1 Global Science Books ( Mission statement GSB was established on several guiding principles: 1) To establish a unique niche, primarily for plant science, to address several critical problems and short-comings in the world of science publishing leading to the motto Breathing new life into science ; 2) Publish with passion; 3) Write, edit and review for the love of science; 4) Fight fairly, and with honour; 5) Represent the truth even when in doubt; Vincit omnia veritas (Latin for truth conquers all ); 6) Question always and always be prepared to respond; 7) Create novelty and do not fear to go off the beaten track; 8) Practice and preach ethics and never be afraid to challenge and adjust them if and when required; ) Labor omnia vincit (Latin for hard work conquers all ); 1) Losses can sometimes be gains and points of growth. Time-line and highlights September, 25: GSB was established in the United Kingdom with branches in Portugal and Japan June, 26: 4-volume maiden FOPB series published dedicated to ornamental biotechnology January, 27: 31 journals launched, primarily in the plant sciences 27: First volume of all 31 journals successfully published 28: First Special Issues published; GSB logo obtained status 2: Celebration of the International Year of the Potato (28; 4 Special Issues in FVCSB + FOOD) 21: GSB Online platform created and launched; Celebration of the UN International Year of Biodiversity (21; BBB Special Issue) 211: GSB head office and editorial office transferred to Japan, making it the first Japan-based English science publisher. 2: Novel and challenging concepts to publishing ethics and publishing collaboration implemented. Brief message from the Editor-in-Chief GSB is much more than about simply having your data published: our range of journals are meant to bring thematic diversity and represent cultural richness.
