2 Introduction To ensure food safety, action is needed first at the farm level during animal production. Food inspection and control is considered an important tool that ensures food safety and conformity with specifications and its fitness for human consumption. The food control system within the Sultanate is composed of many complementary government authorities having the authority to inspect various phases of food processing and handling to achieve food security and distribution of good quality food products. 2

10 Action of Veterinary Services in terms of food safety Surveillance at all stages of animal production. The Veterinary Services help to reduce risks to animal health and public health by conducting on-farm controls. Vaccination of animal is principally the task of the national Veterinary Services. They also carry out ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections,, to verify the health of the animals. The application of standards and recommendations of relevant international organizations (WTO and OIE) in the quarantine procedures on incoming and outgoing consignments without compromising the health and safety and protection of human and animal health. Before importing any consignment of animal products need to obtain a permit from the Veterinary Services.

Ministry of Fisheries Cont. In the form of quality control center witch is a research and regulatory oversight of the quality of Omani fish.

14 How to improve the situation Work to establish Animal identification and traceability system. Work to establish "an" independent national body" " handle all aspects of safety and quality of food in order to ensure unity of effort and strengthen the monitoring system on food and ensure safety and protect public health. Stress the importance of developing and strengthening legislative structure in line with the contents of international conventions Rehabilitation of national laboratories and the development of laboratory services in accordance with the global systems to ensure they obtain a "certificate of International Accreditation. Building national capacity in terms of training and rehabilitation of staff in the field of food safety and quality
