2 ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The department of Bio-Engineering was established in 2002 with financial support from the Department of Agriculture, Government of Jharkhand, with objectives like providing education and training facilities, carrying out application oriented research, developing in-house technologies and promoting consultancy services in various areas of Bio-Engineering. The vision and mission of the Department are- VISION- The Department of Bio-Engineering has a vision to impart international standard quality education in the field of Bio-science and Bio- Engineering. MISSION- 1. To create state-of-art infrastructure for Research and Training in Biotechnology and Bio-Engineering. 2. To provide globally acceptable technical education in Bio-science, Bio-technology, Bio-Engineering. 3. To nurture graduates for innovation and creativity in the field of Bioscience, Bio-technology, and Bio-Engineering having ethical and social concern. 4. To promote collaboration with Academia, Industries and Research organization at National and International level. 5. To contribute to socio-economic development through education and bio-entrepreneurship. 2

The new state-of-the-art Instrumentation facilities include: GC Mass Spectrophotometer, Real time PCR, FPLC, HPLC, UPLC-QTOF, UPLC- MS/MS, Spray dryer, Rotary evaporator, Ultra water Purification system, Typhoon Laser imager, Lypholizer, Thermal cyclers, Gene pulser, Microplate reader, 2D electrophoresis system, SCF extraction system, Spectrophotometers, Fluorimeters, Modern microscope with digital imaging system, Stereo microscope with colony counter, Fluorescence microscope, Lab and pilot scale Bioreactors. 4

6 EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES The program promotes extra-curricular activities in a plethora of domains.students have shown active participation in many regional and national platforms and have returned with numerous awards. Following is a glimpse of the involvement shown by the students: 1.Two teams of two students participated in student research convention "ANVESHAN" organised by Association of Indian Universities,New Delhi and participated in National level after securing 1'st position at Zonal level in the field of Biofuels and therapeutic switching. 2. A team of five students was part of the 20 teams shortlisted for business plan workshop and final presentation at NCR for the Bio-entrepreneurship competition BEST 2016(Biotechnology entrepreneurship student teams) organised by ABLE (Association of Biotechnology led Enterprise) and Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, GOI. 3. Student of our department Presented a paper on Computational Study and Characterization of Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles at International Conference on Recent Research in Biomedical Engineering, Cancer Biology, Stem Cells, Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. The paper was published in International Journal of Basic and Applied Biology. 4.Students got selected for the internship "MIND OVER MATTER" organised by TATA Steel. 5. Student got selected for the internship at CCMB (Centre for cellular and molecular biology). 6
