Situation Overview Nepal has experienced the worst rainfall in the 15 years started on 11 August The torrential monsoon rains triggered the severe flooding and landslides across the 35 districts out of 75 districts of Nepal with the huge impacts on life, livelihoods and infrastructure. Among which 21 Terai districts were badly affected, where people lost their lives, assets, houses, food stocks, livestock and agricultural products due to the disastrous floods. There is no actual and uniform data available on the impacts of the Terai flood, though several government and non-government agencies are still updating it. According to press released by Ministry of Home Affairs revealed that there were 143 death, 30 missing and 43 injury cases recorded as of 20 August Similarly, 79,812 houses are completely and 1,44,444 houses are partial damaged and due to flood, landslides and inundation. According to report released on 24 August 2017 by United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 1.7 million people have been affected and 4,61,000 people (91,000 families) have been displaced due to the flood. According to data released from Ministry of Agricultural Development, 8.11 billion worth of loss to agriculture sectors as standing crops, food grains and fisheries are damaged. Similarly Parliament's Agriculture and Water Resources Committee revealed the data on damage of irrigation amounts to Rs billion as 135 projects including 15 major irrigation system have been damaged. In order to respond this massive disaster, RRN has formed a 'Flood Response Coordinating Team' to coordinate all response efforts effectively. The team is responsible for identifying the actual needs on the ground, mobilizing resources to support flood affected people in coordination with government mechanisms including National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) under Ministry of Home Affairs, District Disaster Relief Committee (DDRCs), Local Governments and other humanitarian organizations. Therefore, it may vary in the days to come. 3. Relief Distribution for Flood Affected people in Terai Districts (As of 25 August 2017) RRN response to flood covered currently 12 Terai districts. RRN has mobilized its resources worth of Rs million for relief support to flood-affected people in the 1 st phase. Among which, Rs. 9 million in 9 Central and Eastern Terai districts, namely Sunsari, Saptari, Siraha, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Rautahat, Bara and Parsa through the Community Development Programme (CDP) and Rs. 1.5 million in Jahapa, Morang and Banke districts through mobilizing the other sources including RRN's internal funds. RRN has been distributing immediate relief materials both food-items and non-food items as per the demand of the community received through respective DDRCs in 12 Terai districts.
