Nelson defended his PhD in Bioengineering Systems from the MIT Portugal PhD Program at the University of Minho, 17 th of December During his scientific career he has published 1 peer reviewed article, 7 submitted articles in international journals, and participated in several international conferences. In September 2009, he started his PhD under MIT Portugal Program. He attended the Advanced Studies Course, 1 st year of PhD in Bioengineering Systems, and he received training in Portuguese laboratories, namely, the Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) at University of Coimbra (Drug Delivery Carriers for cancer and neurodegenerative disorders), the 3B s Research Group at University of Minho (Stem cells, Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine) and the Faculty of Science and Technology University Nova de Lisboa (Biomedical Engineering). During the Advanced Studies Course, he gained experiences on market research and technology based entrepreneurship, promotion of market-oriented projects in Bioengineering and conversion of biotechnologies into economic values. He received his Master degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Faculty of Science and Technology University Nova de Lisboa in He received his Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering also from the Faculty of Science and
