Conducted a two year feedlot study to determine the effects of timing and duration of test period and diet type on intake and feed efficiency of Charolais sired cattle. Conducted a study to determine the relationship between measures of heifer feed efficiency and mature cow intake of good quality and poor quality forage. Aided graduate students in statistical analysis, experimental design, and nutrition knowledge including performance testing and intake evaluation. EXTENSION and INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE Owner C 5 Angus, Ancona, IL, 2007 Present Assisted in management of a 75 head registered Angus, spring calving cow herd. Provided marketing assistance through exhibition and consigning in the Dameron Angus Annual Production Sale Assisted commercial and purebred producers on herd management and bull selection. 4 Invited Speaker at Extension Meeting University of Illinois Extension, Spoke at four field days: Orr Center Beef Field Day in Perry, IL (2011 and 2013), and Dixon Springs Beef Field Day in Simpson, IL (2011 and 2014). Explained residual feed intake and how it pertains to profitability in the cowherd. Presented research results regarding potential methods to improve overall beef production efficiency. Answered questions regarding the genetics and management of producers herds. Invited Speaker at Professional Meeting American Angus Association Annual Meeting Provided the American Angus Association Board of Directors an update on the results of research on beef cow biological efficiency funded by the Angus Foundation at the University of Illinois National Program for Genetic Improvement of Feed Efficiency in Beef Cattle Provided the advisory committee and breed representatives with updates on feed efficiency research conducted at the University of Illinois Beef Facility Tour Leader Department of Animal Science, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, Provided beef facility farm tours for high school students and industry groups. Discussed the importance of performance testing groups of cattle and the increased interest in feed efficiency. Explained cow/calf and feedlot nutrition and management in a confinement beef facility.
