3 Few facts about microbes There was first to settle the Earth There is nearly unlimited number of them They can live in totally different environments like soil, water, animal digestive system Total biomass of microbes is higher than biomass of other living things They can form variety of symbiosis forms with plants and animals We can generally divide them into 3 main groups: regenerative, degenerative and opportunistic which is the largest group Soil & plan condition is strictly connected with microbial activity

15 Problems with changing microbial activity and population 1.The density of microorganisms in the soil and rhizosphere of the plant is very high 2.Condition in the soil and on the plants hugely depends on what types of microorganisms dominate there. For example, crops tend to be diseased and soil structure tends to be poor where putrefactive (degenerative) bacteria are dominant. On the contrary, crops grow wholesomely in the field where fermentative microorganisms are dominant. 3.More than one hundred to one thousand of microorganisms live in one gram of soil and, as a matter of fact, it's impossible for any microbial solution to be superior in number. It means that on 1hectare even up to 10 tons of microbes can be found 4 If you put single strain of soil bacteria into the soil which actually contains f.e. 10 tons of microbes on 1 hectare you may be not successful. In most of the cases soil microbes will be competitive to the microbes that you want to put into soil and prevail

18 So how EM can improve? It is the key to the solution to change the diversity of microorganisms so as to make regenerative microorganisms dominant. We can greatly stimulate such process by using EM. What actually happens with application of EM is that it stimulate native microorganisms, most of which are opportunistic, and make them work in cooperation with EM in a good way for soil&crops EM is not against native soil microflora - it is changing its behavior using the largest group of microbes - opportunistic one which for certain period of time can become Efective together with EM The key to success is to introduce fermentation process which is the most dominant process that EM can stimulate and is based on.

19 EM Technology is based on the cooperation of 3 major groups of microorganisms (Lactobacillus, yeast, phototropic microbes) supplemented by specific species of fungi and bacteria with directional operation like Azotobacter or Aspergillus Lactic Acid Bacteria is, a generic term for a category of bacteria that convert sugars into lactic acid through lactic acid fermentation. One characteristic of lactic acid bacteria is that it can relatively easily co-exist with other bacteria. Lactic acid bacteria are widely used in the production of fermented foods such as cheese and yogurt that can be naturally preserved for a long period of time. Ever since Louis Pasteur discovered lactic acid bacteria in 1875, it has been noted for its beneficial effects on health and longevity. Recent research indicates that besides regulating the intestines, lactic acid bacteria are also known for being involved in immunostimulatory activity Lactic acid bacteria in EM suppress harmful microorganisms while producing lactic acid which lowers the ph in and encourages rapid breakdown of organic substances. Lactic acid bacteria can also suppress the reproduction of a harmful fungus, Fusarium.

20 Known as a fermentation starter, yeast is a microorganism necessary for the brewing of alcohol and the making of bread (fermentation) Yeast produces many biologically active agents such as amino acids and polysaccharides which will become the feed for other microorganisms in EM Yeast can bind toxic substances in their shells

21 Phototrophic bacteria (also known as photosynthetic bacteria) are an ancient type of bacteria which have existed since a time before the Earth had its present concentration of oxygen. As its name indicates, these bacteria utilize solar energy to metabolize organic and inorganic substances. Photosynthetic bacteria are an essential element of EM. The efficacy of EM is determined by the populations of photosynthetic bacteria found in EM solutions. Phototrophic bacteria are involved in various metabolic systems, and play a major role in nitrogen cycling and carbon cycling. They contribute to better conversion of sunlight or, in other words, better photosynthesis.

22 How EM can help you to reduce the cost and bring better economical effects to your farm? By changing the key parameters of the soil: the structure and texture, the water holding capacity, the oxygen regulating capacity, the humus level and decomposition of Organic Matter the ph, the fertilizers absorbtion of the soil the soil life (earthworms)
