27 RECENT TAX INCENTIVES FOR COMPANIES Patent box: a regime aimed at encouraging the development of Intellectual Property by providing a 50% tax exemption for income derived from direct or indirect exploitation of IP. R&D tax credit: this incentive has been strengthened since 2016, by providing for a tax credit of 50% of the increase of all R&D expenses and by raising the maximum annual credit amount to 20 million (up from 5 million). Super and hyper amortization: these measures are intended to facilitate industrial investment providing for a 40% increase in the acquisition costs of assets (super amortization) and for a 150% increase in the acquisition costs of capital goods necessary for technological and digital transformation (hyper amortization). Startups and innovative SMEs regime: new tax regimes have been introduced for startups and innovative SME s, providing a simplification of companies compliance and tax, labour and investments incentives. p All Rights reserved.

Fast-track visa for investors: a series of incentives related to entry and residence visas for those intending to invest in Italy, has been recently introduced. The current regulatory framework on immigration inflow has been modified including a special premium regime that lasts two years for incoming immigrants who are going to stay longer than three months (renewable, under certain circumstances, for a further three years) and intend to invest in Italy either by investing in government bonds, in participation to the share capital of a company residing and operating in Italy, in the share capital of a company that is an innovative startup or in philanthropic donations in the fields of culture, education, immigration management, scientific research or cultural heritage restoration. p All Rights reserved.
