WELCOME TO A GLOBAL LEADER IN SOYBEAN PRODUCTION

ILLINOIS IS SOYBEANS. IT IS WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO. TO WORLD MARKETS THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST THROUGH THE ST. LAWRENCE SEAWAY THROUGH SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA DOWN THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER TO WORLD MARKETS

Sustainable approach, quality composition, consistent supply and transportation options. Illinois is where soybean buyers turn for exceptional beans. As a global leader, we have what it takes to produce, process and efficiently transport our soybeans to destinations around the world. Centrally located in the United States, Illinois offers a reliable soybean supply and consistent quality. The state has exceptional crushing and processing capabilities, as well as easy access to various transportation options. The Illinois soybean industry has a deep commitment to soybeans. Meet some of the farmers who bring you soy from Illinois.

WHY BUY SOY FROM ILLINOIS? WE TAKE A SUSTAINABLE APPROACH. Illinois soybean growers have a long history of increasing production while decreasing our environmental footprint and impact on the environment. Despite our long history, we continue to strive for constant improvements. In the last 20 years, land use per soybean bushel has dropped by 35 percent. Since 1987, energy use per acre has decreased by 48 percent, while energy use per bushel has dropped 65 percent. 58 percent of Illinois soybean acres are farmed with conservation tillage practices, which leave crop residue undisturbed. Since 1982, this has contributed to a 30 percent reduction in soil erosion. To protect the water, Illinois farmers have converted more than half a million acres along Illinois streams and rivers from farmland to wetlands in the last 20 years. The Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) is working with many different conservation groups and other organizations toward a more sustainable future. Sustainability is about constant improvement, and Illinois growers are using less energy and less land to produce more soybeans. -Jeff Lynn Farmer Oakford, IL

WE OFFER CONSISTENT SUPPLY. For over 100 years, Illinois has grown and supplied increasing quantities of soybeans to meet customer needs. One aspect of this consistent supply is the state s crushing capability and capacity. Illinois was a top soybean-producing state in 2013, 2014 and In 2015, Illinois produced nearly 545 million bushels of soybeans on 9.8 million acres (4.0 million hectares) of farmland. * Illinois has roughly 975 grain-handling operations, including several soy processing facilities that use solvent extraction. Illinois boasts a total capacity of approximately 23,500 short tons (21,318 metric tons) of processing per day. Illinois produces more non-gmo soybeans than any other state. * Source: Crop Production 2015 Summary (January 2016), USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service

WE CAN TRANSPORT ANYWHERE. Illinois is driven by exports approximately 60 percent of soybeans grown in the state are exported. And every major form of transportation connects Illinois to the Midwest, the nation and the world. Illinois offers ready access to a nationwide network of railway freight companies. With 40 total railroads, it s the only state in which all seven Class I freight lines operate and has more than 7,000 miles (11,265 kilometers) of track. With more than 1,100 miles (1,770 kilometers) of navigable waterways and 65 grain elevators located along the state s rivers, Illinois waterways provide efficient movement of soybeans to the Gulf of Mexico for export to Asian, Latin American and European markets. They provide the only navigable waterway from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico. Other exports logistics include container and bulk shipments through the Pacific Northwest, and some market activity enables movement via the St. Lawrence Seaway. Containerized shipping uses standard shipping containers that are loaded and sealed intact onto ships, trains and trucks. Eight percent of Illinois beans are exported via containers through 22 facilities.

WHO BRINGS YOU SOY FROM ILLINOIS? ALTAMONT ROY WENDTE AND FOR YOU. GROWS SOYBEANS FOR FEED. Soybean producers like Roy Wendte, who farms with his brother Leon near Altamont, Illinois, have made Illinois a leader in soybean production for use as livestock feed. A longtime member of the Illinois Soybean Association, Roy understands the importance of sustainability. In 2014, his farm was honored as ISA s Sustainable Showcase Farm. Over the years, Wendte Farms has used numerous techniques to direct water flow and manage drainage, including buffer strips, rock chute structures and terraces. Other best management practices include variable rate application technology and prescription maps for seed and fertilizer. Roy is just one of the Illinois farmers whose soybeans feature consistent quality and get transported to the world.

FAIRMOUNT LYNN ROHRSCHEIB AND FOR YOU. GROWS SOYBEANS FOR FEED. Illinois soybean producers offer a variety of specialty soybeans for uses ranging from non-gmo to food grade to low linoleic soybeans. Lynn Rohrscheib farms near Fairmount, Illinois, as part of a fourth-generation family operation who grow non-gmo soybeans, corn and wheat. Regardless of the crop, good agronomic practices, effective management and the right tools and technologies help make them more successful and competitive. Non-GMO beans require more intensive management, but typically demand a premium in the marketplace versus conventional beans. Rohrscheib is just one of the soybean farmers in Illinois who are growing specialty soybeans then providing soy from Illinois to the world.
