1 National Hop Report ISSN: Released December 17, 2015, by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Agricultural Statistics Board, United s Department of Agriculture (USDA) Hop Production Up 11 Percent From Last Year Production for Idaho, Oregon, Washington in 2015 totaled 78.8 million pounds, up 11 percent from the 2014 crop of 71.0 million pounds. Production increased in all three s; 30 percent in Oregon, 26 percent in Idaho, 6 percent in Washington. Acreage increased in all three s; 22 percent in Oregon, 30 percent in Idaho, 11 percent in Washington. United s yield at 1,807 pounds per acre, decreased 61 pounds from a year ago. These are the highest acres harvested production on record in Idaho going back to 1944 the highest acres harvested on record in Washington going back to Washington growers produced 75 percent of the United s hop crop in Cascade, Zeus, Simcoe, Centennial, Columbus/Tomahawk, were the leading varieties in Washington, accounting for 52 percent of the s hop crop. In Oregon, Nugget Cascade were the major varieties, accounting for 47 percent of the s hop production. In Idaho, Zeus, Cascade, Chinook were the major varieties, accounting for 44 percent of the s hop production. The preliminary 2015 value of production of the United s hop crop is $345.4 million, up 33 percent from the revised 2014 value of $260.6 million. Record high prices received by growers at the United s Idaho Washington levels were realized in The increased value can be attributed to higher production hop production shifting from Alpha varieties to Aroma varieties that are higher in value. Increased dem from the craft brewing sector has also increased prices for hops. 6 Statistical Methodology Survey Procedures: Grower surveys are conducted in the three estimating s to collect acreage, yield, production data from growers. Additionally, contacts are made with each of the three Hop Commissions. Estimating Procedures: Information obtained from the hops growers surveys are used to establish estimates of hops. These estimates are reviewed for errors, reasonableness, consistency with historical estimates industry check data. Revision Policy: All hop estimates are subject to revision the following year based on a thorough review of all available data. Reliability: Survey results are subject to nonsampling errors such as omission, duplication, imputation for missing data, mistakes in reporting, recording, processing the data. These errors cannot be measured directly, but are minimized through rigid quality controls in the data collection process a careful review of all reported data for consistency reasonableness.
