4 HOW AGRONOMIC KNOWLEDGE IMPROVES PRODUCT PERFORMANCE Excellent genetics are important, but top performance requires more than just planting last year s plot winner. Successful placement and management of corn hybrids and soybean varieties is absolutely critical to achieving top-end yields. Agronomic know-how is at the core of the Golden Harvest team, from our breeders to local independent Seed Advisors. To help you maximize product performance across different environments, we begin with our Core Equation, which considers Soils, Genetics, Management and Environment, and examine how these factors interact with Golden Harvest products. Thoroughly understanding these four elements, along with knowledge about Golden Harvest Corn and Soybean products, will guide a sound seed recommendation for maximum performance on each field. 2 To order, contact your local Seed Advisor or call or visit GoldenHarvestSeeds.com

5 PRODUCT PLACEMENT SOILS GENETICS The starting point for a good field recommendation is understanding its soil. Five key metrics about a soil help determine product fit: Soil type or texture based on percentage of mineral particles such as sand, silt or clay, which impacts drainage, aeration and availability of nutrients ph a measure of soil acidity/alkalinity, which affects availability of plant nutrients Drainage result of various factors influencing water-holding capacity Cation exchange capacity (CEC) measure of the soil s ability to hold/release water and nutrients Organic matter increases nutrient/waterholding capacity Fertility measure of nutrient content and availability Understanding the genetic characteristics of a product and its key agronomic attributes is the second key part of successful product placement, including: Heterotic background a hybrid s genetic background can indicate tendencies and some characteristic strengths and weaknesses Ear type some ear types can reduce risk across different soil types and in different temperature and water-driven environments Root type different root types perform better in certain soils and environments Plant type particular plant types perform better in different populations and can mitigate risk in situations where heat, water, canopy and weed control may be limiting factors Disease tolerance hybrids vary in disease tolerance, but management and environment are also contributing factors Emergence/vigor hybrids vary in emergence strength and can be impacted by both management and environment ROOTED IN GENETICS, AGRONOMY & SERVICE 3

6 MANAGEMENT ENVIRONMENT Crop management includes many practices that can vary by area. Consider the following six key management practices when positioning a product, and also look at other products which provide complemetary options to further reduce risk: Planting population performance can be impacted positively or negatively by population Nitrogen application hybrids vary in response to nitrogen Crop rotation considerations based on previous crop can include emergence and pest issues Response to fungicide consideration for risk of fungal diseases Yield environment additional management inputs can affect yield Complementary seed options spread risk by selecting diverse hybrids and varieties The final element of successful product postioning includes the most unknown and uncontrollable variables. The environment changes by geography, field and season. Key considerations here include: Drought tolerance performance under water stress Weather conditions impact of temperature, precipitation and moisture on performance Yield environment range of typical yield expectations for a field Geographical fit relative maturity is a key part of local fit With access to local trial and yield data, state-ofthe-art placement tools and in-depth knowledge of the key attributes driving performance, your local independent Seed Advisor is well-equipped to recommend hybrids and varieties that will thrive in each field. 15 CORN Last June was such a dry month that my growing season was on the brink of disaster, but I yielded 190 bu/a with one of my Golden Harvest Corn hybrids, which is well above average in my area. Even with the stress environment we had early on, my Golden Harvest hybrid emerged quickly, had early-season vigor and, once it came out of the ground, kept on growing. 20 ETHANOL Demand is Growing Golden Harvest is proud to offer a unique product to you in the form of Enogen hybrids. These hybrids feature an in-seed innovation that benefits farmers marketing grain to participating ethanol plants, as well as producing grain for livestock feed. ENOGEN: HELPING TO MAKE CORN FARMERS MORE SUCCESSFUL Enogen corn helps to enhance ethanol production and make ethanol even more sustainable. Available through independent Seed Advisors, Enogen hybrids enable you to become an enzyme supplier for your local ethanol plant and add value to your crop. We are working with a growing number of ethanol plants to expand the market opportunity. By the end of 2017, we anticipate more than 200 million bushels of Enogen corn will have been grown on more than 1 million acres and contributed to nearly 4.5 billion gallons of ethanol produced. Enogen hybrids also perform equal to or better than other high-performing corn hybrids, as demonstrated in a number of trials, giving you more options with the same great yields. 1 What sets Enogen corn apart from other technologies is that it is designed to enhance ethanol production, which in turn adds incremental value to farmers and rural communities. All Enogen farmers combined are expected to earn a total premium of approximately $32 million in 2017, creating real advantages for corn producers and rural economies. To grow Enogen corn, you can use your existing cultural farming practices, including nutrient, insect and disease management programs. Enogen farmers are required to follow specific, yet reasonable stewardship requirements that include the planting of non-enogen border rows around an Enogen corn field, planter and combine cleanout, and dedicating bin space for all Enogen grain. We are committed to helping corn farmers and ethanol producers be more successful and making the benefits of ethanol more broadly available to consumers. 1 Syngenta production data from over 700,000 contracted acres, The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports that approximately 40 percent of the U.S. corn crop is used in ethanol production. Enogen corn enzyme technology helps to enhance ethanol production and can help make home-grown American ethanol even more sustainable. Because Enogen corn hybrids contain the alpha-amylase enzyme directly in the grain, Enogen farmers can become enzyme suppliers for your local plant, increasing the value of your crop and improving profit potential. Visit Enogen.com to learn about how you can become an enzyme supplier. 18 For more information, visit Enogen.com or call 877-4ENOGEN ( ).

21 HYBRIDS THAT ENERGIZE YOUR FEED RATION When growing corn to be fed on-farm for a beef or dairy operation, selecting a hybrid that provides value in the field and in your feed ration is a simple way to improve profit potential. Unique Enogen Feed hybrids do just that, offering proven genetics and strong agronomic characteristics, plus a step-change in the way starch and sugar are processed during digestion, providing more available energy to beef and dairy cattle. Enogen Feed hybrids offer excellent yield potential and quality across a variety of soil types and conditions, on top of strong agronomics such as standability and disease tolerance. There are no additional agronomic management practices required, unlike other highly managed silage hybrids. Additionally, Enogen Feed hybrids offer the flexibility to harvest for grain or chop for silage, and perform equal to or better than non-enogen corn hybrids. 1 Incorporating Enogen Feed hybrids in your operation is as easy as replacing the corn you currently grow and feed, and allows you to unlock the energy potential of your feed ration. Energy is key to maximizing production, and corn is an important energy source because it supplies starch, which is converted to sugar during digestion. Enogen Feed corn, fed as grain or silage, helps convert starch to sugar more efficiently and more rapidly during the digestive process, resulting in enhanced digestibility and more readily available energy. Enogen Feed corn is a high-value output product that must be grown as an identity preserved crop and fed on-farm only. Farmers must adhere to all applicable stewardship requirements, and sign and comply with an Enogen contract. 1 Syngenta production data from over 350,000 Enogen acres, For more information about Enogen or Enogen Feed corn hybrids, contact your independent Golden Harvest Seed Advisor. 35 STEWARDSHIP PROTECT AND PRESERVE TRAIT STACK* MINIMUM REFUGE REQUIREMENT (CORN-GROWING REGION) MINIMUM REFUGE REQUIREMENT (COTTON-GROWING REGION) A strong stewardship program is essential for protecting and preserving the long-term value of insect-protected trait technology. Syngenta provides responsible programs and information regarding the appropriate crop production, handling and marketing practices. 20% 50% 20% STEWARDSHIP REQUIREMENTS Read and understand the stewardship requirements found in the Syngenta Stewardship Guide, including applicable refuge requirements when planting insect protected traits as set forth in the Syngenta stewardship/ technology agreement that you sign. To sign an agreement or view recommended planting configurations, please visit SyngentaStewardship.com or contact the Syngenta stewardship team: By opening and using a bag of seed, you are reaffirming your obligation to comply with those stewardship requirements. BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES The agricultural industry has learned that, in addition to planting a refuge, a sound Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy is needed to prevent Corn Rootworm (CRW) resistance. For more information on how you can implement Best Management Practices (BMPs) on your farm, including crop and trait rotation, refer to the industry CRW BMPs located at the NCGA website, NCGA.com/CornRootworm E-Z Refuge no additional refuge required 20% supplemental refuge Refuge size is calculated by applying the appropriate percentage (e.g., 20%, 50%) to the TOTAL CORN ACRES. Calculator available to help farmers plan how to meet the minimum refuge requirements for each Bt corn product on their farm. Download at *Agrisure trait stacks may also be available as an Agrisure Artesian water optimized hybrid. The same modes of action and stewardship requirements are applicable. Consult bag tags for E-Z Refuge product herbicide options. Only those labeled EZ1 may be sprayed with glufosinate ammonium based herbicides, including Liberty herbicide. GRAIN MARKETING Farmers are encouraged to consult the Bio Trade Status website for the approval status of commercially available hybrids: BioTradeStatus.com. Talk to your grain handler prior to delivering crop so that it can be handled and marketed appropriately. Please contact your local seed representative with any questions. CORN REFUGE REQUIREMENTS It is important to recognize that different hybrid/trait packages may have different Insect Resistance Management (IRM) requirements. On-farm mixing of any seed is not an approved method to comply with stewardship requirements. ROOTED IN GENETICS, AGRONOMY & SERVICE 33
