1 SUCCESS STORY-1 Bhavanaben Bipinchandra Ganvit, a 42 years old lady is resident of Dagunia village of Vaghai taluka of Dangs.She is graduate and married to Shri Bipinchandra Ganvit of same village. Both were graduate but could not get job and were living poor life before adopting dairy husbandry profession. They were running a small shop in villge and earning hardly Rs.1500/- monthly. She came to know regarding dairy husbandry profession through Dairy s representatives and purchased one cross bred cow in the year After six months she purchased second cross bred cow in the year She reared 15 heifers to cows in last 7 years. Presently she had 7 cows and 6 heifers. In last 7 years she had sold 10 cows at the rate ranging from 14000/- to 32000/- and now onwards she expects to sale an average 3 cows per year She had no land and her only source of income is coming from sale of milk, cows and cow dung. During the year , she supplied milk of Rs to Dairy and sold cow of Rs /- and cow dung of Rs. 30,000/. During the same period she had purchased inputs ( cattle feed, mineral mixture.etc) of Rs /- and Paddy straw,grasses of Rs 50,000/- After deducting all expenditure she earned approximately Rs 162,358/ during the year. She had no land and constructed Pucca house on purchased land.she had bore well with motor to provide water to cross bred cows. During May and june when drinking water is not available she brings drinking water for cows from river. Her two sons and a daughter are studying in Higher secondary and secondary school and dream of getting children educated is possible with support of Dairying only. She had constructed cattle shed also for cows and purchased Motor cycle for transportation purpose. She is Board of Director in Vasudhara Dairy too. She is a role model for inspiration to other tribal women. 1

2 SUCCESS STORY -2 Sumitraben Pandubhai Chaudhary is resident of Baj village Ta. Vaghai District Dangs is 35 years old women had three daughters and one son. Her son is studying in B.A. and daughters are in 11 th,8 th and 5 th standard. Although they had 10 acres of land but agricultural income was not sufficient for livelihood. Thus, they were working as a labour in Vaghai and earning Rs. 1550/- per month. They grow Nagali, Paddy, Tuwar and Adad mainly for home consumption. They have sold Paddy of worth Rs /- first time in life last year because of increased production due to use of Manure. Then they thought to keep cows and with the help of dairy they purchased 1 st cow in the year 2004, 2 nd cow in 2005 and 3 rd cow in the year Presently she have 6 cows and 3 heifers and also sold 2 cows. During the year , she sold milk of worth Rs /- and cow dung of Rs.10,000/-. She purchased cattle feed of Rs /- and paddy straw of Rs.8000/-. She also grows green fodder like Juwar, Maize..etc. Her income from Dairy Husbandry is Rs /-. She keeps one liters of milk at home daily for home consumption. She had constructed good Pucca house, bore well with electric motors, cattle shed and purchased Motorcycle too. Education of her children is also supported by Dairy Husbandry profession. They are happy and satisfied through their Kamdhenu. 2

3 SUCCESS STORY -3 Girijaben Rajubhai Bhoye is resident of Village Rambhas, Taluka Vaghai, District Dangs. She is 45 years old and 7 th pass tribal woman. She has 3 acres of land mostly non irrigated, grows Paddy, Tuwar, Adad and Nagli for home consumption. Half an acre of land is irrigated up to March- April and grows green fodder for cattle. She was woking as Anganvadi worker and earning hardly Rs.400/- monthly. Their financial condition was very poor and it was very difficult for them to survive. They heard regarding Dairy Husbandry through Dairy representatives and purchased 1 st cow from near by village in the year She had taken loan of Rs.18000/- from Bank and got subsidy from DRDA, Dangs. Then she adopted heifer rearing and reared five cows at home. Presently, she have 3 cows and two heifers and also sold two cows to others. During the year she supplied milk of worth Rs and sold cow dung of Rs.15000/-. She purchased cattle feed and other feed supplements of Rs 58490/- paddy straw of Rs 20,000/-. Her annual income from milk business is Rs.Rs.95934/-. She had one son, recently married and decided to adopt Dairy profession as a source of livelihood and a Girl studying in 9 th standard. She had constructed house, cattle shed and created facility for drinking water for home purpose and for irrigation up to April month of the year. All the expenditure of marriage of her son was done from income of milk business. Family had good knowledge about Dairy Husbandry as they have reared most of cross breed cows at home. During personal interview she told that A.I. technician and Veterinary doctors are available when need arise and do not face any problem in availing veterinary care. Family had searched the way to live better life. 3

4 SUCCESS STORY-4 Smt Savitaben Sunilbhai Gain, age-42 Village Sarvar, Taluka- Vaghai Dist. Dangs is educated up to 7 th standard. Her husband s name is Shri Sunilbhai Ramubhai Gain of 46 year age. He is educated up to 3 rd standard. She purchased first cow in 2002 after taking loan from bank. Another cross bred cows were purchased in the year and in by taking loan through Dairy Cooperatives. She had also sold two cross breed Rs 18000/- and Rs.37000/- respectively. Presently she had 3 cross breed cows and 5 heifers with her and poures 26 liter milk /day She had 2 acres of non irrigated land and grows Paddy,Tuvar and Adad mostly for home consumption. This year she had sold Paddy of Rs. 20,000/- because of increased production due to use of manure. During the year she had supplied 9098 litres of milk of Rs 2,21,235 and cow dung is used in her own land to improve the fertility. She had purchased cattle feed of Rs. 86,569 and dry grasses of Rs 35000/- She earned Rs.99666/-as a net income from milk business during the year She had a son and daughter and both are studying. Son is at graduation level and daughter is in 10 th standard. Approximately expenditure of Rs. 20,000/- per annum is met from milk business only. She had purchased a Tractor and her husband stopped going for labour job. SUCCESS STORY -5 Smt Kamduben Dhansukhbahi Chaudhary, age-60,village-kudkas Taluka Vaghai Dist Dangs Husband s name Shri Dhansukhbhai Thotkabhai Chaudhary She purchased 1st cross bred cow in 2002 taking loan from bank 2 nd cross bred cow was purchased in and third one in Presently she had 3 cows and 3 heifers and poures 30 liters milk /day. She had hardly half acre of land and grows Paddy, Ground nut and green fodder Sold Groundnut of Rs /- during the year

5 During the year she supplied 7369 liters of milk of Rs 1,64,888, consumed milk at home and cow dung is used to improve fertility of land. She purchased cattle feed and other feed supplement of Rs /- and dry grasses of Rs.20,000/- Cost of Cattle feed is less due to use of green fodder and Ground nut hay. Net income is Rs /- for the year She had 5 children, one daughter and 4 sons. Daughter and 1 st son are married and others two sons are studying in B.A. and one had completed B.Ed. Income earned through Dairy Husbandry is used for constructing Cattle Shed, arrangement of facility for drinking water and irrigation and in marriages. Regular expenditure is also made from milk business. 5
