Additional Yield Trial Data The following trials were carried out by BASF at Rawcliffe Bridge, Yorkshire in 2016 and It consists of 30 wheat varieties compared with 9 fungicide treatments. Rawcliffe Bridge is a high yielding site with good disease levels. Very high levels of yellow rust and Septoria tritici were recorded in 2016, and high levels of yellow rust in The following chart & graph shows a comparison of three different fungicide treatments used in These are untreated, low input (triazole plus multi-site) and high input (triazole plus multi-site plus 2 x SDHI). Optimising LG Sundance Variety Performance / page 5

BASF Trials Rawcliffe Bridge 2016 LG Sundance was the top yielding variety in untreated trials, and shows good performance in both the low input and high input fungicide regimes, showing greater flexibility for differing fungicide programmes. The value of good disease resistance should not be underestimated in seasons of high disease pressure. Optimising LG Sundance Variety Performance / page 6

BASF Trials Rawcliffe Bridge 2017 The BASF trial in 2017 consisted of 32 varieties across 9 treatments. The following chart and graph shows a comparison of three fungicide programmes used, similar to those used in the 2016 season. 8 BASF Trials Rawcliffe Bridge 2017 LG Sundance performed well again in 2017, showing that the variety responds well to both low and high inputs of fungicide chemistry in the absence of Septoria tritici. (The untreated yield is lower than expected but some lodging was present in the plot) High levels of yellow rust were seen at the site, demonstrated in the untreated yields of Reflection and JB Diego. 9 Limagrain Agronomy 2017 Variety v AHDB fungicide interaction Limagrain carry out internal trials with existing and new commercial varieties to evaluate fungicide response and yield potential with differing inputs. In 2017, the trial consisted of 14 varieties sprayed with the AHDB fungicide trial protocol that is used across all the RL and NL trials in the UK. To evaluate the varieties, Limagrain used the AHDB fungicide programme at full rate, half rate and quarter rate to really stretch the interaction of varieties in response to disease resistance and yield security. The AHDB fungicide programme is implemented for 100% control of disease infection to evaluate a varieties full yield potential. One could argue that this is not a commercial proposition on-farm, especially when the cost of the full programme well exceeds 200/ha AHDB Fungicide programme 2017 TO (GS 30) T1 (GS 32) T2 (GS 39-45) T3 (GS 55-61) Cyflamid l/ha Tracker l/ha Adexar l/ha Proline l/ha Cherokee l/ha Bravo l/ha Bravo 500-1l/ha Comet l/ha Talius l/ha Optimising LG Sundance Variety Performance / page 9

Limagrain Agronomy Ltd Variety v AHDB fungicide interaction H2017 The graph shows that LG Sundance has a very good untreated yield and that the variety is more adaptable regarding fungicide inputs, showing that at a quarter rate of the AHDB programme the variety shows no significant yield loss, compared with other less disease resistant lines in the trial. Limagrain are not suggesting cutting fungicide programmes considerably on LG Sundance, as we feel that genetics and chemistry should be used in synergy to ensure product longevity. Limagrain work suggests that disease resistance is not necessarily a reason to reduce fungicide inputs but it is a valuable security when fungicide timings are compromised due to erratic weather patterns, especially in seasons of high disease pressure. Optimising LG Sundance Variety Performance / page 10

Agronomic Features LG Sundance is a taller, large canopy variety with lodging ratings of 6 without PGR, and 7 with PGR was a difficult season for PGR applications, due to very dry regional weather patterns and the erratic uptake of chemistry, at targeted growth stages. LG consider the lodging rating of 7 with PGR to be correct and is similar to many competitor varieties on both the hard and soft AHDB RL 2018/19 variety tables. LG Sundance is a later maturing variety (+2), requiring a good T3 to maintain green leaf canopy for maximum grain fill development. 12 Limagrain PGR Trials 2017 LG carried out trials in 2016 and 2017 looking at single vs. split PGR programmes against an untreated control. The results agreed with all work we have done in the past. Split PGR programmes do ensure reduced lodging and consequently, higher yield potential, with the added benefit of an easier harvest. The table below shows the PGR programme used in PGR Programmes (Scotland) Growth Stage GS GS Date of Application 04/04/ /04/2017 No PGR Nil Nil Split PGR 3C L/Ha 3C L/Ha Moddus L/Ha Moddus L/Ha One hit PGR Nil 3C L/Ha Moddus L/Ha Optimising LG Sundance Variety Performance / page 12

Limagrain PGR Trials H2017 The PGR programmes reduced lodging significantly, compared to the untreated plots, at both seed rates. The split PGR programme produced the highest yields, from the lowest lodging in the trials. LG Sundance is a very high tillering variety and lower seed rates should be considered, to reduce lodging risk, without necessarily affecting final yield potential. An additional PGR application at the later growth stages of should only be considered if an early application was missed, or if a very high yielding crop with a lot of biomass is produced. Optimising LG Sundance Variety Performance / page 13

Maturity LG Sundance has a later maturity rating, similar to; KWS Santiago, Evolution and Leeds. LG recommend a robust T3 fungicide is used on LG Sundance, to ensure a healthy crop canopy, long grain fill period and a good specific weight. Reducing earlier fungicide inputs (T0/T1) could be considered, in order to apply a more robust T3. Optimising LG Sundance Variety Performance / page 14

Drilling Date vs. Seed Rate Trials and field observations show that LG Sundance is a very high tillering variety similar to Claire. This characteristic is important, as seed rates should be adjusted to a varieties tillering ability and sowing date. LG suggest lowering seed rates based on drilling date and if good sowing conditions allow, in order to produce stronger plants, as well as reducing the risk of lodging. Although LG Sundance has agronomic characteristics that are important for the early drilling situation, remember - straw strength will be compromised (ratings reduced by 1 point) LG recommend a drilling date of mid September onwards for LG Sundance - the variety is high tillering, so later drilling will not impact on final yield potential, but may be beneficial to standing ability. Recommended seed rates for LG Sundance Drilling Date Mid September Late September Early October Mid October Late October November onwards Seed rate (ideal conditions) Seed rates expressed as viable seeds per sq. metre (Seed rates will need to be adjusted, depending on both seedbed and weather conditions at the time of drilling, along with field history and operators knowledge). 16 Drilling Date vs. Seed Rate Drill date 02/10/16 Drill date 27/10/16 The above graph shows LG Sundance compared with Revelation at three different seed rates and two drilling dates (beginning and end of October), assessing yield and final ear counts. Revelation s yield increases with higher seed rates at both drilling dates, where as LG Sundance produces high tiller numbers from lower seed rates. Even at the later drilling date, LG Sundance has performed better at 300 seeds/m 2 than Revelation at 400 seeds/m 2. Optimising LG Sundance Variety Performance / page 16

Disease Resistance Soft Wheat LG Sundance has a very good disease resistance profile and offers the best rating (7.4) for Septoria tritici, as well as good adult plant resistance for yellow rust (9). An eyespot rating of (3) is to be viewed with caution, but growers should be made aware so that an eyespot treatment is included in any early fungicide programme implemented, especially in a second wheat situation LG Sundance has OWBM resistance, a valuable genetic insurance when insecticide products are becoming more limited and their effectiveness is questionable. 18 Disease Resistance Hard Wheat LG Sundance offers Septoria tritici resistance that is superior to all wheat varieties on the AHDB RL 2018/19. The variety offers a better than or equal to disease resistance profile to many of the varieties in the hard feed wheat sector. Interestingly, many varieties in the hard feed sector do not carry OWBM resistance; a valuable genetic trait for securing final yield potential, as seen in the season of LG Sundance RGT Gravity Gleam KWS Kerrin Shabras End-use group Hard Group 4 Disease resistance Mildew (1-9) [7] Yellow rust (1-9) Brown rust (1-9) Septoria nodorum (1-9) [6] - - [6] [6] [6] 5 [6] [6] [5] [6] [6] [5] [6] [6] 6 [5] Septoria tritici (1-9) Eyespot (1-9) 3 [4] [5] @ 5 5 6@ Fusarium ear blight (1-9) [6] [6] [6] [6] [5] [6] 6 [6] Orange wheat blossom midge R R R R - - R - R R KWS Silverstone KWS Santiago Graham KWS Crispin Dickens Evolution Freiston Reflection Dunston Costello JB Diego Grafton AHDB RL 2018/19 data set Optimising LG Sundance Variety Performance / page 18

Yield in High Disease Pressure Seasons Varieties with good disease resistance show a better yield potential in seasons of high disease pressure than more susceptible varieties, this gives growers security in these difficult seasons and 2016 had high levels of both yellow rust and Septoria tritici. Varieties with good Septoria resistance showed increased yield potential in these two seasons. The seasons of 2015 and 2017 were considered seasons of low disease pressure. 21 Agronomic Variety Positioning LG Sundance performs well as a second wheat, with a similar parentage to Shabras of Cassius and Hereford, which were very good second wheats. The variety performs well in a later drilling situation, which can be attributed to the fact that the variety is very high tillering. LG Sundance will benefit from being drilled on better soil types with good moisture retention, in order to secure maximum yield and better specific weight. LG Sundance performs well on light land with water retentive foundation soils. However, drought prone soils should be avoided, as this will have an effect on final plant senescence and final specific weight. 23 Grain Quality LG Sundance has a lower Hagberg and specific weight, which may be a concern for growers, but they are above the minimum standards. LG Sundance should not be placed in situations that may compromise final grain development i.e. light soils that are prone to drought. LG suggest a good T3 fungicide programme on later maturing varieties, such as LG Sundance to ensure green leaf duration and maximum grain fill. 24 LG Sundance Summary Offers comparable treated yield potential with many wheats listed, in both the soft and hard feed wheat sector. High untreated yield offers security of yield potential on-farm, especially in seasons of high disease pressure. Very good disease resistance profile, offering good yellow rust (9) and the best Septoria tritici (7.4) resistance available on the AHDB RL. Possesses additional agronomic characters of value over competitor varieties for securing maximum yield potential e.g. high tillering capacity, OWBM resistance. High tillering varieties such as Claire have been shown to be more robust in difficult seasons when drilling date and seed bed preparation is compromised. In the very dry season of 2018 many trial and field observations would suggest that LG Sundance has been more robust in its handling of the situation. The variety stayed green and healthy when other varieties were visibly suffering in the drought conditions perhaps the variety has a greater rooting ability, a character also suggested by its very good second wheat performance. LG Sundance offers additional market outlet of distilling over standard feed wheats. Optimising LG Sundance Variety Performance / page 24
