4 III. Comparison to Previous Year s Material Accounting The changes in the amounts that enter, are released to air or are contained in product are mainly the result of production volume increases or decreases in product lines and/or colours produced. The changes in the amounts sent off-site for disposal or treatment prior to disposal are related to changes in treatment method and/or amount of waste produced. In addition, Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) use as a cleaning solvent increased. The amount contained in product did not significantly change. IV. Comparison to Objectives Set Out in Current Version of the Toxic Substances Reduction Plan Two options were identified for reducing the use of ethylbenzene, toluene and xylenes in cleaning solvent. At the time of this report, only the option to collect the final solvent rinse and reuse as the first rinse for cleaning equipment has been implemented. It is estimated that the initial use reduction targets of 0.5 t of ethylbenzene, 1.6 t of toluene and 2.0 t of xylenes were met or exceeded. V. Summary of Any Amendments Made to the Toxic Substances Reduction Plan No amendments were made to any of the plans. 4
