AquaBioTech Group Excellence Through Quality and Innovation

ABTG - Areas of expertise Aquaculture Consulting & Devel t Recirculating Aquaculture Systems Aquarium & Ornamentals Aquatic ecotoxicology Research & Development Nutrition & Vetriceutical testing Fisheries and processing Marine Surveying & GIS Market Research & Intelligence Biosecurity & Risk Assessments

ABTG - Recent R&D/EU projects Innovation at the heart of everything we do.. ABT Innovia - Contracted research to develop New fish feeds and feed additives (functional feeds), Aquatic vaccines and other vetriceutical products New breeding lines that the selectively bred for disease resistance TAPAS new methods for modelling environmental interactions of marine cage aquaculture and mitigate negative impacts VicInAqua development of a robust, easy to use hatchery system using treated waste water. BYEFOULING testing new, environmental friendly anti-fouling materials for aquaculture and shipping industries. (Finalized in Nov-17) SOCLIMPACT Mitigate the climate change impacts on the aquaculture and fishery industry of small islands. ENVIGUARD autonomous monitoring unit to measure specific environmental parameters around marine aquaculture sites 3

EnviGuard - Goals Development of a biosensor technology for environmental monitoring and disease prevention in aquaculture ensuring food safety highly specific in situ measurements man-made chemical contaminants and biohazards Toxic microalgae Viruses and Bacteria Biotoxins and PCBs Early warning system in aquaculture, environmental monitoring system and marine research 17-Apr-18 4

EnviGuard - Prototype Cost-efficient Clear marketing advantage European analytical and research equipment industry Saves, displays and sends real time data by mobile data/internet The internet platform EnviGuard.NET Single portable device 3 different sensor modules real-time reading for one week without maintenance Biosensors developed go far beyond the current state-of-the art reliability and simplicity in operation combine innovations in nanotechnology/molecular science European research and highly innovative SMEs in the forefront of quickly developing markets. 17-Apr-18 5

EnviGuard Algae sensor module Algae module is able to detect and quantify in situ with a single sample the following relevant toxic algae in European waters: Alexandrium sp. Protoceratium reticulatum, Dinophysis sp. Source: ral.html Before to entry the module the water is subject to a ultrasonic process that breaks the cells and release the RNA-particles of the samples. The semi-automated nucleic acid biosensor will analyse the RNAs to get the harmful algae s species and cell numbers. 17-Apr-18 6

EnviGuard Chemical sensor module Chemical module is able to detect and quantify in situ with a single sample the following emerging pollutants in the marine environment: toxins (Okadaic acid) manmade pollutants (PCB126 and PCB169) Simultaneous multianalyte Source: Before to entry the module the water is subject to a ultrasonic process that breaks the cells and release the toxins of the samples. The photonic nanostructured surface is used as transducer for the monoclonal antibodies (selective Source: bioreceptors). 17-Apr-18 7

EnviGuard Pathogen sensor module Pathogen module is able to detect and quantify in situ with a single sample the following emerging pollutants in the marine environment: Betanodavirus (VNN) Escherichia coli The working principle of the pathogen detection unit is based on target specific catching molecules (called aptamers) immobilized within a microfluidic chip. These aptamers are covalently labelled with a florescent dye. The microfluidic chamber, and hence the attached aptamers, are illuminated by a laser. With this procedure, qualitative and quantitative signals can be generated, which will give clear signals to the end-users. 17-Apr-18 8

EU project - EnviGuard The AquaBioTech Group s tasks within the ENVIGUARD project included: Provision of market survey and research information regarding the aquaculture sector Co-ordination of the testing, optimization and evaluation of the modular system Dissemination of project results and participation in networking actions The connection of the aquaculture industry and the project objectives Support on the development of the special web based platform 17-Apr-18 9
