2 Before the introduction of Viskase cellulose casing, meat processors had no alternative in casing types; it was animal intestine or nothing. In the 1920 s, animal casings were hard to get, expensive, somewhat unreliable, and they permitted only limited processing techniques. With Viskase s innovative cellulose casings, meat processors no longer had to use animal by-products for casing. They quickly understood the advantages of using cellulose casings to package ready-to-eat meats, as well as the immadiate, positive impact on production costs. Cellulose casing unleashed a wave of creativity in processed meat packaging.

3 Cellulose casing was the idea of Erwin O. Freund, who spent his life working in the casing industry. From a small building at Mellon Institute of Industrial Research in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and on a shoe string budget, Mr. Freund spent over a decade experimenting and inventing cellulose casing. This invention was officially unveiled on October 27,1925. Mr. Freund s next step was to establish Visking Casing Company, now known as Viskase. Through his newly founded company, he produced sufficient quantities of cellulose to allow low cost mass production of processed meat foods and sausage, Over our 90 year history, Freund s passion for invention and innovation has remained a key Viskase strategy. Relentless innovation has provided a path to successful growth both in the US and in global markets. Today, Viskase is a global leader in the casing industry. We are a company focused on helping our customers implement exceptional packaging in the processed meat industry. Since Viskase s invention of the first synthetic casing 90 years ago, we continue to concentrate on ground-breaking industry ideas, introducing new products and new concepts that contribute to the advancement of the processed meat industry. In addition to our cellulose casing, Viskase manufactures a full line of casing types including fibrous, plastics, and specialty casing products.

4 As global casing demand continues to increase, Viskase is at the forefront of investing in casing development and capacity to meet these demands. This includes investment in new facilities to provide superior products and customer service around the globe. In the Philippines, we built a new facility that is reducing order lead times for our customers in the Asia-Pacific region. In the booming South American market, we moved into a new, larger facility in Atibaia, Brazil. This move is designed to meet the growing demand for all of our product lines in Latin America. We also opened a new plant in Warsaw, Poland, to better service the casing needs of Eastern Europe s emerging economies. As a leading global supplier to the meat industry, our business philosophy is to be a true partner with our customers, providing Global Casing Solutions wherever and whenever there is a need. We do this in over 120 countries, across 24 time zones, from 9 global plants, with over 2,100 dedicated employees concentrating on serving our customers. Viskase operates plants in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, France, Poland, and the Philippines. In addition, we have a global network of over 100 Viskase distributors. Our Mission: Achieve market leadership on a global basis by delivering innovative, sustainable protein packaging solutions, building long-term relationships with our customers and stakeholders, ensuring environmentally sound and safe operations with a culture based on a commitment to excellence, personal initiative, honesty, integrity and corporate accountability. Our mission statement makes Viskase s core values clear: a strong focus on invention and innovation, allowing Viskase to serve our global customers needs. Viskase s goal is to deliver high quality casings, while simultaneously respecting the needs of our valued employees and the environment. We firmly believe that Viskase stands for more than making a profit The following pages provide detailed descriptions of our eight world-class casing product lines.
