2 Gold Nanoparticles Gold has always been the one precious material people like best. One of these special uses of gold refers to what is called nanogold. colloidal gold or gold nanoparticles, i.e. sub-micrometer sized particles of gold dispersed in a fluid, usually water. Gold Nanoparticles have unique physical, chemical and biological properties such as inertia, stability, biocompatibility, low level of cytoxicity and others, cause significant medico-biological potential of gold nanoparticles and utilized in high end applications such as organic photovoltaics, sensory probes, therapeutics, drug delivery, electron microscopy, electronic conductors and catalysis. The optical and electronic properties of gold nanoparticles are tunable by changing the size, shape, surface chemistry or aggregation state. This leads to the search of new and more advanced method of controlled synthesis of gold nanoparticles and henceforth, controlled property of size and shape. The broad range of gold nanoparticles by Apollo Biolife, serves to increase their adoption in high-technology applications giving optimum performance, with superior stability, sensitivity and binding properties. Non-functionalized Gold Nanoparticles Our Standard spherical gold nanoparticles are prepared using modified proprietary citrate reduction method. 4 Quantum Dots Quantum dots are tiny particles, or nanoparticles, of a semiconductor material which range from 2 to 10 nanometers in diameter (about the width of 50 atoms). Fundamentally, quantum dots are fluorophores substances that absorb photons of light, then re-emit photons at a different wavelength. The wavelength of these photon emissions is dependent upon the size of the quantum dot. Quantum dots are extremely efficient in generating fluorescence; their intrinsic brightness is often many times that observed for other classes of fluorophores. The photo-stability of a quantum dot is many orders of magnitude greater than that associated with traditional fluorescent molecules; a property which enables them to have long-term imaging experiments which is difficult to achieve with conventional fluorophores that show photo-induced deterioration. The ability to precisely control the size of a quantum dot enables the manufacturer to determine the wavelength of the emission, which in turn determines the colour of light the human eye perceives. Quantum dots can therefore be tuned during production to emit any colour of light desired. The ability to control, or tune the emission from the quantum dot by changing its core size is called the size quantization effect. The smaller the dot, the closer it is to the blue end of the spectrum, and the larger the dot, the closer to the red end. Dots can even be tuned beyond visible light, into the infra-red or into the ultra-violet. Our range of semi-conductor fluorescent nanoparticles finds their use in numerous applications in the field of nanoelectronics and opto-electronics. They are offered in both organic and aqueous formulations. Our research and development department is also constantly engaged in the creation of new quantum dots with additional properties sought by the market. 3 P a g e

9 Microbial Surfactants Surfactants are chemicals that reduce surface tension (or interfacial tension) between two liquids or between liquid and solid. Surfactants find wide application which range from simple household activities to complicated industrial processes. Surfactants are widely used in soaps, laundry detergent, dish washing liquids and personal care products such as moistures, shampoos. They are also extensively used in lubricants, emulsion polymerization, textile processing, mining flocculates, petroleum recovery, and wastewater treatment. Apollo Biolife has developed bio-based surfactants that are environment friendly and less toxic than conventional synthetic surfactants. Apollo biolife make its biosurfactant using simple fermentation technology. Currently, Apollo biolife has successfully produced rhamnolipids and surfactin biosurfactants, further making it commercially available and economical for the first time in India. Research and development section, Apollo Biolife is also currently working on other well known biosurfactants like Sophorolipids Iturin, Fengycin, Lichenysin and Bacillomycin. Products with biosurfactant provide good emulsification, wetting, detergency, and foaming properties, along with very low toxicity. They are readily biodegradable and leave no harmful or persistent degradation products. Their superior qualities make them suitable for many diverse applications. Rhamnolipids is a well studied glycolipids type biosurfactant. Apollo Biolife produces this biosurfactant commercially in controlled, aerobic fermentations using high yielding strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Efficient downstream processing makes it suitable for pharmaceutical and cosmeceuticals applications. Rhamnolipids are also suitable for environmental remediation of hydrocarbons, heavy metals and pesticides in soil and water. Surfactin is a lipopeptide type biosurfactant with renowned antimicrobial activity. Apollo Biolife produces this biosurfactant for commercial and research purpose in aerobic fermentations using high yielding strains of Bacillus subtilis. 8 P a g e
