares students to complete site preparations and commissioning along with field assessments for meter installations. The course is delivered over two days providing students with two units of units of competencies against Certification of Meter Installation and Validation. Alternatively, you can sit the three day course and cover all six units required to meet Irrigation Australia Certification of Meter Installation and Validation qualification. OPTION ONE - TWO DAYS TRAINING Complete the theoretical Part for 2 Units of Competency: NWPIRR014 Install meters for rural water supplies NWPIRR022 Maintain meters for rural water supplies Complete the practical component on your own and submit assessment OPTION TWO - THREE DAYS TRAINING Complete the theoretical components for all 6 units of competency BSBWHS201 Contribute to health and safety of self and others NWPGEN003 Apply the environmental and licensing procedures of the water industry NWPNET002 Prepare and restore worksite NWPNET011 Locate, identify and protect utilities NWPIRR014 Install meters for rural water supplies NWPIRR022 Maintain meters for rural water supplies Submit workbook assessments and complete practical components to achieve your statement of attainment for the 6 units REFRESHER ONE DAY For certified irrigation installers and validators who wish to renew their certification after letting it lapse or who have not renewed. After successful completion Irrigation Australia will renew your certification for two years. The course provides 10 CPD points required to renew your certification 6

7 WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR This course is designed for anyone responsible for installing and validating water meters in a rural environment against the Australian Standards. The course is a great opportunity for those wanting to apply to become Certified Meter Installers and Validators through IAL National Certification program. LEARNING OUTCOMES WHS relevant to operators in the water industry Identifying and applying procedures according to risks and impacts on environment Requirements for site preparation, construction work and restoring site to required condition Procedures for working near utility services during construction, repair or installation of infrastructure New Australian Standards for Control of Rural Water Meter Installation and Validation Explanation of the Pattern Approval process for meter manufacturers and what installers need to know when validating installations Site preparation, component installation, site reinstatement and commissioning Field assessment of meter installations COMPETENCIES After the successful completion of the specific course based assignments, which include a written workshop assessment, supervising an actual meter installation and providing a written journal of the installation with related images, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for 2 or 6 of the units of competencies depending on the course undertaken. 7

8 INTRODUCTION TO IRRIGATION AGRICULTURE WORKSHOP OVERVIEW Over 54% of the water consumption in Australia is used in agriculture and with the increasing scarcity of water, the industry has to find ways to improve water efficiency. This is a two-day course designed by Irrigation Australia in partnership with leading suppliers to help provide students with basic understanding of the principles of irrigation in the agriculture and horticulture industry. WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR This course is designed for anyone who is interested in becoming an irrigation professional within the agriculture industry. It is suited for people from government departments, irrigation companies, regulatory bodies, funding bodies, water management authorities, and catchment management bodies. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Overview of the irrigation industry segments Understanding the agriculture irrigation industry and the issues facing it in Australia Awareness of the main types of irrigation systems used in Australia and their advantages and disadvantages Summary figures for the value of irrigated agriculture in Australia An outline of the key elements of irrigation practice and management An appreciation of land and water planning on irrigation farms A synopsis of the main sources of water for irrigation An outline of the complexities of allocation and administration of water entitlements Awareness of the issues involved in physical water measurement and accounting An understanding of the concept of water use efficiency as it applies to irrigation Understanding irrigation efficiency techniques and standards 8

9 INTRODUCTION TO IRRIGATION URBAN WORKSHOP OVERVIEW The urban water sector is diverse and is concerned about providing and utlising water for household and commercial users including parks, sports fields, golf courses and developments. This is a two-day course designed by Irrigation Australia in partnership with leading suppliers to help provide students with basic understanding of the principles of irrigation in the urban sector including planning, procuring and supplying water to households and commercial users. WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR A short course to assist in the education and training of newcomers to the irrigation industry. Industry experts will guide participants towards a basic understanding of the principles of irrigation to help them perform their job more effectively and to develop as professionals in the irrigation industry. LEARNING OUTCOMES Overview of the irrigation industry segments Introduction to the variety of water sources Identifying the major irrigation industries & government agencies Identifying various factors affecting plant water use Learning the relationship between soil, plant & water Introduction to urban irrigation products Knowledge of the different irrigation components, terms & units 9

10 IRRIGATION PUMPS AND SYSTEMS WORKSHOP OVERVIEW A two-day course designed to cover the process of operating and maintaining irrigation pumping systems and defines the standard required to select pumps and pumping equipment to meet design requirements, install and test pumps, develop procedures to maintain pumping systems, commission and test the pumping system, and carry out troubleshooting. WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR This course is designed for anyone involved in irrigation installation, including site managers and managers of irrigation systems. LEARNING OUTCOMES Determining system requirements Types of irrigation systems Irrigation and pumping system requirements Hydraulics of irrigation systems including friction calculations Understanding pump curves Cavitation and NPSH Pump selection Control and protection systems Installation and commissioning of irrigation pumps Maintenance and troubleshooting of irrigation pumps Testing pump performance COMPETENCIES Upon successful completion of activities in this workshop participants will be issued with a statement of attainment for the nationally recognised competency AHCIRG410 Select and Manage Pumping Systems for Irrigation. 10

11 IRRIGATION EFFICIENCY WORKSHOP OVERVIEW A two-day course designed to provide students with the knowledge of irrigation efficiency techniques, requirements and standards to design, operate and maintain an efficient irrigation system. WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR This course is designed for anyone involved in irrigation installation, including site managers and managers of irrigation systems. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Gathering irrigation water-use data Testing landscape sprinkler irrigation systems Compiling water records Basic irrigation scheduling Determining irrigation water requirements Basic system trouble shooting Developing system maintenance strategies Checking pressure and flow rates Conducting a water application distribution test Collecting data to determine irrigation uniformity and efficiency Assessing soil texture and root zone depths COMPETENCIES This training course delivers the following 3 units of competency, however, participants can only acquire these by completing the workbook activities outside of the workshop and then forwarding the workbook to IAL for assessment.
