2 The National Conference of Exectives of The Arc (NCE) is a dynamic peer membership organization of Exective Directors and Management staff. NCE creates opportnities for exchanging ideas, providing training essential in professional development, and offering spport and mentoring for sccessfl leadership. Members work collaboratively to better serve their organizations and their constitents. thearc.org/nce Hello Friends! As winds to a close, I wanted to take this opportnity to reflect on The National Conference of Exectives of The Arc s achievements over the corse of With more than 1100 members, NCE is committed to creating an environment of inclsion, collaboration, and learning throghot The Arc s chapter network. Here are a few of the achievements yo will learn more abot in this annal report: Or Smmer Leadership Institte contines to grow and excel at bringing together experts in the disability, government, non-profit, corporate, and edcational sectors to interact with s and discss the crrent and ftre isses facing or chapters and those we serve. The Professional Development Seminar held before The Arc s National Convention has qickly bilt a reptation of offering qality programming that focses specifically on the needs of chapters. The NCE Silent Action has become one of the best ways to spport NCE by raising money to provide scholarships for first time attendees to the Smmer Leadership Institte and the Professional Development Seminar. NCE Scholarships in 2015 and provided more than 30 scholarships to chapter leaders to attend SLI and PDS. NCE is The Arc, and the work of The Arc is embedded in all we do. In 2017, a new NCE Steering Committee will be empaneled to lead and gide or efforts over the next two years. As the otgoing Chair of the NCE Steering Committee, it has been an honor and my pleasre to get to know so many of my peers and colleages. Thank yo to or crrent NCE Steering Committee, National Board Members and National Staff at The Arc. I want to give a special shot-ot to Carrie Hobbs Giden (Tenn.) and Karen Shoemaker (PA), or 1st and 2nd Vice Chairs. They both did an incredible job planning and organizing or sccessfl Smmer Leadership Institte and the fall Professional Development Seminar. Yor engagement and involvement has helped NCE grow into a vital leadership development arm of The Arc, along with providing incredible networking opportnities! There is strength in nmbers and The Arc and NCE need yor participation if we are to have more inflence, a loder voice, and powerfl advocacy. We encorage yo and yor staff to get more involved in NCE and we hope yo enjoy learning more abot who we are and the impact we can have together. Tim Hornbecker Throghot the past two years, NCE has worked hard to recognize the niqe professional development needs of or chapter staff. The Arc Connection was initially developed to help chapters onboard their new staff, and now contains information abot The Arc and the disability commnity that all can find vale in. The Special Interest Grops have bilt commnities among chapter staff who are engaged in similar work across the contry. Chair, NCE Steering Committee

3 3 NCE Steering Committee Bilding engagement and commnity among chapters of The Arc remains the centerpiece of the work of NCE. The members of the 2014 Steering Committee dedicated over 800 hors collectively in to strengthening or chapters and the services we provide to people with intellectal and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families. Meeting monthly, inclding three face-to-face meetings at the annal Disability Policy Seminar, Smmer Leadership Institte, and Professional Development Seminar, the Steering Committee played a significant role overseeing the implementation of The Arc Connection and Special Interest Grops, planning the programs for the Smmer Leadership Institte and the Professional Development Seminar, managing the NCE scholarship program and the NCE Awards program, and implementing the NCE Silent Action. Attendance at the events for the past two years has contined to grow, as more new chapters get involved in these activities. The Steering Committee has also held think tanks on relevant topics in the I/DD field, especially those that impact The Arc. The think tanks have allowed for the Steering Committee to delve deeply into these topics and inform the thinking of The Arc. 4 5 Steering Committee Task Grops NCE is able to provide qality programming at their events and increase networking and engagement for greater leadership development de to Chapter Leaders stepping p and sharing their time and energy. NCE Task Grops were formed in late 2015 to ensre activities had the spport needed to be implemented sccessflly, and also to engage NCE membership in the work of the organization. Thank yo, everyone! Event Planning Task Grop The Events Planning Task Grop is responsible for developing the content for the annal Smmer Leadership Institte and the Professional Development Seminar. Scholarship Task Grop The Scholarship Task Grop solicits nominations and selects recipients for scholarships for Chapter Execs to attend Smmer Leadership Institte and the Professional Development Seminar. Recritment and Engagement Task Grop The Recritment and Engagement Task Grop develops and implements initiatives to bring new members into NCE, increase attendance at NCE Events, and raise awareness of the many resorces available to chapter staff. In early, the Regional Representatives condcted interviews with several chapter leaders to assess how NCE was perceived and determine additional actions to increase engagement. Ten chapters shared their thoghts and let s know what we need to do to let members know the benefits of memberships and find ways to keep them engaged year rond, not jst at events! Silent Action Task Grop The Silent Action Task Grop manages the marketing of silent action, the collection of items, and provides hands on assistance dring the event. NCE Awards Task Grop The NCE Awards Task Grop solicits nominations for awards and chooses the recipients. Saying Goodbye After long, illstrios careers at The Arc, we say goodbye to 2 phenomenal Exectives. Kate Rollason, Exective Director, The Arc of Central Chesapeake, MD retired in September and George Sess, Chief Exective Officer, The Arc Delaware Conty, NY retired in Janary. We thank them for their dedication to NCE and The Arc and wish them the best in the next chapter of their lives. NCE Membership The Arc s NCE Gold Pass has allowed me to provide comprehensive professional development for all 173 members of my staff for only $500. Chris Stewart, President/CEO, The Arc of Jefferson Conty, AL There are two levels of membership in NCE: complimentary membership for all chapter exective directors of The Arc and a paid membership for additional staff to join NCE. Otreach efforts by the NCE Steering Committee and The Arc allowed s to maintain or crrent level of paid members at 440 in, bringing or total NCE membership to 1,101. In 2015, 61 chapters had paid membership in NCE; in, 64 chapters have paid membership. Chart A: Percent type of membership by year Gold Silver Bronze 2015 Individal Go For The Gold Go For The Gold! In 2015, the Go for the Gold campaign was lanched with a goal to expand the benefits of NCE membership to all chapter staff across The Arc network. 5 Events Smmer Leadership Institte The NCE Smmer Leadership Institte broght the theme Commnity For All Or Promise, Or Challenge to life. Approximately 150 chapter staff, board members and professionals in the disability commnity came to Palm Springs, CA to discss inclsion in or work, particlarly throgh the lens of person-centeredness. The program consisted of 20 breakot sessions and for plenary sessions. As with past SLIs, the region where SLI was held sent the most attendees. 74 chapters attended 14 state chapters % speakers from the private sector, chapters, government, edcational instittions, fondations, I/DD organizations, national office staff Regional Representation by Year Region % - 34% Region % - 12% Region % - 9% Region % - 10% Overall Qality Recommend SLI Attend Next SLI of attendees were CEOs/Exective Directors Region % - 11% Region % - 24% % 68% 67% 2015 Providence Palm Springs 93% 91% 55% Testimonials I always learn. I always meet new people. I always feel it s worthwhile. Once again, I left SLI with a renewed sense of prpose, renewed energy to contine advocating for people with disabilities and their families, renewed energy to create new opportnities for them and thankfl that I am a part of an extremely strong advocacy and policy organization. Another energizing SLI fll of great speakers covering a wide range of topics, with great networking opportnities in beatifl srrondings! Coldn t have asked for more! Professional Development Seminar Anchored by Disney s Approach to Leadership Excellence, the Professional Development Program broght chapter leaders to Orlando, FL to examine isses encompassing leadership, organizational effectiveness, and the competencies needed to sccessflly meet the needs of a diverse I/DD commnity in the 21st centry. Participants shared best practices, engaged in sbstantive discssion, and networked with leaders at the forefront of disability isses. The last time NCE partnered with the Disney Institte in 2013, 83 chapter staff attended. This year, we had over 150 in attendance. We mst be doing something right! In early, the NCE Steering Committee felt they wanted the fall seminar to be more representative of what actally happens as opposed to when it actally happens. After a great deal of dialoge, The Professional Development Seminar (affectionately known as PDS) was born. 8

6 9 NCE Awards Behind each chapter in The Arc s national network, there is a passionate and hardworking leader. Each year, we recognize these chapter role models who go above and beyond to flfill the mission, core vales, and position statements of The Arc. The NCE Awards honor the professional excellence and achievement of these NCE members and those otside the membership who make significant contribtions to strengthen the I/DD commnity. Three new awards were added in : Diversity and Cltral Competence, Program Innovation, and Exemplary Mentor. Congratlations to the inagral recipients! It was difficlt to predict jst how valable my first time attendance at the NCE SLI wold be. The speakers, breakot sessions, and networking all contribted to bilding my confidence as a leader, advocate, and co-worker. I will absoltely attend SLI next year! I thoght it was so valable. I ve been trying to recrit other chapter directors from my state. Silent Action: Bigger! Better! More! The Bigger! Better! More! Campaign lanched in March with a goal to raise $10,000. The Silent Action featred over 90 items ranging from paintings, books, msic, and gift baskets from New Orleans, to an Indy 500 event package and mch, mch more. The Silent Action raised $8,145, an 11% increase from NCE is committed to bringing as many leaders to SLI and PDS as they can and reaching that $10,000 goal in 2017! Scholarships The NCE 2015 Silent Action fnded scholarships for the SLI and Professional Development. Scholarships for SLI covered the registration fee and a ticket to an evening event at the scenic and tasty Matchbox restarant a $ vale. 7 11 Leadership & Professional Development The core of NCE is leadership and professional development. Providing opportnities for chapter staff members to bild skills, enhance their knowledge, engage with peers, and become immersed in The Arc and its mission drives the work we do. In addition to or events, several initiatives are available to meet the learning needs of NCE membership and chapter staff across The Arc network. The Arc Connection is an online training portal that is niqely designed to cater to the needs of or growing professional staff. Conceived in 2015 as an onboarding tool for chapter staff new to The Arc, The Arc Connection provides 44 webinars, videos, and written materials that spotlight isses intrinsic to or commnity. Experts from The Arc Chapter Network have recorded webinars and more are coming in Welcome to The Arc with Peter Berns, CEO, The Arc is or most watched video with over 164 views. Basic sessions provide a snapshot of working in different areas of The Arc and Premim sessions provide a deep dive into policies and laws that impact or work. NCE is committed to helping chapter staff see the vale of the resorces in The Arc and how they can strengthen employee engagement in their work. Special Interest Grops are online discssion forms that allow chapter staff to connect to one another and share best practices and soltions to governance, management, and programmatic isses. Lanched in 2015, there are 17 grops, facilitated by over 17 chapter leaders. Over 200 chapter staff are members. We look forward to contining to grow Special Interest Grops and bilding engagement among chapter staff arond the contry. 8 13 Standards for Excellence The Arc offers the Standards for Excellence program to affiliated state and local chapters throgh collaboration with the national Standards for Excellence Institte. Chapters of The Arc have access to all of the Standards for Excellence materials, inclding edcational resorces, the codebook, and disconted rates for accreditation. As of 12/1/, 10 chapters are accredited by the national Standards for Excellence Institte. The Standards for Excellence Institte has developed a collection of 27 Edcational Resorce Packets intended to assist individal organizations to implement specific standards. These materials are available to all chapters of The Arc free of charge. Additional NCE Benefits The NCE Newsletter The NCE Newsletter is a monthly e-newsletter sent to all NCE members. Arriving on or arond the first Friday of the month, the newsletter provides pdates on NCE activities, spotlights available resorces, and articles on new and exciting events happening in The Arc chapter network. NTEN Benefits Tools and Strategies Free Ask-the-Expert sessions Free Rond Table Sessions Free Reports and Benchmark Stdies Disconted Events and Trainings, both online and off-line Access to a network of peers and experts tackling nonprofit technology isses and sharing resorces Staying p-to-date on the latest strategies and tools that will help yo do yor job better, and help yor organization achieve its mission! NTEN NCE and The Arc have partnered with NTEN (the Nonprofit Technology Network) to bring yo and the staff of yor chapter NTEN memberships at no cost; p to a $500 vale. NTEN membership benefits will connect or members to each other, provide professional development opportnities, edcate or constitency on isses of technology se in nonprofits, and spearhead grondbreaking research, advocacy, and edcation on technology isses affecting or entire commnity. 9 Looking Ahead to 2017 With a new steering committee coming in Janary 2017, the new year is expected to be one of transition, reflection, and action. There are several key priorities that NCE will be focsing on in 2017: 1. Ongoing Think Tank discssions The think tank discssions have provided The Arc with valable insight into how the chapter network is being impacted by isses that come from a federal, state, or local level, as well as the latest trends in providing services and growing strong chapters. NCE is looking to engaging more chapters in these discssions in 2017 by inviting participation in think tanks held at DPS, SLI, and PDS. 2. Engagement in NCE and its tools and resorces NCE and The Arc will contine looking for opportnities to create and provide tools for the ongoing professional development of or chapter staff at no to limited cost. NCE will look to market these tools and resorces and ensre every chapter has an opportnity to take advantage of them. 3. Developing qality programming at events Ensring we are providing attendees with the latest thinking in the field as it relates to how we develop or programs and how or chapters adapt to change is something we take very seriosly. Identifying the isses that we need to discss and tapping the experts within and otside of or network will contine to be a priority for NCE. 4. Increasing attendance at events There are several key benefits to attending the Smmer Leadership Institte and the Professional Development Seminar. Nmber one is ongoing learning; a close second is networking! Having the opportnity to engage with peers and colleages across the chapter network brings a wealth of information and contacts right to yor fingertips. This type of interaction has proven to be invalable to past attendees. We will look to contine to identify ways to bring more chapters to these events.
