1 Professor Martin Möller, March. 26, 2015 Chair of Textile and Macromolecular Chemistry, RWTH Aachen University Dear Professor Möller, I am writing to apply for PhD position in field of Bioreactor system for injectable biomimetic microgels at DWI Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials. I received my Bachelors at Azad University-Science & Research Branch (2010, GPA: out of 20), and my Masters in Polymer Science and Engineering at University of Tehran, Iran (2013, GPA: 17.83out of 20). The goal of my Master s thesis was to evaluate interfacial adhesion of compatibilized HDPE-based binary blends via quantification of interfacial tension. The microstructures, rheological and mechanical characteristics of modified blends were investigated through theoretical model, statistical analysis and experimental validation of results. I defended my thesis with a grade of out of 20 and two journal papers (in order of under review and at the final stage of preparation) are the outcome of this project. I was among few women accepted in Master s program at the University of Tehran. While studying for masters, I was a teacher assistant in plastic laboratory for one semester, and worked part-time as an engineer-research assistant in an industrial research institute to get more hands-on experience. There, I learned how to carry out experiments, brainstorm, develop new approaches, test designing and cooperate with other team members. After graduation, in order to pursue my interests in research, I joined a well-known automotive PU headliner manufacturer as a research and development expert. In close teamwork with manufacturing engineers, I gained so many valuable experiences, specifically in field of Kanban and Agile research and manufacturing systems in order to modify products properties. Meanwhile, I have joined Iranian Polymer & Petroleum Institute, as a collaborative researcher, to study cold crystallization behavior and kinetic of PLA Nanocomposites Containing Functionalized Graphene Nanoplatelets via modeling and theoretical analysis. In this regard, I had the great opportunity to be exposed to in-depth research study in field of Biomaterials; one journal papers, as the outcome of this project, are at final stages of preparation. In my spare time, I translate and edit journal papers for Baspar Magazine, a publication for Iranian Polymer Engineering Community. This experience has exposed me to the state-ofthe-art of material science. Page 1 of 2

2 I would really like to work in academia and excel in research area, which is actually my career goal. On the account of required qualifications of the described project, the educational background in polymer engineering, earlier experience in field of production of PLA hydrogel nanofibers (as B.SC final project), material design and modeling, various characterization methods and analysis of measured properties; I found this opportunity quite aligned with my research interest. Regarding the content of this project and candidate requirements, I believe through hardworking, research capability and my earlier laboratory-experimental and academic experiences, I will be successful under your supervision. I am confident that it will help me to achieve my academic goals. Sincerely, Farzaneh Hassanpour frz.hassanpour@ut.ac.ir Tel : Page 2 of 2
