2 About BIO.NRW and the BIO.NRW.academy North Rhine-Westphalia s biotechnology cluster BIO.NRW is a central catalyst for the sustainable development of the state s biotech sector. It actively promotes cooperation between business, research, investors and policy-makers for instance by organizing events focusing on various up-to-date scientific or business topics. A key element of this strategy is the BIO.NRW.academy, organized several times per year as half-day workshops or whole-day symposia in different locations in NRW. Having had its kick-off event 2009 in Dortmund, From Mice to Men: Road to Human Relevant Alternative Methods for Safety Assessment is the 15 th BIO.NRW.academy. The cluster BIO.NRW also promotes the strengths and achievements of biotech nology in the state. To support young as well as already estab lished biotech companies, BIO.NRW offers the following core competencies: Individual matchmaking for collabora tions and partners Overview on all up-to-date R&D activi ties in industry and academia Profound knowledge on financing pos sibilities International promotion and marketing for NRW as biotech location Direct contacts to decision makers

3 Purpose of the Workshop Animal-free approaches gained a high level of acceptance for the assessment of local effects. However, a long way still lies ahead to develop alternative methods that reliably predict adverse systemic effects. Significant steps will be to identify human-relevant mechanisms that lead to those effects and develop suitable in vitro models as well as detection systems for their correct prediction. State-of-the-art knowledge is presented as well as opportunities are given for active information exchange and networking for upcoming projects. A booth on funding opportunities will complete the program. The goal of this workshop is to establish a NEtwork on Alternative Testing in North Rhine Westphalia (NEAT-NRW) by joining forces and enhancing the competence in this demanding interdisciplinary subject. Who should attend? Scientists from academia and industry involved in the development or application of alternative approaches Biotech companies and enterprises offering innovative biological models or techniques Regulatory authorities Informationen zu BIO.NRW

6 Call for Posters and Exhibition Call for Posters Deadline for abstracts: April, 11 th, 2016 In order to expand the possibility for presentation beyond the oral talks all participants from science and SMEs are encouraged to present their expertise on posters, which will be in focus of guided poster tours. We ask you to apply with a scientific poster, when your findings show: new in vitro and in silico methods or novel safety assessment tools, respectively. The poster should contain Purpose or application of Test method: Description of Test method (in vitro/in silico/alternative organisms/aop/iata) State of Test method (development/pre-validation/ validation/ready-to-use) Data generated with the Test method so far In order to apply you need to send an abstract of your poster. Please note that spaces are limited so you are advised to apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Selection will be carried out on the basis of overall quality of the abstract and special interest by the scientific committee. Please note that the scientific committee reserves the rights to reject proposals that are beyond the scope of the conference. Submissions imply the intent of at least one author to register, attend the conference and present the findings during one of two guided poster tours.
