1 food & beverage / industrial filtration Cross-flow filtration for laboratory, pilot, and industrial process applications lower binding and higher yields less fouling and longer service life faster flow rates and better economics easy scale-up / faster to market WaterSep s antifouling hollow fiber membranes offer high capacity and consistent batch-to-batch performance for clarification, concentration, and purification processes. WaterSep s proprietary membrane composition and cartridge design minimize foulant buildup during fractionation, concentration and clarification in processes such as: dairy products processing beer and wine production fruit juice production vinegar manufacturing gelatin manufacturing mineral water filtration water treatment processes WaterSep s HF filters ensure batch-tobatch consistency and offer extended service life A major concern in food and beverage cross-flow filtration applications is the reduction in filtration capacity during continuous operations or in batch-to-batch processing, due to membrane fouling. WaterSep s anti-fouling hollow fiber membranes prevent this decline in capacity by minimizing irreversible foulant build-up on the membrane during concentration and clarification applications. The result is a more consistent batch-to-batch performance and a longer service life. WaterSep s hollow fiber cartridges are far less susceptible to particle loaded process streams than traditional cassettes, plate and frame filters and spiral-wound cartridges. These membrane formats rely on retentate screens that present a significant risk for particle entrapment. This hang-up phenomenon creates dead spots behind the screens and causes blockage of the channels which not only make it difficult to recover or separate the particles, but also make cleaning and sanitizing less effective, drastically shortening the service life of these screen-based formats. WaterSep antifouling membranes provide an advantage in cleaning during membrane recovery leading to: reduced product loss less system downtime longer service life reduced cross-contamination Hollow fibers are a very cost effective format for clarification, concentration, and industrial water treatment processes perfect for manufacturers and municipalities alike. 2 And the selection that helps you make the right choice too. The WaterSep product offering is based on 3 fluid path lengths that are consistent throughout the entire product line. This enables easy and reliable scale-up and scale-down of you process, by choosing between three different hollow fiber cartridge diameters: 1/2 (13mm), 1.3 (33mm), and 3.5 (89mm). Membrane cut-offs are available in: 10K-750K MWCO and 0.1 & 0.2 µm. explorer The Explorer series is recommended for membrane screening and laboratory volumes up to 15L. Figure 1. WaterSep s void free structure provides a mechanically strong, more robust membrane with extended service life and reduced cost of ownership. investigator The Investigator series is ideal for process development and pilot applications with 10L - 100L process streams. beviproducer The BeviProcuder series is our large scale high capacity hollow fiber cartridges for food and beverage process batches up to several thousand liters. separator Separator products are for the concentration and clarification of industrial products and waste recovery processes. The higher membrane flux (flow rate/unit surface area) and optimized hollow fiber packing density in our cartridges ensures larger process capacity and more economical systems with smaller footprint. Figure 2. Many traditionally manufactured membranes feature a finger-void construction, as shown here, which can lead to compromises in the strength of the membrane. Easy Scale-up WaterSep filters provide a straight-forward scale-up process, going from laboratory volumes to pilot-scale to full manufacturing without a change in materials, fluid-path length, or performance characteristics (See Figure 3). Figure 3. Scale-up made simple with a full spectrum of filters designed to take you from benchtop to production with no change in materials or construction parameters.

3 When your results need to be right, WaterSep consistently delivers... the right material Our proprietary membranes are created from a speciallydesigned PES material carefully modified to minimize the kind of incremental fouling that plagues traditionally designed membranes. Unmodified membranes have been known to foul in the presence of starches, oils, lipids, and other sticky substances. This leads to low flow rates and shorter service life. In an attempt to overcome these problems, many vendors suggest increasing the membrane area. The drawback of this approach becomes a need for larger systems and consequently higher processing costs. WaterSep membranes resist fouling leading to smaller, more cost effective processing. The figure below shows the WaterSep antifouling PES membrane s resistance to flow decay for a highly fouling oily water process stream. The antifouling properties of the membrane make it ideal for processing challenging fluid streams, including oily water lipids and grease which can be present in both food and beverage and waste water process streams. the right performance WaterSep membranes have a unique void-free structure, which is significantly stronger than competitive fingervoid membranes. (See Figs. 1 and 2) This structure results in a stronger cartridge with a longer surface life and significantly lower risk for fiber breakage and product loss. The membrane has a very high process permeability, resulting in higher process capacity and lower cost of ownership. the right format Our HF filters accommodate particle-loaded process streams with significant improvement over traditional screen and open channel cassettes, plate-and-frame systems, and spiral-wound cartridges. Rather than relying on retentate screens that risk particle entrapment, WaterSep cartridges avoid dead spots altogether with an open flow path. This construction also makes cleaning and sanitizing easier and more effective. Figure shows permeate flow rate vs. permeate volumetric throughput for an oily water process treatment. After an initial flow decay, the permeate flow rate is constant over time.
