REPORT No: Page 2 of 5 SAMPLE CHARACTERISTICS On the 19th of Dember 2006, reived from the company "ADVERSUS, S.L." one sample of the wood preservative «RED DEMON USO PROFESIONAL», which contains the insecticides thiamethoxam and etofenprox, according to the product information. TEST REQUESTED The tests requested by the client are: Treatment of a wood sample of pine sapwood in autoclave with the preservative liquid not diluted, followed by stabilisation in chamber with defined temperature and humidity. Determination of penetration and retention of the biocide thiamethoxam at three depth in the treated wood sample..

3 REPORT No: Page 3 of 5 TESTS CARRIED OUT In one sample of pine (Pinus radiata) sapwood (38x48x139 mm) the end wood has been sealed with Araldit epoxy resin to avoid that the product enters this way. This test specimen has then been treated in an autoclave with the liquid product «RED DEMON.' USO PROFESIONAL» which is a wood preservative containing insecticide, according to the product information supplied by the client. The treatment has been initiated by applying a vacuum (10 mbar absolute pressure) during 20 minutes followed by filling the autoclave with the liquid product and then raising the pressure again to the atmospheric pressure, to for the product in to the lateral surfas of the wood sample. The final immersion time was 180 minutes. A retention value of kg/ m3 was measured by weighing before and after the treatment. The high value signifies that close to 100% of the possible impregnation has been achieved. After this treatment the wood sample has been incubated in an acclimatisation chamber at 20 C and 65% relative humidity during 16 days, when it was observed that the solvent of the preservative evaporates very slowly. Only 12 of the adsorbed 492 kg/m3 had evaporated during this periodo To increase the evaporation rate the sealed end wood was cut away (photo no 1) and the sample was positioned in an air extraction hood during four weeks more. After this period a reduction of 78.3 kg/m3 was measured and it was decided to analyse the biocide content without that a constant weight was reached, because of the presumable low volatile solvent of the wood preservative. During the drying of the wood sample it was observed that white crystals formed on the surfa of the specimen. Photo 1: Treated test specimen with the sealed end wood cut away to facilitate drying.

4 REPORT No: Page 4 of 5 At three depth from the lateral surfa (0-3, 3-12 Y mm) of the wood sample was recollected wood slis of which the active insecticide thiamethoxam content was determined and the retention of the product was calculated. To determine the conntration of the active insecticide thiamethoxam in the wood preservative «RED DEMON USO PROFESIONAL» a quantitative analysis of this compound has been performed. Determination of the penetration To determine the penetration of the active "thiamethoxam" steps have been performed: in to the wood sample the following 1. From the treated wood sample slis have been cut at the following depths: O, 3 and 12 mm to obtain a quantity of wood shavings between 4 and 15 g. 2. Extraction with Aclerated Solvent Extraction (ASE) of the samples with specific solvents. 3. Conntration by evaporating off the solvent. 4. Analysis of presen of the biocide in the conntrate with High Performan Chromatography (HPLC). For the determination of the active component in the samples it has been used an HPLCinstrument connected with an ultraviolet detector. The análisis conditions: Column: Hypersil, 80S C-18 Mobile phase: Water/Atonitrile (gradient) Flow rate: 1.0 ml/min Detector UV: 250 nm

5 REPORT No: page 5 of 5 RESULTS As results of the chromatography "thiamethoxam" analysis, the following retentions of the active material has been measured and the corresponding retention values of the wood preservative have been calculated using an analysed content value of thiamethoxam of 0.17%: The penetration of the biocide thiamethoxam has been total in the assayed sap-wood sample treated by vacuum impregnation in autoclave. CONCLUTIONS. With the performed vacuum impregnation in autoclave, with the liquid product RED DEMON USO PROFESIONAL, the active material "thiamethoxam" has reached a total impregnation of the sap-wood sample with the dimensions 38 x 48 mm.
