The TST 266 is supplied with EEx d certifiction, in compince with Europen stndrds EN nd EN 50018, nd is therefore prticulrly suitble lso for industril res with potentilly explosive environments. The unit is usully fitted on pipes or tnks by mens of threded or flnged process connection. The TST 266, which is vilble in severl stndrd versions nd different configurtions, cn lso be configured with specific dimensions nd chrcteristics depending on process requirements. 2 omnigrd S TST 266 Ares of ppliction The TST 266 cn lso be used in generic industril pplictions but is prticulrly suitble for EEx d certified ppliction like: chemicl industry petrochemicl industry energy industry gs processing industry. Function nd system design Mesuring principle Equipment rchitecture In RTD (Resistnce Temperture Detector) thermometers, the sensing element consists of n electricl resistnce with vlue of 100 ohm t 0 C (clled Pt 100, in complince with stndrd DIN EN 60751) which increses t higher tempertures ccording to coefficient chrcteristic of the resistor mteril (pltinum). In industril thermometers complint with the DIN EN stndrd, the vlue of this coefficient is α = 3.85*10-3 C -1, clculted between 0 nd 100 C. The TST 266 thermometer with thermoresistnce comprises: n EEx d certified luminium housing n insert with thermoresistnce Pt 100, insulted with minerl oxide (MgO), with oversheth nd terminls on cermic support lmintion nipple nd 3 elements coupling thermowell mde from br with threded or flnged process connection. Electronics The required type of output signl cn be obtined by choosing the correct hed-mounted trnsmitter. Endress+Huser supplies "stte-of-the-rt" trnsmitters (the itemp series) built in 2-wire technology nd with 4 20 ma output signl, HART or PROFIBUS-PA. All trnsmitters cn be esily progrmmed using personl computer nd the RedWin 2000 public domin softwre (for trnsmitters 4 20 ma nd HART ) or the Commuwin II softwre (for PROFIBUS-PA trnsmitters). HART trnsmitters cn lso be progrmmed with the hnd-held operting module DXR 275 (Universl HART Communictor). If no hed trnsmitter is used, it is lso possible to connect the thermoresistnce to remote trnsmitter DIN-ril. 5 omnigrd S TST 266 Instlltion The Omnigrd S TST 266 cn be instlled on pipes or tnks by mens of threded or flnged connections. The counterprts for process connections nd gskets, when required, re not supplied with the sensor nd must be purchsed seprtely by the user. The immersion length must tke into ccount ll the prmeters of the thermometer nd the process to mesure. If the immersion is too low, n error my be generted in the temperture recorded due to the lower temperture of the process fluid ner to the wlls nd het trnsfer, which tkes plce through the sensor stem. The incidence of such n error cn be not negligible if there is big difference between the process temperture nd the mbient temperture. To prevent mesuring errors of this kind, it is dvisble to use thermowells with smll dimeter nd n immersion length (U) of t lest mm. In smll section ducts the tubing s xis must be reched nd preferibly slightly exceeded by the tip of the probe (see fig. 3A). Insultion of the outer prt of the sensor reduces the effect produced by low immersion. Alterntively, it is lso possible to dopt tilted instlltion (see fig. 3B-3D). As fr s corrosion is concerned, the bse mteril for prts in contct with the fluid is ble to withstnd the most common corrosive gents up to the highest tempertures. Even the nipples nd 3 elements coupling supplied with the connection fitting of the instrument re ble to withstnd wide rnge of ggressive substnces. Disssembled components of the sensors must be ressembled with the recommended clmping torques in order to ensure the pproprite IP protection clss within the sensor-housing coupling. 6 omnigrd S TST 266 System components Housing The protection housing, commonly referred to s "connection hed"; is used to contin nd protect the terminl block or the trnsmitter, nd to join the electric connections to the mechnicl component. The hed used for the TST 266 is complint with DIN (form B) nd EN 50014/50018 stndrds (EEx certifiction for explosion-proof instruments). The mtching of the hed with the extension below the hed nd the cover (threded) ensures n IP66 clss of protection. The hed lso hs chin to connect the body to the cover, which fcilittes the use of the instrument during the mintennce on systems. The single or double electricl cble input hs M20x1.5, 1/2 NPT or 3/4 NPT threding. Hed trnsmitter Avilble hed trnsmitters include (see lso section "Electronics"): TMT 180 TMT 181 TMT 182 TMT 184 PCP 4 20 ma PCP 4 20 ma Smrt HART PROFIBUS-PA. The TMT 180 nd TMT 181 re trnsmitters tht cn be progrmmed by mens of PC. The TMT 180 is lso vilble in n enhnced ccurcy version (0.1 C vs. 0.2 C) with n operting temperture rnge of C. The TMT 180 cn lso hve fixed mesurement rnge (the limit vlues of the rnge must be specified by the customer in order phse). The TMT 182 output consists of 4 20 ma nd HART superimposed signls. 7 omnigrd S TST 266 Extension neck The extension neck is the prt between the thermowell nd the trnsmitter housing. To prevent the process temperture from overheting the re of the trnsmitter, specil extension "neck" is inserted between the sensor, exposed to high temperture processes, nd the trnsmitter. This enbles to limit the operting temperture of the trnsmitter. The neck is usully constituted by tube ssembled to hydrulic hrdwre (nipples or joints) tht is suitble to llow the djustment of the sensor to the thermowell. The stndrd lengths (N) nd the versions of the extension neck cn be selected mong the following options: 52 mm (only 1/2 NPT, type L) 148 mm (nipple+3 elements coupling+nipple, type LUN). It is necessry tht this temperture is kept within the limit vlues defined in the prgrph "Operting conditions". 8 omnigrd S TST 266 Thermowell The thermowell is the component of the TST 266 tht must tolerte most of the mechnicl stress trnsmitted by the process. It is mde from round br nd supplied in different mterils nd dimensions, ccording the chemicl/physicl chrcteristics of the process: corrosion, temperture, pressure nd speed of the fluid. The thermowell consists of three prts: the extension neck (indicted s T), usully with cylindricl shpe (nd stndrd dimeters of 30 or 35 mm nd lengths of 70/100 mm), represents the externl prt of the thermowell nd is connected with the hed of the probe by mens of neck (usully nipple) the immersed prt (identified s U), with conicl or cylindricl shpe (the stndrd dimeter of the re below the fitting is 20 or 25 mm), is situted next to the process connection in direct contct with the process fluid the threded or flnged process connection represents the prt inserted between the extension nd the immersed prt nd gurntees the mechnicl nd hydrulic seling of the thermometer nd plnt. The externl finishing of the thermowell stem is vilble with stndrd vlue of R < 1.6 µm (different finishes re vilble on request). The totl stndrd length (A) of the thermowell must never exceed 1300 mm (tht represents the mximum drilling limit; higher lengths re vilble only on request). Probe The mesuring probe (generlly Pt 100) of sensor TST 266 consists of 6 mm dimeter thermometric insert (TET 300) whose stem is mde in MgO compressed by SS 316L/ (lso clled minerl insulted cble). To improve het trnsmission, the insert tip is pushed, by mens of spring system, to the inside bottom of the thermowell (to order seprtely). The insert is lwys supplied with lmintion nipple nd/or 3 elements coupling. As prgrph 2.1 of Article 1 is not pplicble to this kind of instrument, the mrking 4 is not mndtory for TST 266 models used for generic pplictions. Mteril certifiction The mteril certifiction cn be selected directly in the sles structure nd is vilble in different typologies. Certificte 3.1.B includes sttement tht contins ll the documents relted to the mteril employed for the mnufcture of ech thermowell, long with mrking, consisting in code punched on the thermowell, tht gurntees the trcebility of the product. In the sles structure re lso vilble other certifiction relted to mterils which integrte the 3.1.B: 3.1.C certifiction NACE MR 0175 certifiction PMI certifiction.
