12 Vision and Strategies for the ASEAN Animal Health Sector Vision and Strategic Plan for ASEAN Cooperation in Food, Agriculture, and Forestry ( ) Enhance quantity and quality of production with sustainable, green technologies, resource management systems, and minimise pre- and post-harvest losses and waste; Enhance trade facilitation, economic integration and market access; Ensure food security, food safety, better nutrition and equitable distribution. Increase resilience to climate change, natural disasters and other shocks; Assist resource constrained small producers and SMEs to improve productivity, technology and product quality, to meet global market standards and increase competitiveness. Strengthen ASEAN joint approaches on international and regional issuesaffecting the FAF sector. Promote sustainable forest management. 13 ASEAN Veterinary Epidemiology Group (AVEG) Technical group for the ASEAN animal health sector mandated to monitor and implement the Regional Strategic Framework for Epidemiology Capacity Development and Networking in ASEAN (Epi Framework) Lab Framework key strategic goals: Development of regionally-coherent, national structures and systems to support veterinary epidemiology Enhancement of partnerships and collaboration among AMS and partners to maximise efficient and sustainable use of available resources Strengthening human resources capacity and management to effectively deliver national animal health programmes in compliance with international standards Enhancement/promotion of awareness on veterinary epidemiology to provide policy support, ensure science-based decision-making, and efficiently mobilise resources

14 ASEAN Laboratory Directors Forum Technical group for the ASEAN animal health sector mandated to monitor and implement the Regional Strategic Framework for Laboratory Capacity Building and Networking in ASEAN (Lab Framework) Lab Framework key strategic goals: Development of regionally-coherent, national lab strategies and policies Allocation and mobilisation of resources to implementation of national strategies for efficient, cost-effective delivery of lab services Strengthening AMS capacity to provide acceptable quality and proficient lab services Enhancement, promotion of linkages and sharing of information among labs and stakeholders to ensure rational use of lab services Strengthening AMS capacity on planning, coordinating, and implementing research activities

16 Collaborative efforts between Animal Health & Human Health in ASEAN Information sharing and joint planning for collaborative activities in epidemiology AVEG and APT-FETN Joint Consultative Meetings AVEG and APT-FETN Joint Video Conferences every six months ASEAN Rabies Elimination Strategy (ARES) development and implementation Initiatives on regional health security through the Mitigation of Biological Threats Programme under the ASEAN-Canada s Global Partnership Programme

17 Conclusion Multi-sectoral, cross-pillar and multi-stakeholder collaboration is promoted in the ASEAN. Coordination and collaboration platforms exist within the animal health and human health sectors where where laboratory and workforce development, as well as other relevant matters can be tackled. These platforms have work plans, programmes and project activities where relevant initiatives may be aligned or synergized in consultation with concerned sectoral bodies resulting to collaboration.
