6 Important Information Implementation Date January 2008 Discretionary for a LIMITED Time Must Obtain a User Name & Password (through an Online Application Process) Documents Must be Saved and Filed in a pdf Format SECURE Online Credit Card Payment is Preferred In-Office Payment of Filing Fees Attorneys will be Able to Access ALL of their Cases Unrepresented Parties will be Able to Access their Case Only Remote Access of pleadings by non-parties is being considered The Court will Issue Notices & Orders Electronically Pleadings (other than original process), Notices, and Orders will be Served Electronically An Electronic Filing Fee will be Charged 5/16/07 6

7 Court Rules Pennsylvania Rule of Civil Procedure No Proposed Amendments have been published in the Pennsylvania Bulletin for Comment Philadelphia Local Rule No. * Will be amended to include Civil Electronic Filing provisions after the amendment of Pa.R.C.P. No /16/07 7

Legal Paper : a pleading or other paper filed in an action... See Pa.R.C.P. No (a) The Filing Party Must Maintain a Signed Hard Copy of the Filed Document See Pa.R.C.P. No (b)(2). 5/16/07 8

9 Court Rules: Acknowledgment of Receipt of Electronically Filed Pleading The Prothonotary will provide through the EFS an Acknowledgment identifying the date & time the electronic filing was received The Prothonotary may reject the pleading/legal paper if it does not comply with rules of court consistent with current rules & case law The Prothonotary will provide through the EFS an Acknowledgment identifying the date & time the electronic filing was deemed filed 5/16/07 9

10 Court Rules: Service of Pleadings Original Process Must Be Served By The Filing Party As Required By Current Rules Subsequent Pleadings Will Be Served (Free Of Charge) Through The Electronic Filing System (EFS) On All Unrepresented Parties And Counsel Of Record Who Have Received A User Name And Password To Access The EFS As Provided In Pa.R.C.P.
