S Environmental Science (Thesis) GPA 3.77 The University of Texas at San Antonio B.S Biology GPA 3.26 San Antonio College A.S.S Interpreting for the Deaf PROFESIONAL EMPLOYMENT HISTORY 2012-Present Doctor of Philosophy student in Cell & Molecular Biology at the University of TX at San Antonio Present Research Assistant to Dr. Sunter at the University of TX at San Antonio, as a research assistant to Dr. Sunter my role is to carry out and initiate research projects related to the field of plant virology. My thesis work involved the in vivo analysis of epigenetic markers in the promoter of a gene from the plant virus Tomato Golden Mosaic virus (TGMV) Fall Teaching Assistant, Cell Biology Lab at the University of TX at San Antonio Spring Teaching Assistant, Introductory Biology Lab at the University of TX at San Antonio Interpreter for the Deaf at the University of TX at San Antonio, my role was to be a communication facilitator interpreting spoken English into American Sign Language and vise versa.

2 Interpreter for the Deaf at the San Antonio College, my role was to be a communication facilitator interpreting spoken English into American Sign Language and vise versa. LABORATORY SKILLS Proficient in: PCR, DNA and RNA isolation, plasmid preparations, spectrophotometry, gel electrophoresis, cloning, chemical preparations, plate preparations, bisulfite sequencing, chromatin immunoprecipitation, electrophoretic mobility shift assays, versadoc imaging, ph meter, analytic balance, autoclave. Some experience with northern and western blots. FIELD WORK SKILLS Some experience with, from Field Biology class: Estimation and identification of plant and animal populations, quadrat and line-point method, measurement of water potential using a Scholander pressure bomb, bird indentificatgion, linear regression, measurement of soil moisture using a Field Scout TDR 200 and soil temperature using a Watch Dog, measurement of light intensity using a LI-COR quantum radiation sensor, determination of soil ph, N, P and K levels, dendrochronology, long hikes up mountainous terrain carrying packs and equipment, camping out in the field over three weeks. TEACHING EXPIERIENCE Teaching the Introductory Biology I Lab involves teaching on topics such as: how to use a microscope, simple and serial dilutions, DNA, enzymes, gel electrophoresis, dissection, evaporation, how to set up a gas chamber, fermentation, bacteria, fertilization, and plants. Teaching the Cell Biology Lab involves teaching on topics such as: the inverted and fluorescent microscope, Hela cells, sterile technique, the hemocytometer, fluorescent cell stains, the hemagglutination assay, protein purification, the Bradford assay, and differential centrifugation. ACTIVITIES AND HONORS In the summer of 2009 I was awarded the TREE Fellowship (Teaching and Research in Ecology and Environmental Science). In the summer and fall of 2011, I was awarded the HLAE Fellowship (Hispanic Leadership In Agriculture and the Environment). In January of 2013 I was awarded the LSAMP Fellowship (Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation). These fellowships have funded my research and allowed me to attended and present our research at local and national conferences.

3 COMMUNITY OUTREACH As a TREE fellow, one of our goals was to give back to the community by volunteering at a local elementary school where we worked with children to educate them about such issues as Ecology, Environmental Science and the U. S. Forest Service. My personal goal with the children is to inspire an interest to learn about and care for the environment and other species.
