4 Success Story 4 1. Name of the farmer 2. Address AICRPDA, Indore Village Post Tehsil District Indore State Madhya Pradesh 3. Contact details Details of the farm (size, location, water 5. Membership in SelfHelp Group, Producers Cooperative/ Company, Cooperative Society etc., (give details) 6. Names of the Central Sector / State Schemes utilized by the farmer and the period 7. Technologies / Good Agricultural Practices / Facilities / Benefits obtained with details Size 4 ha. Location DARP Farm, CoA, Indore Layering of the surface of percolation tank for harvesting rainwater There is a percolation tank of 1200 cubic meter water storage capacity at the research farm of DARP.. But the water could not be stored in it due to high percolation rate (14mm per day). The Silpolin sheet of 200 gsm was used as the layering measure to store runoff water, which can be utilized by the crops during long dry spells. The water collected in the tank during 2008 with no seepage losses. It utilized for irrigating the fruit crops. In 2009, a farming system model for 0.60 ha area was developed at the station by utilizing the collected water in the tank for irrigating crops during dry period in Kharif and life saving irrigation in Rabi season by drip system of irrigation. of technologies (Seasonwise crops grown Improved / Present production technologies Traditional / Past production practices

Quality of produce has been improved as the crop does not face moisture stress condition for whole of the life period. The produce is directly taken to local mandi for sell..

6 10. Factors contributing to success Layering of tank by Silpolin sheet of 200 gsm has significantly reduced the losses of harvested water due to percolation and that is utilized for saving life of crops at the time of long dry spell. Likewise the cropping intensity, productivity and profitability can be enhanced by developing such micro watershed on farmers field. 11. Any other relevant information
