1 Centerity Business Services Management & IT Analytics Platform Sales & Demonstration Guide: Best Practices in Performance Monitoring for Big Data Environments (SAP HANA, Hadoop, Enterprise Applications) V.04.14

2 OVERVIEW Centerity Systems is the most advanced unified BSM and IT Monitoring Analytics Platform on the market today. By adding Centerity to any Big Data project, Centerity can deliver value for each of the principal Use Cases set forth below. This Sales & Demonstration Guide describes those top 5 Use Cases, how these are achieved through Centerity Monitor and how each positively contributes to the overall sales cycle and customer success. USE CASE # 1 FACILITATING DEPLOYMENT/INSTALLATION Synopsis: Controlled Big Data Rollouts Real-time Service Level Views Consolidated Technology Layer Views Dependency Mapping Use Case Overview: Understanding what your target service levels should be per technology layer and per business process is key to understanding if your environment is ready for your Big Data deployment. Centerity can help you execute a Controlled Rollout of your Big Data Environment by helping you profile your entire supporting environment end-to-end upfront (for example: compute, storage, OS, networking, applications) by technology layer and by business process (across technology layers) via Centerity s Business Service Management (BSM) capabilities. This profile will include tracking performance against appropriate service levels as well as smart alerting triggered by static and dynamic thresholds. Also, defining and mapping dependencies is essential to streamline execution of any work plan. Via our Executive Dashboards and BSM views, Centerity can give users the tools, visibility and confidence they need for any new or expanded Controlled Rollouts. 5 USE CASE # 2 REDUCING OPERATIONAL COMPLEXITY Synopsis: Single Pane of Glass Live Visual Layouts Topology Mapping Use Case Overview: Reducing operational complexity is key to the successful and efficient operation of any Big Data Environment. Having to jump from one console to another to gather performance metrics and manually correlate states to do impact and trend analysis is not practical or effective where automated, proactive intelligence is needed. What is needed is a single-pane-of-glass across the entire Big Data Environment that can serve as a Business Intelligence Layer across the all technical and functional domains. This Business Intelligence Layer will normalize and organize performance metrics into technology layers and furthermore group these technologies into business process groups. These logical groups are called Business Service Management (BSM) process views. Customized Live Visual Layouts can be created by importing any image (for example: geographical maps, data center layouts, architectural schematics, technology stacks/racks) and overlaying status icons via Centerity s GUI. All these icons are clickable and drillable. These Live Visual Layouts represent how users want to view their environment and consume information. These layouts are intuitive ways of consuming information, not just because these are images, but because these are logical representations of the way individual users actually perform their functions. 7 USE CASE # 3 REDUCING MEAN-TIME-TO-RESTORE (MTTR) Synopsis: Dynamic Threshold Alerting Automated Remediation Actions Outage Graphics Use Case Overview: The number one driver of Customer Satisfaction and increasing Net Promoter Scores is reduced downtime. In order to do this, IT departments must avoid downtime and restore service quickly. First, what is need here are smart static and dynamic thresholds that can provide proactive and automated actions before warnings become critical. While some circumstances can be anticipated with static thresholds, dynamic thresholds need to be learned by observing what is normal for a given hour of the day or day of the week. Second, once Topology and Dependency Maps are established, outrage can be resolved quickly as alerts and graphical diagrams can pinpoint higher order problems that are causing a cascade of events. Resolving the higher order problem first is likely to resolve the lower order ones in the most expedient way. Third, being able to see an entire business service view on a single console and show all the services levels from individual metrics to technology layers will highlight which component is causing a degradation of service and why. Seeing everything from a single console provides the entire organization with a single view of the truth upon which efficient and coordinated actions can be taken. 8 USE CASE # 4 REDUCING OPEX Synopsis: Historical Graphs Utilization Reports Use Case Overview: Organizations don t have time to manage multiple tools that each cover a single technology silo. First, these single siloed tools are expensive to deploy, maintain and require specialists for each technology layer. Second, as these siloed tools don t share information, these can t do the crosscorrelation necessary to provide predictive analytics on impact and trends. Attempting to monitor high-value applications with siloed tools is expensive and ultimately ineffective. What is necessary is a unified platform that can cover the entire environment end-to-end. This unified platform will have a common GUI to all features and a common operational approach. This makes the monitoring platform easy to use and maintain requiring fewer specialized resources while providing the proactive, operational analytics to be more effective. Centerity is such a platform with a vast selection of out of the box profiles and templates as well as discovery options that make the platform extensible and efficient to operate. Furthermore, as Centerity records performance over time, Usage Summary Reports can provide information on historic performance against service levels highlighting which technologies are causing the greatest degradation of service and why focusing management s attention on these. This unified approach can contribute substantially to reducing OPEX. Technical Overview: Product Screen 9: Historical Graphs

10 USE CASE # 5 CREATING TRANSPARENCY & A COMMON PURPOSE Synopsis: A Single Truth The Power of Sharing Information & Goals Use Case Overview: Many organizations are challenged due to technical specialization within its departments. This leads to siloed goals aligned only with the technology layer of immediate concern. To make organizations more service and application centric, IT needs to share information about organizational goals and service level status. By sharing information across technical and functional domains, people have better insights into performance, availability and continuity. This inspires employees to think about services and business value and less about their individual domains in isolation. Centerity can be that single point of truth for the entire organization providing one view of the entire stack so everyone is working from the same baseline and towards common goals. Executive Dashboards and BSM views highlight organizational goals and deliverables that transcend individual technologies and priorities.
